"BTW Leeds are winning already, and are already playing against 10 men, so the goal difference might suffer a bit as well here"

He made contact, maybe slightly but it was enough to go down. There was no covering defender, mcgoldrick was 5 yards in front before he got fouled. Red every day. He would of had a clear shot on goal had he not been fouledDefinite foul on McG imo. He was on his way around the defender who was stuck flat footed. Any contact was minimal but the lunge was reckless and stopped McG getting on the end of the run without being close to playing the ball.
I think the red card was harsh and I’d be annoyed if it was handed to one of ours. There was a couple of defenders getting back and I don’t think it was a clear goal scoring opportunity. He was on his weak foot coming into the area at pace with the ball moving quickly ahead of him. It certainly helped us though and I’ll take it! I wish we would run at defenders and try and commit them a bit more often. What a game he had upfront.
Their penalty shout wasn’t a pen imo. Don’t think he was going to get on the end of his cut inside. He saw the opportunity to play for contact and went for it.
he fell over hurdling the tackle. ........if there wasn't a touch it still constitutes a foul, I'm not sure.

There's people on this forum who think a leg breaking tackle/block isn't a foul. There was an old man down our street who was convinced that whenever a player didn't suffer a broken leg it wasn't a foul
On the other hand, a generous reading of the situation says that McGoldrick fell over hurdling a tackle. A cynic would have he dived. Either way, he wasn't taken out.
People need to read the rules of football. The Gerrard incident was a penalty (Styles’ explanation was correct) and the red card incident today was a foul. As for the two players ‘covering’, they were five yards behind McGoldrick when he had to slow down due to the challenge. The ref got it right. The rule is pasted below, with the relevant parts in bold.
LAW 12
Direct free kick
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
- charges
- jumps at
- kicks or attempts to kick
- pushes
- strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
- tackles or challenges
- trips or attempts to trip
For the incident with Duffy / Colbeck, I reckon that could have gone either way. Duffy didn’t need to leave his knee out, but it’s very debatable whether it was a foul.

Bang on. Said at half time why are they watering the penalty area we’d be defending. Not only that but the sprinklers were rotating to cover the whole area at the end we were defending but didn’t seem to me doing the same at the other end.Just watched it back on TV now as it was at the opposite end to me, unnecessary lunge it was described as. Glad he got a red card, didn’t like the cut of his jib.
Mcgoldrick slipped twice today and fell over, deano slipped and nearly had a colossal disaster... maybe the pitch was too wet ?
I don’t think that Morgan was “attempting to trip” or “attempting to foul” Gerrard.
I think he went for the ball and missed but in doing so caused Gerrard to avoid his challenge and fall over. Without any contact being made
What do the rules/laws say about that? Genuine question.
Sophistry.
Gerrard never fell over. He still got his shot away.I don’t think that Morgan was “attempting to trip” or “attempting to foul” Gerrard.

Why?
It's
a) completely true
and
b) completely out of context.
The context here being dozens, hundreds, thousand, millions, zillions of attempted fouls go unpunished throughout the game at all levels and across time, despite It Being Written.
The problems is not:
It was given
The problem is
It was given and millions of others aren't.
It's not application of The Law that's the issue; it's selective application of The Law that's the issue.
The ref was in a good position end of story !Seems harsh![]()
