Just watching Citeh v Bournmouth and replays show clearly that David Silva is fouled in the box. VAR checked it and said no penalty. Just like the climb on Egan yesterday it seems that the video refs are going out of their way to stay out of it. In which case we might as well just call it offside checks because that is all they seem to want to commit to. Sure there are many other examples spotted by others. It would seem that after all the moaning by the likes of Klopp last year they have gone too far the other way now.

Var was brought in to get big decisions right! No one can tell me the jump on Egans back is not a big decision a goal is scored from it.
Accepted we don't want the game stopping constantly but situations where goals are scored are important , yep we don't want to see offside goals but that situation was a game changing event just like offside goals .At least the var ref should have queried it after the goal cus the ref missed it.

I've noticed over the last few seasons that citeh really don't seem to be like by officialdom

I remember the year they won the league when Rodgers was in charge at Liverpool and they went through a phase during the crucial stage of the season when fixtures are piling up of having a player sent off nearly every week for pretty innocuous infringements
Since then I've kept an eye on their games and how they're refereed and they don't half seem to get the shit end of the stick compared to the big clubs like man yoo and especially Liverpool
So far this season they've been denied three goals and yet Liverpools bar seems to be turned off

Also notice the reaction in the media to man yoos non penalty's yesterday and company's two footed challenge on salah last season compared to citehs three denied goals in three games
It's like night and day and tells you all you need to know about the closed shop that is English football
I for one thought that var might even these things up , especially for the lesser teams like us but seem the refs have got together and found a way they can carry on being fan boys of the top teams and get away with it

I’m not sure if there is any sort of conspiracy to favour certain teams. City play fast passing football through the back line so are probably going to get caught marginally offside on a few occasions. I was keen to see VAR introduced but if the video refs are going to be scared to overturn refs decisions when there have been infringements that lead to goals or penalty decisions then what is the point.

This is what’s doing my head in. It’s leading to more inconsistencies not less. It’s just now we have an added layer of inconsistency of use as well as decision. For goodness sake, just check every goal for offside, and use the goal line technology, then give a number of referrals to each captain. Incidents directing leading a goal can be overturned, dives, penalties, red cards etc.

Is it? Oh, I thought it was just ones with a hint of dodginess that were double-checked.

But ... if he hasn't noticed someone climbing over Egan, surely that is a clear mistake?
Obviously not. No defenders appealed by the way

It’s a foul but it’s not a clear howler is it that’s why it wasn’t changed.

There only going to change clear howlers.

We’d all be moaning If every single thing was checked aswell can’t have it both ways

In the same way everybody was marvelling at the finish in that incident, I suspect the officials were impressed with the perfect form of the attacker's push up, arms straight and locked at the top of the movement.

Now VAR is live, I don’t like the clear howler interpretation. It complicates everything. What’s it based on? Amount of contact? Position of the ref? Who decides what is, and isn’t clear and obvious? Surely, if the foul directly to a goal, missing it is a howler? Missing a fine edge in cricket isn’t a howler but still given as our.

If VAR was called up for incidents like the Egan challenge then the game is dead

That’s not the point though. It shouldn’t be continually reviewing everything. It should be used as a referral system. I agree that 100s of incidents can’t go to VAR, but if we had the ability to request a review, a foul would have been given.

I think we are clutching a bit personally.

It might have been a foul but was not a clear one I felt in normal time...if we had that one ruled out going the other way we would all have been livid. Did not see any players appeal.

If the ref is not giving decisions VAR are only overturning them if there is a total howler. The Kane one today could have been a pen but they went with the referees original decision.

No problem with how they are doing it in this aspect. I dont like VAR but to my mind we can maybe talk about the Norwood kick by Fraser or that one yesterday but neither were clear obvious errors.

Sure VAR will 'do' us at some point but so far it's not affected us either way in our three games.

Define “total howler” in a clear way befitting something worthy of being in the regulations.

Football should be a simple game, played at the same principle at every level.

The elite leagues remain the whores of the media companies. They’ve seen the financial success of the tv focus of NFL, tennis etc and want a slice, bugger the fans actually rocking up to pay and watch.

I’m not a fan of VAR because nobody been able to explain why it makes football better as a spectator sport.

A clear and obvious error in real speed. The VAR team are told to watch it in real speed first. If you somethings down and do freeze frames like above for the Egan one you could find potential offences if you look hard enough. I don't recall the players or many fans being in uproar yesterday when they scored. Could it have been a foul? Possibly but I have watched it back and still not totally convinced it's a certain foul. They review every goal and would have told Madley if they saw an obvious offence missed. They felt it wasn't an obvious glaring error. I probably agree as much as been nice to have it chalked off!

Kane one was a definite penalty though.

He was in front of his man who put in a bloody rugby league tackle

All true, but surely the prevailing important factor is whether a decision was correct or not, and whether that decision then lead to a significant incident in the game? “Yeah, it was a foul, but he didn’t two-foot him in the chest, therefore we won’t overturn it” doesn’t sit right with me. The ‘clear and obvious’ rule is only needed because of the vague way its been implemented. If it was just a referral system, clear and obvious wouldn’t be needed.

I'd say all the usual forces come into play but I've just seen the Dean non-award for Spurs v Toon. The underdog benefited from the subservience off the VAR ref to Dean who is supposed to be a "top ref." This is becoming a nonsense all because of human nature.

What’s the difference between a accidental flick on the arm and two hands pushing the defender down to get a better leap , ridiculous.
VAR is a joke

Exactly right. It’s this ‘severity’ of the mistake that’s confusing everything.
