To date, since season end, they’ve done better business than us. We’ve brought in a championship level midfielder, they’ve brought in a Swiss international with Bundesliga experience, a keeper with champs league & Bundesliga experience and an attacking midfielder with La Liga, Scottish prem & champs league experience.

I think you need to add the context of who he was managing and where.

Walsall not exactly big hitters when in League One. Likewise Brentford in the Championship.

If Wilder loses more than he wins next year, but keeps us up, would you class him as not particularly impressive?

On that we agree. He's basically spent about 60-80m on restoring the team that finished well behind us in the Championship and whom we put 7 past.

This is what made Wilder's team all the more remarkable than Lampard's or Smith's efforts. Not much of a legacy for Lampard when you remove Wilson, Mount and Tomori straight away. Likewise Villa have splashed loads on getting El Ghauzi, Mings, Hause, Wesley in lieu of Abraham. Then they added Jota and Target. Ok top 6 Championship additions but even then, by no means best of the best.

Trouble with Villa is they’ve got a Chris Wilder type manager in charge........ With a tad more money in his skyrocket. There’s a good chance they’re gonna fancy the same sort of player, but offer them better wages.
