Would you start Morrison on Saturday ?

I'm sure he'll be in Wilder's thoughts, he has said a couple of times that he's in good shape, so fit enough you would think.
My only reservation would be when we don't have the ball. Does he have sufficient discipline etc. I'm not saying he does or he doesn't, I just don't know.
Ability wise he is up there with the best in the league I'm sure, so why not?

No, I’d stick with a little more of the familiar.

I think wilder might go with Fleck, Norwood and Lundstram, but I’d be tempted to swap lundstram for Freeman and go a little more creative. My first choice would’ve been duffy but he’s not going to be match fit after the last few weeks

Ravel to be considered for home games or sub later in games. Can’t wait to see him against decent opposition.

Think you may be right there Swiss.

I’ve no problem with it though, but wilder has been quite consistent in the friendlies...

However, wilder does like a red herring or two and might surprise us with hendo in AM...

I think that the starting team will be last years team with Robinson being the only new starter up front with Billy and Didzy playing the Duffy role
Without seeing them in training or knowing anything that’s happening behind the scenes that’s what I’d expect. I wouldn’t be surprised if Billy and McG were replaced at around 65-70 minutes by Freeman and one of the new strikers.

Yes

No time to fuck around playing Championship players just because they did well for us last season. Ravel is better than others in his position, he starts.

Likewise McBurnie and Robinson should start ahead of McGoldrick and Sharp.
Pretty sure last season we (2nd place in the Championship) were a better side than currently 10th placed Ostersund in the Allsvenskan.

Morrison 18/19 - 6 appearances 0 goals 0 assists (Sweden)
17/18 - 12 appearances 1 goal 0 assists (Mexico)

I know he has looked promising is short cameos against lower league opposition but who do you think he deserves to start ahead of?

No chance Morrison will start vs Bournemouth, He may get on the bench. It will either be Fleck, Norwood & Lundstram (maybe K Phillips if we somehow sign him) or Fleck, Norwood & Freeman/McGoldrick if we play with a number 10.

I think two of McBurnie, Robinson and McGoldrick will start up top, but using your rule of "not time to f' around playing championship players" Does this mean Mousset has to start?

Are you on the wind up or do you not see the obvious contradiction in what you have posted? Jesus Christ.

Sharp scored more headers than anyone else in the Championship last season. He's 5'9.

His positioning and attacking instinct got those goals, not his height or speed.

He can score goals in the Premier League.
Billy has 'never' relied on pace throughout his entire career. what he does is that he is 'johnny on the spot'.. you can't teach that it is instinctive

My point exactly. People still say he "hasn't got the legs anymore" etc. - irrelevant to the type of player he is in my opinion.

I think we should be playing attacking football against the weaker clubs in the division, and so I would start with Freeman or Morrison in the Duffy role against Bournmouth. Fuck playing a defensive team away from home like we did under Warnock, that's why we went down in 2012.

I would be starting with Lundstram against the top 8, not against someone we hope to beat.

exactly. he 'never' had the legs. the last striker to suffer this ignomy was a guy called Kev Phillips and we all know what happened next ;)

I clearly meant Championship quality players. Not players from the Championship or the whole team would have to go.

Basham, Lundstram, Baldock clearly arent premier level and will be a liability. Lundstram should not be starting.

Egan, JOC, Stevens for example are good premier level. Like, could easily sign for a Southampton or West Ham or Burnley.

Fleck, Norwood are to lesser degree premier level.

Robinson and McBurnie are better and more likely to succeed in the premier than Sharp (Who is Chsmpionship level, but will be a good sub) and McGoldrick (Who could step up to be fair)

But Basham, Lundstram and Baldock will be exposed.

I look forward to seeing your long and succesful career in management. Fascinating stuff. Love the facts.

Also, any chance you could let Wilder know so he can save himself a headache with the team selection?

Lundstram will be a liability. Morrison was at a low team because of his attitude, not lack of skill or talent.

Moose, no. He's not match fit. But later, my attack lineup would be Moose, Robinson and Morrison in AM position. That pace would cause nightmares.

Cheers, glad you approve. I'll send him a Tweet.

Sarcasm aside. Do you honestly think Lundstram, Basham and Baldock are cut out for the Premiership ?

Morrison has been at several poor clubs because he hasn't produced on the pitch and behaved like a nob off it. No doubt the guy has/had great ability. The question is will he be able to keep his head down and put it to use this year or like pretty much every year will he throw the opportunity away.

