So, we’ll have to bring in 8 or 9 players with £20million pounds? Not looking very promising, is it?

Yoann Barbet is available on a free
Tom Bayliss has a £3m release clause

Blimey, it’s gonna be a looooong season.
It was Wilder himself that said the budget will be around 20 million similar to that of Norwich.

Where has 8 or 9 players come from?

I thought I'd read somewhere that it's to be quality over quantity, although I maybe wrong.

Max squad size in the Prem is 25

Yes I do think £30m - £40m just in transfer fees. They don't have to be upfront fees. I am talking the "reported" fee ie £75m for Van Dijk.

So you think we will spend £0-£10m if you are deducting £30m in wages from my guesstimation? If that is correct we may as well all sack it in now.

Premier League Spending Summer 2018 (Only summer window, January not included)

I still think £30m-£40m will be the range.
Think Tottenham is our new approach.

I think we will spend a similar amount to Cardiff £30m-£40m in the summer with £10m-£15m if needed for Jan

If we spend 30-40 million this summer I'd be gobsmacked. Think we will be lucky to spend 15-20 million. We will probably bring in one 6 or 7 million player and then 3 or 4 others at 2-3 million. We aint spending 40 million. Thsts why McBurnie, Maupay and Jota will not come I feel. Youre talking about maybe a Freeman or Assombalonga at 5-7 million ish tops sadly as our top range. Hope I'm wrong.

Agree 100% people are dreaming if they think we're spending 30 plus.
I think between 15-20 million also.

8 or 9 isn’t far off:

2 Strikers - We only have two senior strikers currently.
1 Keeper - Hendo has gone, hopefully he’ll return.
1 Attacking Midfielder - ideally a first choice, but at the very least to compete with Duffy.
1 Midfielder - challenge to Norwood/Fleck but at least back up.
1 Defender - again competition for places but we still need back up.
1 Wing Back - competition/back up.

I make it 7 bare minimum, I’ve said as competition but I’m hoping we will have at least 3 new first team regulars next season which will easily cost £30m especially with us needing attacking players.

30 million isn't happening 20 tops.

I'd like to see a few examples of these players we could pick up for 2 or 3 million....

Very few of an adequate standard are available at that price point. It's generally straight up to 4 or 5 million.

Assombalonga for £5m-£7m? He cost Boro £15m, no chance we’d get him for any less than £10m.

This first signing will be the biggest, whether it be Mcburnie or Assombalonga.

If we get Brit for 10m, a jota or Freemam for around 5-6m I'd say we would only spend another 4 or 5 million after that. The rest would be loans.

McCabe says CW has a "healthy budget"

All depends on the definition of healthy, but I don't believe for one minute that McCabes definition is the same as some of the budgets quoted on here, especially after reading some of the stories in the High Court

I think they'd sell him for a lot less than they bought him for. Would not surlise me of they accepted 7 million with maybe add ons. He's not even been a regular there and they are looking to shift some high earners.

I agree that is what we should be aiming for but there is no way we sign 5 or 6 players for 5 million +. Not happening

You may well be right there Deadbat but can't see us signing Assombalonga for £7m. Up top, where we need reinforcements that's the most you have to pay of course and Boro aren't going to let him go for half wy they paid for him. I reckon we could get Jota though for £4-6m, he's not been a headline player this season and would be one where Wiler feels he can get more from I would guess. Sorry if I'm taking your post too literally though, I think spending wise you may well be right.

Wilder said we'd break our record a few times.

So we're willing to spend £12m on McBurnie, need at least another 7 after him but won't spend more than £20m.....

Who says we are willing to spend 12m on McBurnie? I would not believe everything you read in the papers Swansea will ask for in excess of that and the club won't blow 3/4s of its spend on one player.

I am stunned if fans think we will go out and spend 40-50 million this summer. We never have before (granted its a long time since we were up there but even with inflation and fees increasing - we bought the likes of Davis and Hulse for 3 million and 3 or 4 frees/cheaper ones). We will maybe sign a couple for 5 or 6 each and then 3 or 4 others on frees/less fees. As I say we need to spend a lot more but evidence suggests this club will not do that. The current uncertainty behind the scenes will not help one bit sadly.

Unless Boro are desperate to sell, which I doubt, they’ll want at least what they paid for him. They’re negotiating with a cash rich Premier League club, they’d be daft to accept less than £12m.

McBurnie's an obvious top target and we know he will cost. We'll be willing to pay over £10m for him. We wouldn't be if we only had £10m left for everybody else.

I agree with most of that but imho, not only do we need new first teamers we also need to improve the squad... Don’t we only have 16 professionals? I think I read that somewhere...
I agree with the need for two more strikers and an AM...or maybe we can get by this season rotating Duffy and McGoldrick.
We need three keepers...what happens if Hendo gets injured? Who do we then have on the bench? So we need to get two more keepers.
Imho, we also need two defenders, one to replace Cranie, to challenge Bash; and one as back up for Jack.
We need an LWB as back up for Enda...do we need an RWB as an upgrade on either Baldock or Freeman?
So yeah... 8 or 9 more. Gotta hope there’s some good players available for nowt much.

I’d imagine any fee would include a healthy percentage of add ons. £Xmil for staying up / number of goals etc that would bring the actual initial cash outlay to more a reasonable figure.... If it was a large chunk if we stayed up - I’m sure most would be happy to pay that.

I was thinking this -

I think we are deffo going to need to add some cheaper squad players to the side. Say the likes of Powell on a free / a free agent with larger wages say a Fer for example. To flesh out some of the positions we’ve let leave.

I do wonder how the recruitment is going to work this year with a different range of targets from what we are used to. Exciting times
