On the other side of Inevitable Disappointment!
What about poor signings that came out fantastic
I'll start off with the one and only
BOB BOOKER

Christ, theres loads for this. Derek Geary for one and almost anyone Warnock had in that 2002-2003 team. Its difficult to put Bassett era players in because, at the time, though they cost peanuts nowt was expected of them anyway. Players like Bryson and Gannon were never going to get the pulse racing but they were about as good as we could expect given how skint we were at the time and considering the promotions and we won with them youd have to say they did incredibly well. Simon Tracey would be one I suppose, I think hed only made one first team appearance for Wimbledon before we signed him where hed conceded 5 goals in the Charity Shield.

All of the information above could be bobbins.

Spackman... came good when he stopped playing and started on the management side

Simon Tracey, John Gannon, Brian Deane & Tony Agana from Harry'd reign I suppose!

Liverpool won the 1988 Charity Shield by 2-1. After their 5-2 loss to Arsenal in Wimbledon's opening league game at Plough Lane, Bobby Gould dropped Tracey to the reserves

Shaun Murphy. Looked like a league 2 player before Warnock sorted him. Ended up being one of the first on the team sheet.

Neil Shipperley.

Had been released on a free by Crystal Palace, was supposedly too old, too slow, too overweight.

The reality was that he came in, his experienced showed through, he held up the front line magnificently, and played a very significent part in getting us promoted and for me he is the cult hero of this decade

Can we have players who came and never lived up to expectations but then after we sold them on became pretty big players?

Trianos (sp) Dellas anyone?

Shiiiii---perrrr----leeeeee!!

Deano.

I remember a Spirite I used to play football with saying to me one pre season " I see you lot have signed that big useless streak of lean from Donny"

I must admit that I hadn't a clue who he was talking about but just how wrong can a football fan be?

Good job managers tend to have better judgement ;-)

Paddy Kenny.
Killa started off poor and came good.
Shippppppperleyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Murphy

I,ve got to say Most recent is Jamie ward only because both of chesterfields supporters said he was average, so i wasn't sure. However he has turned out to be a great signing.

Rob Hulse! Won me over in his first 20 minutes!

McCall was considered by many to be a laughable signing. But I regard him, rather than Brown, as the main reason our midfield was so good in 2002-3.

Bobby Davison - hated when at Leeds

Paul Beesley

And a certain reserve keeper from West Brom who is sadly no longer with us :(

Beesley was our record signing at the time. I can't recall anyone thinkinge he was a poor signing.

I seem to remember him struggling during those first 16 games Darren and coming good once we got going.

Although I do recall a superb performance against Sunderland one cold tuesday evening which may have been his turning point? I'm sure you can help with that:)

What about Paul Rogers? He came from part time football into a United side in the top flight. I cant recall what peoples reactions to that were.

Was that the evening when him and Wilf Rostron gifted Sunderland two goals with some of the worst defending ever to (dis)grace the Lane?
