all the people boasting about their £10 Chinese fake Sheffield United shirts in the Sheffield United groups.. they look shit!

If kids are involved, I get it. If you can't afford it, and your kids want a shirt because all their mates have one, you do what you have to do (I'm not judging you... I'd do the same if I had to).

I really do get that, but ... there are grown ass men showing off in Facebook groups that they've beat the system because they got a fake as fuck shirt for a tenner. You're grown ass men ffs! You're showing off to fellow fans that you've ripped off our club. You've contributed to an illegal trade (with all the things that entails including, potentially, child labour).

I haven't worn shirts for many a year (I'll pretend it's because I'm too cool, rather than being due to age and a beer belly), but if I was the type to wear the current shirt, and I'd ordered a dodgy copy, I'd seriously keep that shit to myself and hope nobody noticed rather than broadcasting it all over social media.

Here's a suggestion: either buy an official shirt or don't wear colours at all. You look like a cheapskate wearing that shit!

We have to be so clued up with the amount of fake stuff which comes in mainly from the Asian countries.
I recently bought a retro Adidas Firebird tracksuit which was in excellent condition and if I'm honest to good to be true. And yes, remember that old "if it seems to good to be true" saying....
I just couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with it. Then I realised, all of the Adidas stitching etc was spot on. However the inner material label, the one which said "NIKE" on it, well that was definitely fake 😂

Totally get your point about not wanting one's child/children to feel left out, but just can't afford to buy a 'proper' shirt. I know football clubs have to be run as a business and maximise their income from all avenues, but some thought should be given to their less affluent supporters. Would it make sense to have the children shirts vastly discounted and more affordable, after all these are the future paying fans?

Yes, can't follow the logic of adult fans boasting about buying fake shirts showing (fake)support for the club?

I wouldn't do it personally but I see it being no different to people not buying a legit Sports package to watch PL, Championship football and go via a dodgy site for a stream or Kodi etc...

If they look like the genuine item who gives a shit? And if you didn't intend to pay 60 quid for an official shirt, you aren't ripping anyone off. They are all made in Asia anyway.

It could also be argued that the club itself are also ripping the fans off, with the amount they charge for the official merchandise in the club shop versus the actual cost of making and shipping the garment from the far eastern sweat box where it was produced.

I can see both sides of the argument tbh, but I also have little sympathy to the club with the extortionate mark up they charge. Lower the price, and more people would probably buy the official product.

Tis the way of the world. People always want a bargain and a lot of people don't have a lot of extra money swishing around in their coffers to enable them to buy *luxury products for themselves or their families.

* Blimey...did I really just call a Blades shirt a luxury product... 🤔😁

Won't be the future, paying fans, if they carry on using this loyalty points system, as they'll never be able to get a ticket to a game!!

Another reason why we should be looking to increase the capacity of the Lane as soon as practically possible. Don't shut out potential new fans of the club. Now is a great opportunity to organically grow the fan base.

Pure idiots.

I'm not going to buy one, wait 30 years for Shoreham St to knock them out as retro replicas, then jump in when WhiteHawk doesn't like his and have it off him for a fiver.

A dodgy stream doesn't deprive United of any money.

Even if, in the long term, the number of people illegally streaming games was enough to affect the business models of the companies paying for TV rights, that wouldn't disproportionately affect United and many would argue that less TV money coming into football as a whole (and going straight into the pockets of agents et al) would not be a bad thing.

I had a similar experience recently. We were in this 'Vintage clothes' place in Hexham and my girlfriend takes a liking to this 'retro' dress on display at £35.
The label has the name Barbara Hulanicki, someone I've never heard of!
However a quick Google search tells me she is and indeed she is a famous designer, but on further inspection of the dress I find the washing instructions with the name George (of Asda) 🤣
Another quick Google search finds the same dress on ebay:

It does when it could be an extra ticket purchased.

£88 for an adult/£70 for junior shirt and shorts say's it is a luxury product. But if people buy it then they'll continue to charge daft prices.

Well sometimes the clubs don’t help themselves, shirts have always been a massive profit opportunity as fans love the shirts and the demand is always high
Don’t they cost the clubs something like £15 a shirt and sell them for £50, but ultimately everyone has a choice, buy original or fake, depends also on what you can afford, especially if you have kids
I personally never buy a shirt, but from what I have seen the fakes look quite impressive

Believe it or not Barbara Hulanicki actually did do several ranges for Asda a few years back so the dress will be genuine.

How do I know this?

Because my wife wore a Biba dress at our wedding in 1977 and she still has it, together with the Biba bag it came in.

Biba was Hulanicki's original label but I wouldn't have made the connection if it wasn't for my wife commenting when the Asda range was first publicised.

For years now I've bought my son the new United home shirt for his birthday, I have bought him this years one also it has cost me 60 quid, he is 33 next it's what we do for our kids. Be it real or a ten pound fake people will buy them as it does make them feel more associated with the club, people buy what they feel they can afford end of the day we are Blades aren't we COYRAWW.

You can apply that logic to anything, though. I bet a few on here enjoy a Bic Mac meal for a fiver a pop in full knowledge that it costs about £1.50 to make (probably less).

At least all the profits from Sheffield United merchandise go into the first team. It's just another way of supporting the club. We're charging the going rate for a replica football shirt for a club of our size/postion, in my opinion. As a completely random example, ours are only £10 more than that of a bog standard League Two team (Bradford City - £45).

We're also charging £4 less than the scrubbers down the road, who are sporting a dismal shirt of dire quality, most likely made by poor souls who spend their days dreaming of a promotion to the sweat shop for chance of a better life. I wonder if Elev8 workers are in a union...

You get off lightly.

I still buy my sons season ticket every year and he's 35 later this month!

Donald Trump will put a stop to all this cheap poor quality Chinese shit, with a fair levy on what they produce , they just flood this country with shit , big containers full of shit .💩💩💩💩💩

I know the club were clamping down on this sort of thing before it even looked like promotion, although now we are big time it will be even harder to police.

Why have people have cried out for us get a good brand behind us to then buy snide, poor quality gear is beyond me, a few washes and it'll start falling to bits

It’s a luxury product because it’s absolutely unnecessary. (I appreciate kids have a different perspective on this). No adult has to dress up like a footballer to go to a match.

It's a fair point but I doubt very much that the people who stitch our Adidas shirts are living in the lap of luxury.

Oh I know, I wasn't saying that at all. Merely insinuating that stuff of worse quality is likely made in even poorer conditions. Not that it's a competition when it comes to such grim circumstances.

On a slightly different subject, I have just purchased my first Blades shirt in yonks. Yesterday I saw the away shirt which looks ace, wondered If I should have bought that one instead now. Shirt cost £59 with postage, which is a lot of money If you are out of work or on a low income. I don't know what the answer is. By the way my size is "Fat Bastard" :)
