Hope he agrees but I doubt we can match what West Ham will offer him. Come on Fleck, just see this season out and if we don’t go up then fair enough.

If this is the case, then I believe that is a very good sign of our intentions of having a serious push for promotion this season.

“John, you’re on £15k a week, how about we put it up to £20k? Although there’s no guarantee in which league we’ll be in next season”

“West Ham have offered me £50k a week and my boot manufacturers will give me another £10k a week straight off the bat for playing in the prem. Plus it’s London, plus it’s a huuuuuuge stadium and they’ll be in the prem next year and the year after and the year after. They’ve also got club approved fluffers.”

Fulham have made Stefan Johansen available. He's left footed and played quite a bit with Norwood last season, winning promotion, scoring eight goals and assisting nine. Leeds and Aston Villa are interested.

If Fleck goes we couldn't get better than Johansen. I love a Norweigan in the team as well, its been a while! Saying that, I only liked Jan Aage out of the ones we had. We should have played Jostein on the right wing to be fair though, like he did for Norway I believe, and we had Nilsen at left back to do it! Sorry I digress Bergen!

Most importantly I guess is does he want to actually play football or just participate in training for nothing week in week out. We shall see.

"Okay. You're under contract so you'll stay here on the same money"

I think Wilder will be confident in improving Flecks form. I hope he is anyway, not at the level we expect from him for a while now.

The slight issue with Fleck this season is possibly application, hunger and attitude (or maybe he’s reached his level).
In the league 1 season he had more responsibility and more of the ball in advanced areas.
He could afford to take risks because if he gave away the ball we were rarely punished.
He could afford to take shots from distance because we constantly created chances.
He has always been a lower league player with potential, so he was more hungry to achieve something in his career.

This season he doesn’t have the same responsibility.
Norwood sometimes by passes him because he’s excellent at the long pass out to the wing backs.
Also if Fleck makes a mistake the standard is higher so we can be punished.
This means Fleck is more cautious, plays a nice safe/ tidy game focussing on keeping possession.

He still plays well enough most matches but he no longer comes anywhere near a man of the match performance where he drives a game and stands out. Maybe I’m being a bit harsh but don’t think he’s done quite enough to deserve a pay rise.
..........anyway thought he’d just signed a contract giving him a big pay rise?

Good analysis but it’s more than a ‘slight’ issue isn’t it? He’s not justifying a place in the team right now, in my view. That’s a substantial issue for a player who was quite excellent twelve months ago.

...in exchange for improved performances?

I don't think it's unfair to put that out - he's not quite reached the heights of last season.

We need ALL out players to be playing at the top of their game - problem with Fleck, we don't have a replacement.

CW has always advocated balance in a team - he won't play a right footer on the left side of the centre mid.

The management need to get Fleck to step up to past levels.

I doubt we can match what West Ham will offer him

That may well be true IF the CheatinAmmers had actually made an offer.

Call me a suspicious old get, but it seems mighty coincidental that we have 'interest' from a higher level, when a player is in contract negotiations.
I bet Fleck's agent just couldn't believe it falling into his lap like that............

This’ll be to find out how far apart they are on wages, it could be just the start of the leaving process, I don’t believe we can match what West Ham has to offer, and also I gotta say fleck has been solid this season but not pulled too many trees up by his standards..

(You’re all entitled to your own opinions remember)

I don’t think Fleck will turn it down..

We only saw a glimpse of the great talents Big Jostein possessed. Like you, I’ve got fond memories of our Norwegian players (with the obvious exception of Anders Jacobsen).

Out of interest, did Wet Spam ever pay in full that 'other' money that they owed us????

Wilder obviously thinks differently. I'll go with his view.

If Johansen is available he probably goes to the top of the list in terms of left footed replacements. We'd be the best move for him as well.

I agree Fleck's role would suit him well. He's played little for Fulham this season and hasn't been great for Norway either, but when in form he should be a good player at this level.

