How much is a few though Ben?

Fee ... I just have fat stumpy fingers :-/

The fee is supposedly around 2.25 Maupays at 45million. Seems they’re looking to spend about 45 cos the fee mentioned for the other fella they were in for was also 45

You are a million miles off. Will be announced Monday / Tuesday next week. Just a couple of loose ends to tie up. NM will be playing for SUFC next season.

Were running out of time me old mukka! has anyone got a picture taken on a potato of Maupay int car park or ont pitch? or having a pint in burton?

My own view is that given the age and potential of these two, I would definitely pay that sort of money, but inclusive of significant, performance-related bolt-ons. If it secures another £100m it’s self-financing and a lot more. I really don’t see better value for money out there.
Can't comment on McBurnie, but as regards Maupay, I think you've hit the nail on the head there [bold]

Agreed; great analogy by the way.
Yes, this thread isn’t for economics or politics but my biggest fear over Brexit is that it could trigger a proper recession. Something usually goes wrong when we get promoted. (See 1939).

Anyway, I still think it’s a fair analogy in terms of sometimes you have to pay over the odds to get what you want. (But I do understand that it’s easier to pay over the odds when you see it as a long term investment with low risk).
A number of key economic indicators point to a recession within a year or so.

I could wax lyrical about inverted yield curves. I’ll not !!!!!

Brexit, or more accurately whatever outcome we have post Brexit may accelerate or deepen the recession.

But make no bones, it IS coming, so bolt down your hatches !!

Profit is not important when you buy a player, it is how long he is on a pitch and what does he do (not the same as a house). Profit is really something you can do by developing a child into a player and selling them as the next big thing. Maupay doesn’t fit into the later category he has already gone through this development and hence £££.

Also I refuse to believe NewBee statement that his club Brentford never negotiate sale prices. They set a valuation price and stubbornly stick to it.
Trust me, they don't.

You may have room to manoeuvre in the structuring of a deal (up front vs installments; guaranteed vs conditional add-ons; sell-on percentage etc), but the bottom line will remain unchanged. Essentially this is because since Benham took over (a decade ago?), he has never let the club get into a position whereby we have had to sell a player on the cheap due to finances dictating that we must.

Nor do we box ourselves in by setting unrealistically high asking prices.

And since transfer revenues from the last 18 months have been ahead of budget targets, and NM is under contract until 2021, we can hold this line more strongly than ever.

Which is not to say we'll keep him (it's possible, though extremely unlikely imo).

But if/when he does go, I'm v.confident we'll get our price.

May seem a bit of an abstract analogy, but many years ago, when we first got married, we were desperately looking to buy our first house together....

...22 years later the extra that we paid is an irrelevance now - it's value has more than trebled in that time.
If Neal Maupay is going to be worth £60m by the time he's 44, then you'd be mad not to pay whatever BFC are asking now! ;)

A decision either way , has got to be soon! It would be kind of funny if he decided not to leave, and no fucker got him!

I vote for thread deletion in this scenario

Recession is coming. But that's as informative as saying that night will follow day. :)

From a Bees fans perspective, it wouldn't be funny, it'd be absolutely fucking brilliant! 👍

But stop it, you're getting my hopes up...

I dont quite understand our fans perspective on this, Brentford will get £20 million or he wont leave its not hard to understand, £20 mill upfront or £20 mill eventually, is still £20 mill

I just don't get the mindset of fans going on other teams fans forums and posting! I only care about what my own team is doing, and what the fans are saying.

And I don't understand fans posting on their own forum about another club's player... ;)

Benham's been the main owner for what, 7 or 8 years (thought you might know ;)) and in that time you've had one promotion and spent the last 4 seasons mid table in the Chumpionship. Looking from the outside, it's fine making money on deals and selling your assets for a profit every season (as I've said before, the modern day Crewe), but as fans, there has to come a point when you say fine, but how about the next step up the ladder ? You won't always find players that improve, investment in young players doesn't always work out, then what. Benham will more than likely lose interest, cash in and move on.

just 4 more pages to reach the 200 page thread. I reckon this thread will self-combust round about 220 pages!

Really?

I like talking to other fans about football, getting different perspective on things.

Also think thats why Roys 'View from' is so popular.

What you underestimate are the multiple pressures created by trying to keep a player who wants to go. It very rarely ends well.

I’m as confident as you, but my confidence is that you will in fact compromise on the fee. I know very little about Brentford but I know a bit about how football and business generally operate.

But apparently Brentford operate and do their transfer business differently to EVERY other club in the league, it what makes them unique and special.......apparently lol.
