Ah, so at least we’ve managed to come down from ‘garbage’ to just not very good.

You didn’t answer the question though. Do you think Wilder would have someone in the squad if they’re ‘garbage’?
Ah I forgot, Chris Wilder only signs good players.

And since he’s our only left wing cover on the bench and he’s here for the season, yes.

Dowell played left wing back against Boro, had a decent game but was still dropped for Johnson today. Do you think Wilder would do that for someone who is ‘garbage’?

I only caught the end of Wilder’s interview but did I hear correctly when he said “the highlights for me were Johnson, Madine and Hogan” or something along those lines?
I often saw the gaffer clapping some of our good play today, non-more so than the moves involving Johnson. Clearly the gaffer is giving encouragement and trying to give confidence to the squad players because they are highly important to the cause.

Did ok in the end, today. But looks to me like a player who needs to play with a wire, so that someone on the bench can tell him what to do when he gets the ball.

Several times today he received the ball with 30-40 yards of space ahead of him, and just nudged it forward a couple of times until players yelled at him to drive with it. He was the same in the Barnet game.

#fuckingwakeup

I thought he did well today and sent some decent crosses into the box.

Shows how much Wilder has improved the squad. We needed a 10 per cent improvement to reach the play offs and we are exceeding that . Last years JTW signings didn't add much . This year's are adding another 10 per cent. Top 2 is still attainable and the play offs look nailed on as a minimum. Could we have wished for more

He played there because we had no one else, Johnson was loan tied.

However unlike you I have better things to do with my Saturday than to argue about Marvin Johnson.

In other words, you don’t have an answer to my question so you’re trying to find a way out of the conversation.

Don’t worry though, I never expected you to answer it. Go enjoy your evening.

I could answer it, as with Dowell being an attacking player central we wouldn’t want to waste him at wing back when we have a wing back on the bench.

I don’t need to find ways out of conversations with you chief, they’re just that boring I’d rather be cleaning the fish out.

He is garbage. Jordan Stewart did alright defensively once or twice.

You're welcome to use whatever language you want, obviously, but I can't help think the word garbage is is a little hyperbolic.
If you're just trying to ruffle a few feathers, then fair enough - though I don't really think it's necessary.

I personally try never to post anything about a player that I wouldn't be prepared to say their face, therefore to me, a word lkke garbage is reserved for people like Dean Hammond or Nyron Nosworthy.

As for Johnson, I don't think it's unfair to say that he's struggling to adapt to championship football or to say that today, while he tried hard and defended well but made mistakes going forward.
He'll still have a part to play this season though, and hopefully, he'll contribute to the promotion push - I hope we can get behind him and avoid calling him names.

Depends what you’re comparing him to.

Okay we’ll swill garbage, I’ll say in comparison to the other players we have at the club he’s nowhere near as good. Much like Washington. Not his fault and he’s clearly a trier but he isn’t good enough, I haven’t seen him play well yet and I include today’s game in that.

I think we are spoilt with Enda so our views may be a bit squiffed but I still think he’s miles away from Championship level in any position. Boro fans correct on this one I’m afraid.

‘Chief’. I wondered when that would start.

That answer makes absolutely no sense and doesn’t actually answer the question. Do you think Wilder would have a player in the squad (in the team today) if that player was ‘garbage’? Especially when you consider that he had another option, one that did rather well in the last game.

Listen to today’s interview with Wilder and get back to me when you come up with something that resembles a sensible answer.

Have fun with the fish, chief.

Don’t you get bored of being the most argumentative person on the forum?

I'm not his greatest fan as he seems to dither going forward and be unsure whether to take the oncoming midfielder or full/wingback. In that I've not changed my opinion from when I first saw him and said he didn't know where to stand. However, I thought Stevens talked him through that game (which is a positive in our side) and he did well enough. I don't think he is garbage.

Just seen that on youtube. Wilder singles out Johnson for praise. What the fuck do I know?

Maybe he thinks he can release the player that's hiding in there. To be fair if Johnson had set up Hogan for 5-0 that might have changed the way I saw his performance. As it is the jury's out. If he dribbles past five players and batters it into the top corner for a last minute winner on March 4th, the jury may consider reconvening. Till then.

It’s funny that I’m only ever called ‘argumentative’ by those unable to answer my questions. That’s about the 4th time you’ve been unable to answer mine.

We’ll leave it there but what I will say is that post #75 made the exact same point I made and you were extremely quick to agree with that. Seems like you can see my point of view after all.

Good evening

You're right, Enda has been so good this year that anyone who plays in his place is going to be poor in comparison.

I'd also agree that he's probabaly not championship standard, but the fact remains that he'll probabaly be relied upon at some point again in the season.

Lets be realistic. CW is going to, publicly, either praise players or say nothing, save for stating the obvious such as Deano at Villa. For me Johnson was reasonable as a defender against a poor team, but was poor in advanced positions most of the time. Whether we go up or not, I can`t see us trying to sign him on a permanent deal.

I haven’t read all this thread, but I think Johnson is a more than adequate left sided defensive back up and had a good game today.

Unfortunately, he gets unduly slated by many, most of which is seemingly a result of his one naive decision at Rotherham, that cost us two points.

Well on that basis, we surely need to write off Henderson and O’Connell too

Agree, that some people have an agenda after Johnson played a major part in the late Rotherham equaliser
But although I thought he had a decent game in defence, he wasn’t quite up to standard going forward wasting some good opportunities. He’s clearly not as good as Enda but is decent back up, overall played OK so deserves appreciation and support.

Today was probably the best he's played for us, but he seems to struggle with the basics of the way we play as a team. Dowell looked a more natural fit filling in on the left the other day than Johnson has managed all season. Johnson seems to always need a shout from a teammate or the fans to actually do something, and his decision making in general is a bit suspect.

Maybe he needs more confidence to relax a bit in the way he plays and today will help that, but he's been a poor signing that has been no better than Lafferty would have been so far. If he gets an extended run in the team hopefully he can improve on that, today does at least suggest he might have something to offer.
