Yep, but it’s remarkable how that moment in our recent history has been rewritten. At the time Swansea Kyle was the one everyone assumed had big things ahead of him, but I heard that version of the story being vigorously dissed by one of our longer standing supporters only last month.

I remember Man City Kyle making one of his earliest appearances away at Hull ... at centre half I think (?) Maybe off the bench? Do I remember it rightly when I say he had a shaky night, and was at fault for a goal / near goal? Cup game?

Ahh, questionable, hazy, half-formed memries.

Anyone with a football brain could see that Kyle Walker was the one who had the most potential, not necessarily the most consistent. Bear in mind Naughton got to play the majority of that season and Walker only broke into the team towards the end.

But I remember Walker playing in our last home game of the season against Swansea and rightly picking up the MOM award. He just oozed class that day.

Monday after went into work (in Manchester) and told my colleagues (all City fans ironically) that Kyle Walker would be an England player. They were like "stop banging on about this Kyle lad nobody's heard of!"

The rest is history.

I was at the same game. Aside from seat issues (pipe down Foxy) I announced towards the end of the game 'that lad will play for England'.

It’s not really a hazy memory though. True Naughton was the big buy as far as the media and even Spurs were concerned. But I remember going mental as Walker was obviously the better player and he was just chucked in as a sweetener. I wasn’t the only one who thought this at the time, not just with the benefit of hindsight.
