I am seething with Madine!!!

First bit is simply not true , 3 or 4 players remonstrated with the referee ,just out of interest were you at the game. Reason I ask is as LJ says the angle on the TV is misleading ,he approached from the side and tackled with his wrong foot. It was a crap forwards tackle which should have had a yellow ,people saying words had been said ,he was pent up etc etc are just talking shit ,he was having a good game ,far better than his partner. Look at madines reaction which says a lot ,he had resigned himself to a booking and was totally bewildered when the red came out ,he wasn't angry just shocked.

I was at the game and sat right in front of it.

My opinion hasn't changed from the actual time to watching it back. Then again I'm not overly concerned off some fans think a red was harsh.

Like I say some are happy to ignore the pros including our manager, and accuse those agreeing with the decision of having an agenda. I don't get that, but it's predictable nonetheless.

Again, what angle were the pro's viewing it at? I'm assuming it was the same as the replay which as I've pointed out, makes it look worse than it was. Again, the picture I've seen (I'm still trying to locate it) shows that the ball was there to be won, it wasn't 'the other side of the players body' until their player stepped across slightly.

It was needless I'll fully agree with that.

Interesting that you suggest the 'Madine factor' is clouding some judgements. I assume you don't feel that way about the people who agree with yourself? For what it's worth I haven't mentioned any agendas so you don't really need to be putting that comment my way.

I wasn't putting any comment your way.

As someone who often uses Chris Wilder's views and comments to suggest posters are wrong, you've gone a bit turn turtle on this one.

Anyway I've said my bit. No-one is going to change their mind.

Often? As I've said before the incident could have been seen differently depending on the angle at which it was viewed. You've stated that Madine went straight through the back of the player, which isn't true, but from your angle I can understand why it looked that way. It could possibly be that Wilder saw it from a similar angle to yourself.

I assumed you were aiming that comment my way as you said it when replying to me.

Funny you 'don't get' those people who accuse others of having an agenda but are happy to claim that those who disagree with you are letting the 'Madine factor' to cloud their judgement.

Best we leave it there.

Anyone saying that isn’t a red are totally blinded by their conflict with those who don’t like Madine.

Because it couldn't possibly be that they just saw the incident a different way. "Anyone who disagrees with me is stupid..."

Before he got sent off I noticed a couple of times him booting the ball away after the whistle or if the call had gone out. Looked like he was pissed off in the lead up to the challenge.
Yeah I noticed the same, a couple of times also he was behind one of their lads trying to tackle from behind, which invariably would have been given as a free kick

So tell me your thoughts on Geary ,Quinn and Bradshaw

Started as pigs so had to do that bit extra to prove themselves in my book. Geary and Bradders did enough to become part of our history (also Jeff King), Quinn was fine in the end, but less influential than the former three.

Your turn now. Were you happy when we signed Terry Curran, being as how he had such a good run in the third division and did you welcome him with open arms?

Wow!
Some widely varying views on the challenge by Madine.
My view in real time, yellow I exclaimed in my head. My two modern day footballer sons exclaimed red.
This morning, having viewed it several times, harsh but understandable yellow, never ever a red!
Did he actually make contact with the guys leg? His tackling foot appears at the side of the other guys leg, he certainly didn't go through him as some suggest.
I do despair at some sending offs these days, but then I come from a different era where you had to really do something badly wrong to get sent off.
He flew in, studs up, from behind, and ended up on the floor. It’s a red card even if he doesn’t make contact because it’s a reckless challenge which endangers an opponent.

Thankfully we’ve moved on from the days where you could go in on players with 2 feet and not give away as much as a foul.

Wasn't over pleased that we had signed him but supported him when he played as I support sheff utd not individuals. For the record he had one blinding game at Stoke. There are others I've disliked far more than him such as Baxter falconer Hill and Stewart but that's because they were not good for utd in various ways.

You obviously do, which is to refute any criticism of Madine, justified or otherwise. It was a nobheaded challenge no matter which of our players had done it. In this case it happened to be Madine and it was stupid.
I'm not sure if it just 'happened to be Madine'. I can't think of another Blades player who'd be stupid enough to commit a tackle like that. It was a tackle of someone not quite right. I think the reason it got a red, was that all tackles have to have some commitment to getting the ball or at least removing the ball from the player in possession and this didn't have that, and therefore just looked malicious.

Do you hate Madine?

Would you have posted that comment had it been Sharp?

Never hated Madine and yes I would have said same about anyone else making that challenge.

Did you think the Vaulks challenge was a red?

