Neal Maupay

Just leave it lads
£15 - £20 million is more than our fans brains can compute

Callum Wilson, Josh King, David Brooks, Jordan Ibe, Troy Deenay, all stepped up to the Premier League with no previous track record, as have many others, and so will many more.

We'll miss out on every single one of them if our management team think like our fans.

And we'll end up with old players who have played in the Prem before but never done anything sparkling

Players like Austin and Long.

When these players give us 5 goals next season our fans will rejoice in the fact that we didn't waste money, when in reality they will have cost us a fortune
might be proved wrong but wilder doesn't buy old players looking for retirement funds.. for all of these predictions on here, Wilder will buy players noone has even 'mentioned' .. he does it every year:

Wilder buys x
who is x?
x starts
x is crap
x is improving
x is a bargain
Wilder is a genius

repeat

Maupay's debut for them was against us. I could see straightaway that they've 'got another one'. Predictably. He should've had a couple in that game. His big second season was predictable. Then boom, £20m. From a £1.6m investment.

I wish we were the ones finding them for £1.6m, not letting others do that then giving them £20m.

It's an example of how costly it could be in the long term not having a foreign scouting network.

Could we offer their hard-working, but probably under-appreciated, scouting network the opportunity to work for a progressive PL team?

I think we have one, although I'm unsure how extensive it is. Paul Mitchell was on Sheffield Live talking about the scouting we'd been doing in Argentina a few months ago. I'd be putting more money in the scouting and academy systems if it was my choice.

To be fair it wouldn't have taken much of a foreign scouting network to spot Maupay. He was only in France, and must have stood out a lot in Ligue 2.

That said, he would've still chosen Brentford over us at that time.

As for the academy, we have a fantastic chance to steal a march on other clubs in the region when it comes to recruitment thanks to our new PL status and everything that enables.

Not a chance of us spending 20 million on this lad! Our budget is only a reported 20 million! And we need about 7/8 players out of that!

Love the views of the majority of our fans !

When we were in division one and the championship we couldn't compete for decent players due to budget and premiership interest.

Now we are in the premiership the majority think we still cant compete ! If we cant afford championship strikers we.might as well pack in as we are.now at a level where Wilder cany keep pulling rabbits out of hats.

With the rest of.the side.lookimg relatively strong and Hogan and Madine having.left it's not at all unreasonable to assume we can afford both Maupay and McBurnie. If not sre we really shopping in division one ?

We should be scouting the lower divisions in Europe extensively. In Particular the ostensibly less attractive eastern European countries.I think in Spain and France etc competition for players is always going to be tough regardless of the division. Agree on the academy. Now's the time to ask the owners the question I asked in May 2016. Are we going cat one now we are back in the premier league? The nearest are Middlesborough and Sunderland if memory serves.

We can't afford both! It would take 30 million to get both!
Chris Wilder said our budget is around what Norwich's will be and that is a reported 20 million.
We're not signing anybody for 10 million plus.

Maybe the majority of out fans have a greater grasp of reality than you do

There’s always the theory that it’s 20m with add ons for specific performance milestones of course and the initial outlay won’t be near that

Or maybe they are stuck with a small time mentality like you that believes we cant possibly compete with the might of Bournemouth, Burnley, Watford and Brighton despite now.being in the same division

Huddersfields 3 biggest signings.cost 18m, 12m and 11m but of course they are also a much bigger club than.us and we couldn't possibly aspire to compete at that level could we ?

No ,Huddersfield had two seasons of prem money as have the others you mention

Fulham (100m spend) , Wolves, Cardiff ??

We'll spend more than you imagine and if we dont Wilder will be well within his rights to be very disappointed. As a minimum the premiership is worth 100m per season over the championship and that's not counting 3 years of parachute payments. Even with an inflated wage bill that leaves plenty for transfer fees

You only get two years parachute payments if you only spend a season there.

Well thats still 3 years of revenue beyond our wildest dreams 2 years ago. If we want to maintain our stay in the premiership we will have to spend big but wisely and we have the perfect manager to do that.

Wilder has proven he can be trusted with a transfer budget with our 2 biggest signings last season playing the entire season and being 2 of our best players. He wont waste the money but he will have to spend substantially to buy the likes of Maupay and McBurnie...who let's face it are just good championship strikers but still largely unproven. Nobody's expecting us to go out and buy established internationals but even unproven costs 10m+ nowadays

Fulham and wolves are owned by billionaires and cardiff spent approximately what we will

Excellent Eddie if that's your 'reality'....15m on Sala, 10m on Murphy and 10m on Reid plus 3 others all costing 10m between them. So 45m in total that will do me fine...and Wilder !

Cardiffs summer spend was on here he other day ,it wasn't anywhere near 45 million

With the Sala transfer - which i think should be taken into account, as they did agree to the deal, only for a horrible accident to intervene - it looks like it wasn't far off that figure, for the season, not just summer.
Josh Murphy - £10m
Bobby Reid - £10m
Greg Cunningham - £3.5m
Alex Smithies - £3.5m
Leandro Bacuna - £3m
Emiliano Sala - £15m

As well as a few high profile loans
Oumar Niasse
Harry Arter
Victor Camarasa

To be fair though we are only talking about the summer window at the minute :)

I think we will spend a similar amount to Cardiff £30m-£40m in the summer with £10m-£15m if needed for Jan

If you include in that £30m - £40m the large rise in the wage bill which probably stands at about £20m and will probably add £10m to it then I'll agree with you

If you think the £30m - £40m will be just on fees then I'd say no chance

Yes I do think £30m - £40m just in transfer fees. They don't have to be upfront fees. I am talking the "reported" fee ie £75m for Van Dijk.

So you think we will spend £0-£10m if you are deducting £30m in wages from my guesstimation? If that is correct we may as well all sack it in now.

I still think £30m-£40m will be the range.

.

No, that's not what I think.

I'm excluding last seasons wage bill in my estimate

£10m added to last seasons wage bill and £20m in transfer fees = £30m spend

So, we’ll have to bring in 8 or 9 players with £20million pounds? Not looking very promising, is it?

Yoann Barbet is available on a free
Tom Bayliss has a £3m release clause

Blimey, it’s gonna be a looooong season.

Fair enough. As I said i think if will be a bit higher but I guess we will find out. :)
