No, doesn’t sound like it. Like a dog with a bone you can’t let it go. People have given a counter view to yours and you try to belittle them instead of backing up your viewpoint.

How old are you? Not having a go or trying your trick of belittling you, but you comebacross as a bit immature, ie. someone who throws a strop when others disagree with something they’ve said.
I’m not belittling anyone, I’m saying regardless what we think, does it really matter?

Answer is no. It doesn’t. It’s a really boring subject which might be why you enjoy it so much.

I really couldn’t give a flying f**k what the pigs do. They are an irrelevance and quite insignificant. They will always be the second club in Sheffield. Everyone knows it.

What I most want to see is Bruce breaking up this squad of over paid prima donnas and having a huge rebuild so we can go again. I’ve had enough of watching this crap and as fans we deserve better.

Absolute LOL

See there you go again with the little sly comments, you just can’t help yourself.
Plenty on here have given reasoned debate but you seem incapeable of doing that by backing up your argument, you’d rather carry on with the pathetic little insults.

A taxi driver abroad once asked me why they called them “Wednesday” - he said it was an unusual name for a football club. I explained that it was due to them being a team of butchers who played on Wednesday’s because it was traditionally half-day closing.

At first he didn’t believe me then he saw them play us this season at Bramall Lane and realised that they are still a team of butchers who shut up shop when they play.
In 1820 Wednesday cricket club were formed. The members worked in shops (team of butchers, you say, are you sure?). In 1867 the cricket club formed a football club

Someone needs to pull up the threads of them talking up the champ as La Liga and how we'd be straight back down with Billy Sharp bagging just 4 or 5 goals a season.

If I was banned I'd do it myself.

Unfortunately that main thread was "accidentally" deleted. Glad I got some of the better quotes otherwise they'd have been lost forever and they'd never had admitted saying them.

Yes Roy the original thread from the start of the season was deleted and the owner of the site made a joke about accidentally deleting it! It was an absolute classic and probably trumps the season before! Well maybe not but it was still good!

Neither club can stand with their chest puffed out and brag about their immense footballing stature, we've both been underachievers for the entirety of any currently living person's life when it comes to major honours.

They won the Rumbelows Cup before a lot of their fans were old enough to notice I suppose, but many so called "little clubs" have done the same since so it's hardly a sign of enormity.

But I'm proud of United and how we've become better than them through gradual hard work, ground improvements, playing staff, backroom staff, coaching staff.

Shout out to them lot shitting the bed every few weeks though, certainly makes us look better.

I'll have a look into it. As Robbo says, there were some gems in there.

I’m in my early 50’s and when I was a kid in the 70’s, my grandad often said to me it’s crazy to imagine United in the 2nd division because at that point we’d spent almost our entire history in the top flight. He said United were always seen as a natural top flight club,

Another weird but interesting fact is United have now spent 42 years in the 2nd division/ championship
And in this division we’ve had a top 10 finish on 80% of the time. No wonder, our fans expect us to have a good season, historically we’re nearly always involved in a promotion challenge in this division. (4 out of every 5 seasons).

I make it 43 seasons (not including the current one).

In that time we have:

- won the title once
- finished second 6 times and got promoted
- finished third 6 times. On each occasion there was no promotion spot for third. We lost in the playoffs twice.
- finished 4th, 5th or 6th 5 times in total. This happened twice in the playoff era. We lost in the playoffs on each occasion.
- finished seventh to tenth 15 times. We've done this 10 times in the playoff era. Usually, but not always, we've been in with a chance of a playoff spot with 5 games to go, but we have fallen short.
- finished 11th 3 times
- finished in the bottom half only seven times. 3 times we went down.

"Nothing seasons" in this division are really rare for us. We've spent 25 seasons in this division in my lifetime and we've only had such 5 seasons - 1977, 1978, 1985, 2000 and 2002. We looked terrible in 2000 under Heath but Warnock rescued us by February and we'd have done better if the team hadn't given up with 10 or so games to go. In 1985 we were poor but there were 4 teams below us who were even worse and relegation wasn't really a serious prospect despite our lowly position.

The classic United season in the Championship is just falling short of either promotion or the playoffs.

It's a generational thing in many ways. No Wednesday fan under 35 has ever seen them in the top flight as a paying adult. A 35 year old today would have been in school the last time Wednesday were in the Premiership. It's an astonishing amount of time when you think about it. Especially when so many of them around that age talk as if they fully remember the glory days. I certainly wouldn't class myself as young but my memories of United and Wednesday both being in the top flight are extremely hazy. I think I'd just left Primary School when we went down under Bassett.

The older generation of fans grew up on top flight football. People below 35 can't realistically say they are used to watching United or Wednesday in the top division.

