Surely all Brentford have to do is instruct the agent to secure the right deal and then come back to them when suitable terms are agreed with both parties. Then the official approach is made and accepted.
Would that not mean they have discussed a rough fee and said anyone reaches that then go ahead therefore a fee has been agreed??

Otherwise is the agent going back to them if we offer £5 and Ched

I don’t know where I’d fall. Really £800k in the scheme of the transfer doesn’t feel enough to potentially rob us of a different maker - on the other wilder should stand up to these parasites and he sounds like the type of agent who’s be touting him after a year anyway.

I agree £800K isn't a lot in the grand scheme of the potential size of the transfer, and thats why I don't think it's the actual amount that's the issue, maybe more what it potentially represents.

Too much control over the player by this agent, could that cause us issues going forward?

Maupay not being very proactive in wanting to come here, agent potentially just wanting an auction (so he gets a bigger payment??). Seeing as Wilder has mentioned only wanting players that want to play for the club I could see the agents actions making him think twice.

Maybe the standoff is Wilder testing Maupay, seeing what sort of character he is? Do you want to play in the prem or do you just want to do what your agent wants you to do?

West Brom apparently interested in him.

It does seem like the agent is touting him around hoping someone will pay his fee.

When you get a young lad who's prepared to sit in Midland staion until his agent tells him he's allowed to breathe, you do have to look at the bigger picture.

They are parasites and leeches, but very good at what they do. Until FIFA/ UEFA/ the FA etc force agents to only be paid by players, this kind of shit will continue. Even then the sums wouldn't necessarily change, but at least some players might query why their agents get more out of a transfer than they do.

There is a point of principle here, that we are not an easy touch. If we lose our number one target then we move on to number two.

The bigger picture is important if we don't want to end up like the S6 lot and their 'relationship' with Doyen.

Whilst I agree, knowing how some players handle their money the agent was getting clubs pay the fee to make sure they got it! A few years ago, I had a nightmare trying to get money out of a Premier League player whose credit card kept bouncing. I spoke with his agent who paid the money (honest, the press never got mentioned) and said "I'll just get it back off his club before he gets paid".

At which point Maupay would want more wages that amount to, ooh, 800k over the course of the contract

That's fine, but plenty of players will challenege their agents when they are having to hand over the dosh.

Not all, and those that just let their agents dip into their accounts to take what they are 'owed' deserve all they get.

A plague on all their houses and all that.

:D Brilliant! Well said mate! I have to work with these trendy London corporate-speak types. They just repeat whatever trendy phrases are going around and don't even stop to consider for a moment that they are speaking a version of English that is nonsensical and sounds rather silly. Oh and the way they end every sentence on a rising tone, so it sounds like they are asking a question! I love to interrupt them when they do this and ask...

"sorry, was that a question?"

It doesn't stop them though. They can't help it.

"an I was like, an he was like, an she was like, an they were like....." Like what FFS? If you are going to start a simile then finish the damn thing, or use a metaphor instead!🥵
That post had me laughing and made my day.The rising tone is sweeping round the world. It has arrived here as well even tv news presenters use it,so irritating!

"Let's take a rain-check on it" meaning "let's look into it"
"Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes it" meaning - "let's share the idea with others and see what they think"
"I have a little kite I'd like to fly with you" meaning "I have an idea to put to you"
"Let's take that offline" - meaning, "shut the fuck up about that will you, we can discuss it some other time, not now!" :D

There's only one correct way to respond to anyone who says "I need this by the end of play today", and that's to prioritise something else until tomorrow.

"end of play"? I'm not Babe Ruth, fuck off.
