Quite nice to read that, always seems to be the other way around.

This is what we need McBurnie to be doing!

Amusing reading the Forest forums. Fuck, they really hate us 🤣

Discussion on Osborn seems very very split. Certainly reminds me of the Fleck transfer, which is useful as he's broadly in the same position...

My Forest mate says this player divides their fan base like no other. Some say he’s Premier League, some want him out. Very odd.

He also says he’ll fit in well under Wilder as he’s hard working. And apparently we’re all about hard work and hoof. Which is always comforting to hear.

Divisive players are wilders bread and butter.

I’d be quite happy to bring him in cheaply to be honest. He sounds like a versatile player who’s suffered from not having a defined role and a merry go round of managers at the start of his career.

I’ve not doubt wilder can get him back to looking like a PL player.

Looks like he’ll be an option for our left-sided central midfield role as well as left wing back. Forest’s player of the year the year before last. Hard-working. Good age. Good price. Seems like Forest fans only don’t rate him because he “doesn’t have a position” or “never really stuck anywhere”. Sounds like poor management to me.

Gerrrimin, etc

In the Forest starting XI at Olympiacos tonight. We seem a million miles from signing any of our supposed targets at the moment.

Because you drop all pre season plans for your assets on the off chance he's sold. If papers had said, say, Everton, were maybe interested in O'Connell, would you expect Wilder to not play him tonight because he might be sold?

Yeah, We don’t appear any closer to the 3/4 we wilder was hopeful on. But to be fair jags and Robinson came out the blue really - without months of build up.

We really need to crack on though.

Well, if he's signing for us at least that's a good pre season game for him.

Better than playing Burton, Northampton and Chesterfield.

So is Osborn ready for a move to the Premier League?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their thoughts on the issue.

Louie Chandler

“I think this is comfortably a step too far for Osborn, if I am honest.

“The versatile winger has proven to be a useful option in the Championship but you would struggle to even call say he has totally proven himself there let alone being ready for the Prem.

“In 212 appearances he has directly contributed to just 45 goals which would be a worry for me if I were a Blades fan.

“Wilder has a history in signing players who perhaps do not look up for it only to turn them into incredibly useful players, but, although Osborn is a hard worker on the pitch, I just cannot see this working out.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I think he is, but only under certain conditions. If you asked me if he’s ready for the Prem with Arsenal, I’d say no.

“Sheffield United are different, their approach is all about team work, togetherness and understated players putting in overstated performances. That, for me, is Ben Osborn all over.

“He’s done well at Forest, he wouldn’t play 38 matches for a top six side but he’s got enough, just, to hold his own somewhere like the Blades.

“He’s got the right attitude too, I think he will fit in nicely to their system, offering them something fresh in the attacking midfield area which might help them stay up.

“There is no guarantee they’re going to be a success in the top flight but it seems they’re sticking to their principles.”

Alfie Burns

“I’m not 100% convinced at all, but then I don’t really consider Sheffield United as a ‘Premier League move’ because the players in Wilder’s squad don’t have that big-headed mentality and will likely welcome Osborn with open arms and mind.

“That’s a big thing for me and it would take a lot of the pressure off Osborn, which could see him adapt well to the top-flight. The expectation won’t be there at Bramall Lane, and the Forest man will slot right into the vibe of the group Wilder has put together.

“In terms of what he brings to the team, it is plainly obvious why Wilder wants Osborn. He can play down the left or in the midfield, meaning he offers depth to the 3-5-2 system. That’s going to be so valuable to Wilder over the course of the season.”

This thread is a thing of beauty. Despite the rivalry there have been no forest fans who have felt the need to come and tell us how they manage their transfers.
I’m guessing there aren’t many Forest fans who know how they manage their transfers. Who does?

Lets face it, he's being signed as a squad player to fill in at left-wing back and centre mid when required. Who are we going sign who's willing to be a backup who can fill a position (left-wing back) that's played by very few other teams successfully anyway

It could be that United are after him, because they see him as a natural wing-back anyway. They did the same with Baldock.

I thought he played well against us last season.

I usually look out for the best players in another team’s side and I did notice him. Full of energy and never gives up.

I don’t think he’s any world-beater but I’m likening him to that lad Armstrong that we had a few years ago who had to pack up through injury.

I think the fans will appreciate his sheer effort if not much else. He epitomises the “Blade” mentality so I can see why Wilder would be interested in him.

Whether he’s Prem material...I honestly don’t know. But he’s young enough to develop.

I really like the look of this lad ,great engine , technically sound and a great left peg

By all accounts he's a solid character and forest fans think he'd fit right in with wilderball

Age is just a number.

I'm talking about squad player, not first choice, but will be a safe bet to come in if needed.
Age determines what phase of your career you’re in.

Cranie is at the end of his, Osborn is the perfect age for wilder to improve

And I'm talking about for this upcoming season. Which Osbourn will be a squad player.
