I'm about to burn myself with the iron for tuning in! I will remember then, that I must not lower myself to that level again!

You do the ironing? Burn away I say.....

Which Dorothy Squires album are you currently listening too?

Never replaced Bob Jackson.
Oh they have imo. He was a bombastic opinionated presenter who ran the show on his terms only. It had to be “praise” or “grumble”, i.e. positive or negative.

There was no room for someone who wanted to have an objective discussion which was neither.

Callers got a few seconds, that’s all. In some ways that forced the issue a bit which was good, but it wasn’t conversational.

To some extent we’ve gone too far down the conversational line. It’s obvious sometimes that they are allowing tha caller to continue talking shite to get them through to the next traffic bulletin on quiet nights!

These Radio Sheffield threads do my head in. If you don't like it, listen to something else whilst driving or doing your ironing as it obviously makes you a danger to yourself and possibly others. It's very simple! Personally I think we are blessed in the region to have such good coverage of our local teams. Without them, when would you get to hear from your teams manager unless they were flying high in what ever league they were in. Doubt we would have heard much from anyone of the national stations during our spell in League one so long may Football Heaven continue for me.

The coverage is excellent. The “celebrities” fighting for attention for their repetitive opinions -and I include Sean the Blade in this who basically reprises the game every match and veers between orgasm and suicide depending on the result.

To a man, you aren’t fucking interesting because it’s always the same shite based on the result. “ I said on Monday” and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we should win, struggle, lose, draw, you boring twats.

He wouldn’t have put up with the dross they have on now.

If Brian, Mick etc are the “stars” shut the program now.

At least he knew what Sheffield was about, that McCarthy bloke has lost a lot of listeners already, he needs the boot.

Spot on.

The format & concept of the show is seriously flawed in many ways - firstly the serial underachieving football teams & their supporters of South Yorkshire & Chesterfield can not & do not manufacture enough thoughtful & meaningful debate to maintain this show for 6 weekly episodes.

Are people really interested in hearing which is Alan from Darfield’s second team? Or where his dog’s ashes are scattered?

Jackson had it right in some respects, 30 seconds and that’s your lot.

Military marching music anyone?

They can only air those that phone up.

There are some good contributors but the majority are not so bright it seems. If they didn’t allow them on there’d be no show!

I find the dullards add to the appeal of the show. It’s not “Question Time” with The Lovely Fiona Bruce - and all the better for it imo!

Corrected it for you.:)

What amazes me is that whilst people slag the show you still get people listening to it, and people wonder why it’s still going.:)
Haven't listened to it midweek for a long time. There is no value anymore as i can get the manager/ Player interviews on the BBC app in the football heaven section as they're generally uploaded pretty quickly. So for a Saturday game - Prematch Wilder: available friday Postmatch wilder: available saturday evening/ sunday morning. In addition they're longer interviews on the app.

There is absolutely no reason for me to listen to football heaven.

Last time i listened it was just full of idiot callers and presenters wanting to cause arguments with them

It wouldn't be so bad if 25% of the show wasn't wasted on travel, weather and news updates.

There must be something new and interesting that they can add to the show during midweek. A phone quiz for a prize/tickets or something like that.

If they stopping phoning up their usual callers for the same old regurgitated drivel and filled the show with more fact and content (you know a bit of sports journalism or more player interviews) then the listener numbers would go up.

As it stands I can see it being aired only on Match days at this rate.

What really annoys me is when it's praise or grumble post midweek match and you want to listen on the way home in the car. What do we get? Fkin cricket and ice hockey reports??? Why???
Just put on content from the night's games or just some reflection from the presenters - not take the easy and cheap way out. I know manger reactions aren't immediately available but Christ on a bike!

Anyway, have a nice day blades and here's to a victory tomorrow at Villa (please :) )

UTMB

I think it was last season before the derby at BL, they had Mick the Pig and Brian the Blade on as special guests.

That says it all really.

Also how Toby Foster is still on the radio is beyond me.

the one that gets my Goat is Ian the Eckington Blade ,Birkhills finest ,Blackpools finest .Ex Liverpool fan
Ian please never phone Radio Sheffield again and the same goes to your pal shaun ,YOUR BOTH sooo BORING ok
Mark, The pitsmoor Pig and Mick, The Rawmarsh Owl are at least entertaining

It beggars belief !

The most unfunny person on radio !

No need, I've noticed your last invoice is overdue. Just get the kettle on, leave a Discovery sized parking space outside, and Vern will take care of the rest................

I think it's important to remember that these are local news outlets and don't have the same funding levels as other news outlets. I can listen to some of the FH presenters and they do control the phone-ins really well, I've not heard McCarthy so can't comment but I didn't like Rob Staton and would turn off if he was on. I also moan about The Star from time to time, however Danny Hall and James Shield write some good articles and on the whole are a good read so I read their articles and enjoy them. On the other hand I read gossip, rumours and other such shite by some other reporters (Biggs included) and wonder how these people are employed. I suspect that a couple of the reporters at the Star are apprentices and therefore maybe should get a bit more slack than I give them.

There aren't many sane people with enough time on their hands to phone a radio show every day so it stands to reason that the ones that do are mental. I'd like to see the hosts hanging up on them more often but it's unlikely to happen so I just don't listen.

Turn off and stop listening...jeeze. People who watch and listen to things and then complain, what is wrong with you. There are plenty of things to do and enjoy in life without wasting your time doing something just so you can complain about it....DO SOMETHING ELSE...and let the rest of us who like it enjoy it!

In the same way I'm aware Australia is big and full of lots of dangerous creatures without ever having visited I'm aware of the quality of calls and frequency with which the same and similar fucktard make them on the phone without listening avidly to it.
I appreciate your concern for my life balance but can assure you it involves many and varied interests and activities.

So you post abusive stuff on non football sites too?

It may surprise you to learn that there are things out there one can be involved in that, and you may want to sit down here, don't involve the internet.
Sorry if that has destroyed your view of the world.

Don't people get upset about nothing.

6 days a week our local radio station puts on a sports program in which there is loads of SUFC news, interviews etc.
that can't be found anywhere else on broadcast media.

They then post most of the most interesting bits on the internet

Yes, some of the callers are crap but you can just turn the radio down, turn over for a minute or listen and laugh at some of the rubbish.

can only think of about 20 million things that irritate me more than Radio Sheffield sports coverage

Pretty good special on mental health they’re having at the minute with Sam Hutchinson to be honest. Very frank views, important topic.

Was going to post a separate thread on this, or in the mental health thread.

I only caught the last 20 mins or so, when I was in range of Radio Sheff travelling back from work, but FPTTP*

*Fair play to the pig

I wish I’d listened. I haven’t managed to be offended by anything this week. Imagine how outraged l am at the moment.
