12m for Hendo and everybody is fine with it?
This isn't 1920s Germany, he's a good Championship keeper who still has mistakes in him.
Applying normal day logic you are of course correct, however that's not the world Premiership teams live in. I would 100% agree he isn't anywhere near the finish article.
This season is going to be a steep learning curve, and I believe he'll cost us at least a game this season.
However, the following is the reason you're logic is wrong;
He's 22 years old, with experience of being one of the top keepers in the Championship, in a very competitive field.
At 22 he's got at least 6 years until he's getting into his prime. You are paying for his potential and in this league at £12m you can afford it if some of this type of signing doesn't come off.
After a single year of PL appearances and experience, his value would double.
If we are relegated, he would again be a top keeper at that level, and would retain his value in that if a PL wanted to sign him it would cost more than we paid.
He's fitted into the dressing room and works well with the centre halves we already have, not to mention coaching staff.
£12 isn't close to being excessive for an unproven youngster moving to the Premiership. Brooks, James, etc.
Angus Gunn is the current benchmark for young English keepers at £13 million to be Southampton's No 2.
To purchase the finished article would cost considerably more in fee's and wages.