Some numbers to help describe what he offered Fulham last season:

Stefan Johansen (43 starts, 2 substitute appearances, 8 goals, 8 assists)

The former Celtic midfielder backed up a total of 11 goals in his debut season for Fulham with a further eight strikes this campaign, while also finishing as the Cottagers’ leading assist-maker.

No Fulham player created more chances (92) than the Norwegian international, whose rate of key passes (one every 39.5 minutes) was also a high among his team-mates, though some way short of the averages of Mesut Ozil and Cesc Fabregas (who both created a chance once every 26 minutes) this season.

Johansen had more shots on goal (80) than any Fulham player this season, though 49 of these were from outside the penalty area and only one came from inside the six-yard-box.

Set-piece deliveries are another tool in the box-to-box midfielder’s locker: Johansen will take his fair share of corners next season, while he scored spectacular free-kicks against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest earlier this campaign.

Johansen’s total of 12 yellow cards was, however, the most picked up by any Fulham player this season.

Well it seems you and I agree but I’m pretty sure there’s no unanimity on that.

As for following your lead, I’m always willing to learn. That places me in a tiny minority amongst fellow Blades, most of whom watch our games with their minds boggled and voices strangled.

At the risk of deeply regretting this......

Leave the past where it belongs. Remember the good exciting times and make peace with those memories less pleasing and lay them aside.
We are, in my humble opinion at a watershed moment in our clubs future. This transfer window and the remaining games will define our next decade. I'm more than sure you understand why I say this.

Put your abundant knowledge to positive use and engage in discussion about the best way forward.

Do think this has coincided with Norwood.

He takes the ball off the centre halves and pings it 50 yards to the wing backs, very rarely does it go through fleck.

The only time fleck seems to get the ball is if he wins it himself, or when he's playing triagles with Stevens/O'Connell and this tends to be out on the wing.

Needs to get involved more, but whilst Norwood is playing the QB role, he's limited to a ball winner role.

For the next three years of your career John, do you want your salary paid to you in an envelope or a mercedes sprinter?

Guessing by your profile pic, I'm likely to be less of a fan of the big man than you. He could have been a much better signing than he was though and that I believe was because we played Flo down the middle and it wasn't his best role. But that would mean we had to buy another forward to play in the middle and I'm not sure the budget allowed for that, knowing Reg Brearley was in charge! When we bought Blake we looked a much better side.

Jan Aage though; has there been a more skillful forward that we've ever had?! If so I can't recall one! Left foot, right foot, heading, volleying, strength, long range scorer, the only thing he didn't have was pace, otherwise I believe he'd have played for one of the top 6 to be fair.

Funny line but guessing you're not a fan then Pinchy?! Forgive me, I've not read all the posts on this.

A big fan before this season and would love to be a fan again. I ❤️ Proper footballers.

Sadly, I think his performances have dropped so markedly that he needs to be replaced. I’d be very happy if he were to regain former standards but right now I see a laboured, lethargic, ineffective John Fleck contributing little but giving the ball away and leaving an ocean of space behind him for very good opponents to run into. Swansea and Norwich are two very recent examples but for me that’s been typical of his season with one or two sparks of his former self but not nearly enough.

I’m the first to say support and get behind our players by the way. I say it regularly on here and practice that philosophy myself. I even cheered Monty on match days! Away from Saturday and Tuesday one has to be more reflective and sometimes brutally honest. I can’t ignore what I’m seeing and I do wear my varifocals at the Lane!

Fair do's. That position worked well with David Brooks. ;)

And when West Ham are on the phone to us asking "does the number have to start with a 4 or a 5?" I'm sure we'll resolutely stand our ground & hold him to it. :)

There are two days to go. If we want to hold our ground, we can.

There is no reason to accede to any of his demands if we don't want to.

Of course, as you point out re Brooks, we aren't very good at this.
