Good morning all, hope everyone doing ok so far today.

I just sent an email to Trevor(Chairman of the SUFC Supporter's Club) about starting a supporters club in the US,mainly in the south as according to the site the North and NE US are covered. But can be a whole US endeavor if need be.

Anyway, I plan on having a blog for this, Facebook group maybe, and something else to help stay connected and plan meetups to watch games and the like.

Not that great at design so if anyone is and feel like it,would appreciate a mockup of a supporters club logo. Also any tips or suggestions much appreciated.

There is already a FB group for Blades in the US. When I was there it seemed a bit pointless, no one ever met up given the distances involved. We often had Blades fans over as tourists when I was in NYC, but never more than 3 or 4 locals.

Search for USA Blades on FB

Several years ago whilst working in NY for a few days I watched Blades v Pigs a pub on 3rd St.....the place was rammed with Blades shirts and just 1 pig shirt.....we won 3-2 and it was one the best football experiences I can remember!
If I remember correctly I think the son of one of our directors who lived in NY ran an unofficial Blades fan club at that time.

Fair enough and I did look up that group on fb just 17 members. Not saying going to be easy by any means as US obviously is enormous but am going to try.

As I said perhaps just go for the South right now be a bit easier to meet up,and also maybe just meet up like once a month or so see how it goes

Nevada Smiths, I was there for that game. Yes, it was absolutely rammed with Blades for some reason.

I lived there for 11 years and generally 3 or 4 was a good turnout. Football Factory on 33rd St by the ESB has been the New York Blades bar of choice for a while now.

Cheers Dkc.....the memory of that game will live forever with me (and my mate who was a Man U fan), it was incredible walking into that derby atmosphere in another country.....thanks for the tip on Football Factory, it’s on the ‘to do list’ for next visit.

Hello Yank,
I’m interested in hearing your story. Are you actually US born and bred and what made you become a Blade?
Have you ever visited Sheffield in the past?

Yes sir 100% American here👍.Yeah I have never really felt any kind of connection with an MLS team and saw how much enjoyment some people I knew got from supporting an English team so I decided to do the same.
Of course Man U and the like are the biggest supported over here but I didn't want to go that route.I happened to find a home Blades shirt in a local thrift store, watched some stuff and read some stuff on the club and just clicked with me that the Blades were my team.

Never been to Sheffield before but hope to as soon as I can. Will be difficult with our first child on the way but will make it happen at some point👍

Bert will be in NYC 5th October, Watford away game.
Is it likely to be shown in that bar?

Yes, I reckon so, as all games are now televised. Thing is you'll be competing with a few other games, so it will probably only be on one TV out of about 50. Smithfield Hall on the West Side will be the same. I'll check with my Blade mate in NYC, if he's planning to watch in a bar I'll message you. A lot of people just watch the games at home these days, but you must subscribe to NBC Gold. 10am KO remember.

I was supposed to be watching the Arsenal game over there till they shifted it to the Monday, can't make it now.

Do they actually sell new Blades shirts in the US stores?

I’m interesting in fan cultures from different countries. Here in England amongst the traditional hotbed areas a football is like family, to some it’s almost like religion, really really serious stuff with very strong feelings. When we lose or are poor I try not to let it bother me but it can spoil my weekend. I sometimes almost go into a temporary mini depression. When we win I feel like I’m walking on air for days, shouldn’t let it effect me so much much...but it does.

Sheffield United history can be divided into eras.
Pre 1st world war: We were one of the top performing clubs in England, always up near the top of the league and challenging for honours.
Between 1st world war and 2nd world war: Constantly in the top division but generally finishing mid table.
After the war: Again mainly a top flight club without challenging to win anything, then from 1976 it’s been a big downturn. We’ve generally been mediocre spending time in the lower divisions with the odd few seasons in the top division but nothing long lasting.

In fact it’s pretty incredible that Sheffield being the 4th largest city in England and the place where football started have 2 big football clubs where both have done very little for over 40 years. It’s as though both football clubs (especially Sheff Utd) are cursed to never experience success.

So SU fans are generally pessimistic and have a latent anger that our club with such an impressive history have been on the slide and done so little in the last 40 years. The last time we won a cup was 1925 and our last cup final was 1936, making us the biggest fan base in England with such a poor post war history of winning nothing.

So we’re not a sexy club to support but that’s what makes us special, our fans do seem to be more passionate than most as we live in hope that our day will come.

Between 1934-39 we were a second division side.

Avoid S6 when you come across as it is very rusty and tends to get very wet, got mistaken by the luftwaffe in ww2 as a royal navy sub base pic below, but navigator in the leading HE111 got lost and bombed the lane instead...useless a*seholes...anyway they got kidney punched by the RAF for this.

Careful what you do with it without updated written permission, as that infringes club trademarks and is likely to attract the attentions of the agencies protecting Premier League rights.

Thanks for the advice. We've not used it for anything, although we did at one point discuss if it would have been cool to get some t-shirts printed for a group trip to Sheffield. Poor idea, then?

Just a couple updates:

My lady got me into contact with a friend of hers who is good at graphic design and when she gets home later will try to come up with a couple of designs for the club and will go from there.

No response yet from the Chairman of the supporter's groups; if not heard anything by the morning will email someone else and see what they have to say about it.

Will have first blog post and site/group page up as soon as possible hopefully by late tonight.

Thanks for the input, I am very passionate and eager to see what I can accomplish to spread enthusiasm for the Blades here in the States.

Must try and find somewhere in Chicago that'll be showing Spurs away in a couple of months, although knowing my luck Sky will move it to when I'm on a plane

I would have thought the policing of that would be limited to anything online (website logos and the like) and anything on sale. I doubt that if you had some t-shirts made up for your own use, didn’t sell them, didn’t have the logo online, that it would be caught within the Premier League’s cease-and-desist wing.
