I might be in a minority of one where many of the topics currently being discussed on the forum are concerned, but whatever term is used to describe my questioning, it doesn't harm to apply a little curiosity to the status quo.
As for Morrison's inclusion in game one, the only person capable of making that decision is Chris Wilder. I noticed in last night's Shoutbox the sudden burst of enthusiasm for our £10 million acquisition, Mousset. Up until last night there seemed to be a growing cloud of negativity about the player, and the surprising thing was that we'd seen very little of the player, certainly on enough occasions to make a healthy, considered judgement. Up until last night the collective accusing finger pointed in Wilder's direction, suggesting that we'd have a lump of a player with little chance of securing a place in the first eleven. Now, after playing against an amateur eleven, it seems the critical wind has changed direction in Mousset's favour.
The factors that seem to go without comment tend to be who is qualified to make a considered decision? Employees of the club who work with the players on a daily basis, or supporters of the club who rely on hearsay, opinion, and instinct? Throwing a little balance into this equation, yes, Wilder does make decisions that I sometime question, and they usually focus on who is substituted. I'm not slavish in my respect for our manager, neither am I blind to what lies at the root of a problem surrounding our first team squad. But what I do know is this, with all the intricacies surrounding management of this club, we have a manager who has brought enthusiasm, pride, and a growing appreciation that we appear to have passed the phase of being paupers amongst the footballing hierarchy. Don't imagine I think we're going to sign £100 million players any time soon, and there's part of me hopes that Wilder will continue to recruit the unexpected, such as Ravel Morrison. It's just that it's as clear as day that in Wilder we have a manager we must hold on to, for as long as we possibly can, that's how important he is to us as a club, and as supporters.