Just a different way to look at it, not to excuse it was a dreadful tackle and was totally silly and not needed but, Could Madine have been trying to hard to impress? Only his second red card in his career. I say this because tracking back and making tackles isn't really his game but we know how much wilder likes this from his strikers. Did Madine want to impress and by doing so did the total opposite. Some of the comments are ridiculous send him back etc. He has done well since he come to us and has definitely give us a different option. Madine had a rush of blood and made a totally stupid unneeded tackle no doubt about it but get off the kids back.

Agreed. Madine played some lovely knocks up until the red card and I've never seen him press/work so hard for other teams he's played for like he has since joining us. Tackling aint his forte and he was silly to lunge in but some fans will always single him out when he comes up short.

Did you think the Vaulks challenge was a red?

Yes. Having seen both from a number of anglesvVaulks was
Madine not. The ref was influenced by his earlier challenge.

I propose an orange card. Punished by 15 mins in a sin-bin.

Any takers?

I'd say Wilders reaction, or lack of one suggests it was a red. He never questioned the decision and agreed it was a red afterwards

The fact you can’t say that it’s a straight red card because you have an agenda says more about those accusing than anything.

It’s a shameful excuse that some are using to stick up for one of the most brainless and wreckless challenges you’re ever likely to see from a Blades player.

First time seeing him in red and white last night and what an utter wazzock. Right lazy sod for the majority of his time on the pitch... then the one time he bothers to press he goes way over the top with an ill judged slide that catches the Brentford player with the studs.

All this yapping about "agendas" is pretty bloody pathetic really.

Yes, I have an agenda. The sole point of my agenda is that I want Sheffield United to win as many games of football in a season as possible to achieve promotion and a financial windfall the likes of which our beloved club has never seen.

To achieve that, it's significantly easier when they have 11 players on the pitch for the duration of a game. For someone to put in a needless tackle, studs up, through the back of a player with absolutely zero chance of winning the ball does not help the objective of keeping 11 players on the pitch to try and win the game. So yes, Madine was a moron for doing exactly that and what's worse is that we will miss his presence in the next three games for which he is unavailable.

And for those of you who were wondering, I would be saying exactly the same about any of our other players who put in such a ridiculous tackle and thus left a considerable workload for the others to secure the result. The fact we remained resolute to finish the job off for the best part of an hour has no doubt made everyone associated with the club incredibly proud and Madine certainly owes the lads who got us over the line a few Peronis.

He was outstanding for the time he was on the pitch. Don’t take my word for it, though you should, listen to Tufty’s post-match interview.

What is actually bloody pathetic and shamefully juvenile, norfolkblade, is deliberate, vindictive and nasty criticism of one of our own players. You are one of a tiny minority who would have expressed the same view about a Bladey favourite such as Sharp.

I shall continue to expose uncomfortable truths.

Is this still rumbling on for god sake he made a mistake got sent off simple as. He won’t be the first footballer to do it and won’t be the last. He wasn’t lazy the other night he was playing well then made a stupid decision. Why this needed a 10 page thread on people coming out saying told you god only knows!

Always been a fan of a 3 stage system.

2 stages (yellow and red) is just not sufficient when considering the laws of the modern game.

UTB

At last summer’s CONIFA World Football Cup, they trialled a green card – a way for a ref to basically punish the individual player without necessarily fully punishing that team. It was used for dissent or simulation and forced the player to be replaced with an unused sub. Ignoring the initial confusion in the stands, it seemed to work quite well when I saw it used.

He made a very similar and certainly unnecessary challenge/foul from behind in the game against Reading on the half way line on the John St side. We were, I think, 3-0 up at the time. I would suggest its more an issue of lack of thought/brains and/or technique than malice.

Just you wait till the international break – you’ll be desperate for this sort of flogged-to-death thread.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but given what I've said about the incident it's worth responding to. Deliberate definitely, nasty sometimes, but vindictive I've never been.

I'll openly admit that had it been another player I'd be much more likely to chalk it up to pure stupidity but none of our other players have such a prominent history of assault charges, videoing themselves driving over 100mph and shouting abuse at road workers, or being dropped from the team for their drunken antics like at Bolton.

Definitely my "Bladey favourite" Billy Sharp has kept a cleaner reputation than that.

At what point does it cease to be isolated incidents and become a matter of Madine's character? Madine has looked like a very impressive player in his time here but if he's going to prove time and time again that he can't be relied upon then I want nothing to do with him.

I'm reminded of the old Angelou quote, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time".