It pleases me that there are adults walking around who weren't alive the last time Wednesday were in the top flight, but it's nothing to crow about given our recent record. One top flight season in a quarter of a century is pretty poor given the chances we've had to win automatic promotion or win the playoffs.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to their judgement. They always have been a bunch of wrong uns...

Wednesday are the bigger club, won more, bigger stadium, slightly more fans.

Really? How are they 'bigger'? 'Won more'? 'Bigger stadium'? is like saying they've got a bigger ship than us. Trouble is, it's the fucking Titanic. 'Slightly more fans'? Not now. Last season we averaged 26,854. Them? 25,995. This season we're averaging 25,582 and that lot? 23,740.

Where they are ahead is by (still) having the local media in their pocket:

Highest in the table? Alphabetical order? Maybe somebody will get round to changing The Stir's awful website to reflect the true status of the Sheffield clubs. Or maybe they'll go bust.

Don’t forget we only average more than them because we

give tickets away and charge adults kids prices”

Spot on Roy, I’m 60 this year and grew up
watching what was recognised one of the biggest 1st Division derbies. Setting aside rivalries for a minute, it’s a sodding travesty that our city can’t sustain a permanent premiership football club, let alone clubs.

RS are the same when they advertise Football Heaven etc.. Pigs are always first name mentioned. It's them, us, then alphabetical

They are seen as a bigger club by the neutral, in the media. They’ve won more leagues titles. Played European football and have a bigger (but not better, again) stadium. It’s close but they edge it

Worries me a bit that people are still bothered about being the ‘bigger’ club. The likes of Bournemouth and Burnley have proved it means absolutely naff all. It’s nearly as mind numbing as arguing about attendances.

I can’t stress how much it doesn’t bother me. And how much they don’t worry me. They’re wank and we’re not.

This argument is getting silly and I don't know why anyone's bigging them up. Or us for that matter. A club's stature is defined by it's recent history and by that yardstick we're both puny fuckers. In the 50s Preston, Blackpool and Bolton including Finney, Matthews and Lofthouse were winning things and classed as big clubs, Are they now? Are they fuck. Go back further as has been suggested earlier and you've got Notts County. Pah. The pigs haven't been in the prem for 20 years and their record of winning anything for multiples of decades is pathetic. In fact it's nearly as bad as ours. They're not big in anyone's lexicon. Are they bigger than us? Dunno, don't give a fuck. What I do know is that they've got a shit team and ours is better, and the gap is currently widening and will continue to do so for a few years. This argument is nearly as cringeworthy as the one on the other thread as to who's got the best badge.

Not sure that's entirely accurate
Pretty sure I've seen footage of Pearson wearing a lead & muzzle combo with Megson sniffing his Arse & Curran licking his own bollocks

Well, thats tonights nightmare taken care of...................

Since we were relegated from the top flight under Warnock, we've had the higher average attendance in five of the six seasons that we've been in the same division as the pigs (2019, 2018, 2012, 2010, 2009 and 2008).

Before that though, you'd then have to go back to 1971 for the previous time that we'd had more whilst in the same division.

Depends what you define as bigger. As of now there’s really nothing between us. Both been plodding about the 2nd and 3rd divisions with the occasional flirting with the top division for the last 18 years. As long as you think we’re better then there should be no issue really.

Wednesday are a bigger club than us.

That's a fact.

Not by much though.

If you were to list all the clubs in England by size they'd probably be about 15th and we'd probably be about 19th.

They marginally pip us on every criteria you would consider when determining how big a club is.

They've won more major honours than us.
They've got a bigger stadium than us.
They've historically had bigger attendances than us.
They've had more seasons in the top tier than us.
They've played in Europe, we haven't.
They've never played in the fourth tier, we have.

It's impossible to construct an argument as to why we're bigger than them. We haven't got a leg to stand on.

If you really want to wind a Wednesday fan up though just tell them that we've beaten them more times than they've beaten us. It's the only thing they've got no answer for because it's the only thing we've got over them.

I now await all the usual fucktards and knuckle draggers calling me a Pig.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Never tire of these! :D

Today's favourite:
"Some of of their comments about Wednesday are astonishing. They want to believe so badly that we’re just an expensively assembled shambles. They really want to believe that they’ve got this special “team” that somehow trumps ours, just because we’ve spent a lot. Their way of doing it (lower league gems spotted by the scouting mastermind that is Chrissy Wilder) is obviously much better than our way (signing proven players with experience of promotion from this division)"

See what you're getting it...and of course it's correct, however by the same criteria Wigan also trump us on the majority as far as my lifetime is concerned.
