I know Rooks occasionally pops in here when not elsewhere attempting to placate excitable children so how about this for an idea?

If anyone watched the Villa v. Blackburn match last night, you'll see that an awful lot of the crowd had streamers, like this...

... which added a nice bit of colour to proceedings. Even if they could be mistaken for West Ham colours.

Now I know we're not likely to be facing a make-or-break match which could decide a trip to Wembley any time soon, but it'd be good to have the Lane restored to the fortress of red and white that it once was. Perhaps if we get on the telly at some point (when exactly are we going to be on the BBC?).

I'm not saying that waving about a bit of ribbon on a stick would improve the atmosphere, but anything's gotta be better than those paper clapper things that just make it sound like it's raining.

They'd have been good for Bolton, but it's a bit short notice. I don't think Cole Brothers will have enough red ribbon :D

It was a bit irriating when it kept going infront of the camera though :D

Those paper clapper things are a pain for the ears and in the arse, unless of course you are a child. My daughter thinks they are fantastic, but she's generally well pleased with anything that makes a racket and annoys me. Those Villa streamer things look okay. Wait til the H&S police see them though. "On a stick? You could have somebody's eye out with that."

Can't we just revert back to the early 90's and have hand held flares again?

I've still got a free Villa scarf which they gave everyone from when we played them at the end of the season we went down from the prem. Better than those horrible clapper things.

What about the inflatable blades in the Bassett era - my kids absolutely loved them and they attracted a lot of attention at away games.

I thought we couldn't talk about streams on here?

I'll get me coat....

I think the flares are fantastic - although we have a history of problems when they cease to be hand-held.

I was at Forest away back in 92-93 (when we relegated them). A blades fan was holding a flair, but decided to chuck it burning one of our own fans! What a tit!

I believe because of that, Flairs of any type were banned.

I saw Man U had flairs at Eastlands the other night

They'd have had even more flair if they hadn't sold Ronaldo ;)

Can you remember the game at swinesville, a night match. Deano scored and I think warthurst equalised for the pigs? Red flares were everywhere that night. It looked awesome. That's the best swinesville has ever ever looked.

I don't like them, although they look good as a spectacle they would get on my tits as would people using them.

That game with the flares at the sty was great!

I saw that clip not so long back (being as big a blade as i am, or a bit sad) on the old 92-93 season review, I couldnt really describe how good it looked, flares everywhere in the away end and all the Blades near them were going barmy.

Heres a 2 pictures of Blades with flares;

Yup, that first pic. was me and a couple of mates. Got them on the morning of the match from that boating shop that used to be on London road.
I asked for four flares (£7-odd each.) The bloke asked me
"Are they for yachting? Dinghy-ing? Mountain rescue?"

"Nah, mate. They're for Swillsborough tonight."

Obviously,. I know it's illegal. Always wondered who nicked them and took them into the ground...:D

Can't we just go with good old fashioned scarves?

Look a treat when there's 1000's of the f'kers all being waved in unison and with the added bonus that they don't make any irritating noise means they get my vote!

Streamers - ON STICKS?!

We'd never be allowed - you can't have sticks in a football ground! Or flag poles for that matter.

Although, yeah - much better than cardboard clappers
