Eric was a big blade at school, could handle himself, I nay be wrong but did he live in the small boys home? Paul North by the way was in the national news some years ago, he was a coach to female athletes at the institute of sport I think it was, not sure which particular sport it was but he was found guilty of taking advantage of under age girls in his charge, front page of the star, I couldn't believe it when I saw it, a right shock, some other lads were Stephen Cooper,Alan Scott and Alan Bird ,couple of big lads, always played centre half in the school yard just because they were ,er, stout lets say.
Not sure about Eric's background, but I can certainly remember the other three you have mentioned. It just seems like a different world thinking back all those years.

I was born in August so I was the youngest in the year so I may have ended up in the year above you

I remember Miss Dodsworth well and yes there was always the rumour of her and man Martin....as kids, we found it quite amusing that ‘older’ people fancied each other. I am struggling to remember (not difficult) Driscoll....I left in 1969.

Driscoll had the J4 class, think he left summer 66. Certainly before the move to Manor Oaks.

Miss Barry, later Mrs Stevenson, was the other nice teacher l mentioned, taking the infant 2’s.

I

I was there when it first opened, last year of infants, had to go to holinsend junior/infants for a short while until it opened, we moved to herdings in 1959 one if the first I think, my brother was born in 1949 so will be 70 in June and also went to holinsend before going straight to the juniors at herdings, Mr. Henstock

Me too. Bit of a school merry go round for me. Went to Hollinsend school first, then Constable Road school before moving to Herdings when it opened. Colin Henstock was indeed the Headmaster (non of this Headteacher rubbish in the 1960's) and my last teacher at the school was Leon Chandler.
I had already been to St Steven's infant school on Fawcett Street before we moved onto the Valley so I had four infant schools before I was about six or seven years old.
Oh, and there were 48 of us in my last class at Herdings. Unheard of these days.

Chandler was a good teacher but Miss Brewster was a waste of space, totally disinterested in teaching lads, spent all her time helping the girls.

Mr Henstock was ex RAF wasn’t he? Used to march us into morning assembly like air cadets. :)

I'd forgotten about that Gray, seem to remember the dam busters mostly, Mr. chandler, 4A I think, liked his sport, I also started with the woodcraft folk there, most weekends in the summer went down Lightwood Lane past the RAF camp for a weekends camping, sounds more like something off the Durrells!

The only photograph I ever took that has BDTBL on it. It's not a very good one and was taken from Claywood Flats in Spring 1970. Look in top left hand corner. :)
Fantastic photo, pity about the weather that day in 1970. I see the Montgomery, Tetley house , a haunt of an uncle who worked at a small garage on Turner St which is also visible, Blythes, still there. The rail yard where you took a car to be transported by rail, left end Suffolk Rd., see the large gate entrance Also the Norfolk Arms, right end Suffolk Rd. As this photoSuffolk Rd-Norfolk Arms rebuilt late 50's-Shoreham St Tram Depot tower&kennings Garage behind R.jpg which used to look like this. Oh shit that turned out bad sorry Mick. Lost internet connection whilst replying hope you get what i'm trying to say.
