Not the most interesting of threads but I'm reight bored!

I was just having a look on the wikipedia page and noticed there's a section for famous fans!

Michael Palin is on there. I thought he supported the dark side of Sheffield.

I know wikipedia is open to anyone editing it before anyone says anything! Screenshot 2019-02-01 at 22.33.14.png

Defo a Blade, and has confirmed a few times recently in interviews just to avoid any doubt.

I think he does however come from that generation without a great deal of animosity towards S6, in fact during the 90's he has admitted to cheering them on during their cup escapades. Probably because he was stuck solidly in London with work and rarely if ever got a chance to come back up here, so seeing a Wembley half full of Sheffielders may have been a treat.

My grandad was similar, loved United first and foremost but always wanted the Pigs, Millers, Donny and even Leeds to do well...unless they were playing us of course!

Michael Palin lived near Ecclesall Road as a boy, he is a blade. I remember him talking to a barber, who had no English, in India about SUFC and what he thought the score of the next match would be. It made me laugh. He has mentioned the Blades several times on his travels.

This has been brought up several times in the past.

I heard him being interviewed on Radio Sheffield about 2 years ago, the interviewer asked him to settle once and for all which team he supports. So this is straight from the horses mouth.

He said he was brought up as a child in the Fulwood area and went to Bramall Lane as a boy.
He admitted though that since leaving Sheffield he genuinely wants both clubs to do well.
Said it would be great for Sheffield to see both clubs in the Premier League.

To be fair to him being in the public eye it’s often best to be non controversial and non commital but there’s plenty of evidence he’s a Blade. It sounds like if Wednesday ever reached a cup final he’d probably want them to win, explains why some might think he’s an Owl but he’s a Blade really.

Q. YOU ARE A BLADE BUT YOU FLIRTED WITH WEDNESDAY. WHY?

My first affinities were with United when I was at school in Sheffield. Then
in 1965 I came to live in London and just any victory for a Sheffield team
was to be welcomed.

But I had to “come out” when I was up in Sheffield eight years ago and someone
said: “Come on, you can only support one team.” So since then I have found
it easier to say I am a Blade — though I am still keen to see them both do
well.

Q. WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE BLADES PLAYER?

Tony Currie was great. He was strong and could push his way through and had a
cracking finish.

Q. MONTY PYTHON HAD PLENTY OF FOOTBALL SKETCHES…

We had the philosophers’ match with the great Greek philosophers versus the
German philosophers filmed at Bayern Munich’s ground. I just enjoyed seeing
John Cleese dribbling as Socrates and doing a nice little one-two and
cracking the ball in the net. He was very nimble.

Q. ANY MEMORABLE UNITED TRIPS?

One of the most spectacular journeys was with Delia Smith. I know her husband
and we took their private plane to see Norwich at Blades.

Q. IN RIPPING YARNS YOU KEPT SMASHING UP YOUR HOUSE AFTER BARNSTONEWORTH
UNITED’S LOSSES. DO BAD RESULTS UPSET YOU?

Part of being a supporter is it can make or break your day. It was nice to do
Golden Gordon, whose team usually lose “Eight bloody one!” and he smashes
his house up. It was a good way of getting it out of my system playing that
character.

I was doing the forecasts on Football Focus and predicted West Brom would beat
Arsenal “Eight bloody one”. People took it seriously and asked how could I
get it so wrong. You have to be very careful about using humour to football
supporters.

100% blade. Was always in the boardroom on match days when I worked at BL
