Will you miss the derby?

When they beat us on Boxing Day 1979 they had the bragging rights for the next 12 years.

Let us have them bragging rights from Bouncing day for that long. Would suit me to the ground.

Nope. Never ever.

Actually, maybe if we were a couple of divisions above them and drew them in the FA Cup.. at home. Other than that, no, they can rot in hell

Bloody love the derby, FFS it’s a massive game.

Has everyone forgot about smashing them 4-2 at Pigland? That was a memory which will live with me for decades!

Yeah that game was brilliant agreed but just think since we’ve emerged as promotion contenders I’ve barely even registered the derbies as big games , I’ve only thought of them as possible points.

I wouldn’t miss them with how we are right now and next season.

Genuinely can’t even fathom that view. To have the Steel City Derby in the Prem would be magnificent. It’s one of maybe 3 or 4 arch rivalries which still exist and are as fierce as ever.

After 3 consecutive no shows, no.
Aslong as, if they get promoted in the next couple of seasons, we do the double over them, and eclipse the 4 we scored at the shed.

Your probably right, I think I’ve just been caught up in the focus on promotion. Most of my mates who support pigs just sound like constant whining twats so it’s been more annoying than any semblance of rivalry.

As you say though if it’s in the prem then possibly a different story

No. Hate derbies even though I have seen us win more than we’ve lost. Obviously winning is fantastic but the stress caused by the fear of losing is horrible.

If we go up and stay up after about 5 years maybe play them pre season. Good way for some intensity in legs.

But in all seriousness No. Playing actually massive clubs more than makes up for it.

Not a chance. They are horrible games and more often than not poor games to watch for the neutral too.

Short term I will not miss it, if we go up we will have exciting opponents most weeks. But, like a shitty relation, it will good to touch base every now and then. I can’t be doing with the the overhyped crap surrounding our derby games. I’ve been to plenty of them over the years and had extreme highs and extreme lows. I’m too old now to enjoy the tension. Also, sadly, I cannot look at a blue and white shirt without feeling ill, murderous and sympathetic at the same time. After Boxing Day and the disaster I think they should destroy their ground for the good of mankind, and I don’t want any of the blue and white striped porkers anywhere near BDTBL. So on reflection ,it’s a NO.

Beat your rivals in a local derby and a man can gloat for a month

Be above your rivals by an entire division and he can gloat for life (or at least until they get relegated)

Let’s cut them some slack!

Their only hope of a morsel of glory is not getting beaten by us in a derby match. A 0-0 draw with us now is a moral victory to them. No wonder they don’t want the derby matches to end. That’s how far behind us they have fallen.

“Older, bigger, better” has turned into “Decrepit, Smaller, Worse”.

Don't forget though, they're getting promoted next season and if we go up we're definitely going down

Not at all, hate the Sheffield derbies usually all hype and very little football played. The one at the sty last season was good when the pigs thought they would out play us what a shock they got, but since then they just park the bus and refuse to make it a game of football the last three have been truly awful games.

I'll miss them.

But I'm sure we'll see them again in a couple years when our Under 23s are beating them in the JPT after they get relegated ;)

If... IF IF IF F we go up, and Leeds dont...

... am I right in thinking our closest “derby” would be Manchester City?

I’ll take a 0-0 win in that one.

Hopefully, if the results go our way, we’ll soon have bigger fish to fry. A lot bigger fish. Our outlook needs to be less parochial, results against them don’t define us anymore. Promotion to the prem would push us out of the orbit of the ‘steel city derby’. If we go up & stay up and Wednesday don’t go up next season, then they are yesterday’s news. I doubt Newcastle miss playing Sunderland. Different levels.