Time will tell I guess, hopefully he is a great success this year but IMO he is currently behind every senior midfielder we have. If he proves himself in training, appearances in the cups and sub appearances in the league then he will get his start.

Think you are missing my point, you so confidently think Ravel, Robinson and Mcburnie are “cut out” yet dismiss the lads who finished 2nd in the championship, including statistically and historically the most clinical striker in our squad (Thats captain Billy Sharp BTW)

Its all a unknown quantity at this point and im not foolish enough to say player X is better than player Y. I just laugh at people who can so confidently say player X is not “cut out” for the premer league.

Stevens, who you say is apparently “cut out” for it was getting pelters not so long ago from sections of the south stand. Now he is one of first names on the team sheet.

Players change, adapt and grow. Wilder and Knill who see them most days in training, up close and personal, will pick the best 11 for the opposition.

People talk about loyality in football, if I was a player I would be a greedy cunt as well. Fans are worse than players.

Good call, well thought out. I still think Wilder will keep Billy back for the first home game. :)

McBurnie I'm not sure about. The other two I am. But it's usually pretty easy to see who can make the step up and who can't. It's a difficult league and we can't risk playing Lundstram and a few others just because of loyalty.

No place for loyalty in football. I dont blame players for moving on, or managers for getting rid. Look at Matt Le Tiss, one of his generations most gifted players, but he's a footnote because he stayed at Saints.

Without knowing Wilders plan for seamlessly integrating 40m worth of talent, I would expect a little caution. The first away game of the season against a manager he admires, and wishes to emulate?

I expect those who have performed well in training to start, with one eye on the option to step up with subs, if we are winning or losing. = Morrison on the bench.

Delighted to see many fans putting McGoldrick in the starting line up. Just like Morrison, he was a trialist this time last year.

If all you took away from my reply was my last comment about loyalty, we should draw a line under it.

You started with contradictions, then went onto predictions and finally finished with the statement “its pretty easy to see who can make the step up”

Id argue that it is a lot more complicated than that.

Anyway, Enjoy the season. UTB.

You too. Even if we go down, will still be an exciting year.

Beware "New Member" posts!! Anyone who suggests ripping the team apart at the seams in order to put most of our new signings in is very likely hell-bent on destroying the dressing-room from the start. Don't trust 'em!!!

What is clear and I think we can all agree is.......we have so many options up front and in attacking midfield positions.
Even the options on the subs bench will be very strong.
Will be interesting to see his early starting line ups.....it could be anything.

Are you Paul Mitchell, letting off some steam because CWAK knocked back your advice on McBurnie?

i wouldnt start him and im pretty sure he wont start....needs to be slowly integrated into the team, give him a few cameos of the bench and if he does well then you give him a start.

I might be in a minority of one where many of the topics currently being discussed on the forum are concerned, but whatever term is used to describe my questioning, it doesn't harm to apply a little curiosity to the status quo.

As for Morrison's inclusion in game one, the only person capable of making that decision is Chris Wilder. I noticed in last night's Shoutbox the sudden burst of enthusiasm for our £10 million acquisition, Mousset. Up until last night there seemed to be a growing cloud of negativity about the player, and the surprising thing was that we'd seen very little of the player, certainly on enough occasions to make a healthy, considered judgement. Up until last night the collective accusing finger pointed in Wilder's direction, suggesting that we'd have a lump of a player with little chance of securing a place in the first eleven. Now, after playing against an amateur eleven, it seems the critical wind has changed direction in Mousset's favour.

The factors that seem to go without comment tend to be who is qualified to make a considered decision? Employees of the club who work with the players on a daily basis, or supporters of the club who rely on hearsay, opinion, and instinct? Throwing a little balance into this equation, yes, Wilder does make decisions that I sometime question, and they usually focus on who is substituted. I'm not slavish in my respect for our manager, neither am I blind to what lies at the root of a problem surrounding our first team squad. But what I do know is this, with all the intricacies surrounding management of this club, we have a manager who has brought enthusiasm, pride, and a growing appreciation that we appear to have passed the phase of being paupers amongst the footballing hierarchy. Don't imagine I think we're going to sign £100 million players any time soon, and there's part of me hopes that Wilder will continue to recruit the unexpected, such as Ravel Morrison. It's just that it's as clear as day that in Wilder we have a manager we must hold on to, for as long as we possibly can, that's how important he is to us as a club, and as supporters.
