To make way for the C**t at the Front , that is . There is an assumption on here that he will only be used as an impact sub when we're failing to break teams down and I desperately hope that this will be the case , notwithstanding the fact that I would have preferred him to be nowhere near our club .

However , I have a deep suspicion that , both from his perspective and that of Cardiff , he's not coming here just to warm the bench and that certain assurances have been given . This being the case and given the way we play , I can only assume that he will often be partnered with Billy up front with either McGoldrick or Duffy being sidelined to make way for him .

I strongly suspect it will be the latter since , despite all the evidence to the contrary , Wilder still does not appear to recognise Duffy's value to the team . As my son said to me early in the season , " Why do I get the impression that he can't wait to leave him out or sub him " ?

There are some on here who take the line " What does it matter if Madine is an absolute arsehole if he gets us to the Promised Land of the Premiership " and I have some empathy with that point of view . However , I see nothing in his track record as a footballer that leads me to believe that this will be the case , but rather that it will turn out to be a retrograde step which will lead to failure and another stain on our club's reputation and one which Chris Wilder , much as I admire what he has achieved for us , has to be held accountable for.

Warnock said something along the lines of the loan to us being "financially favourable" to Cardiff, I don't see him coming to warm the bench.

Did he say the words “to Cardiff” ?

We're paying some or all of his wages. He could clean the bogs and it'd be financially favourable to Cardiff wouldn't it? Since we're saving them approaching ~£20k a week and they don't have to pay whatever appearance bonus they have to Notlob.

And on the original question if Wilder doesn't see the value of Duffy, why Dowell? He knows what Duff does is integral, so brought in back up twice, hopefully Dowell is a success though.

I suspect we are paying a big wedge in wages in the short term & fear that there will be a permancy to the move in the long term. Cardiff certainly don’t won’t him returning.

Yes I think so Sean, would have to hear it again, he said something like (when asked about Gary Madine coming north), "yes it has all happened really quickly and it was financially favourable to us, so I said 'Go and get my old club promoted',.."

The worry about that is that even if we get promoted we’re stuck with a striker even Warnock won’t play ......

Exactly, who does he drop? Goldie and Sharp are doing fine.

We needed pace upfront not a complete a dickhead who hasn't scored for a year.

If we get promoted Sean, it is not a problem, but if we don't.........

There does appear to be a peculiarity about going out on a limb to acquire the services of a striker to win promotion, and also with a view to retaining his services. A player who having been acquired at top dollar by a team in a similar position last season, has been an unmitigated failure at contributing to both their promotion and their resultant battle against relegation. What was it that Otto Von Bismarck said about learning from the mistakes of others?

The interesting thing I found was Wilder subbed Duffy on to play with Dowell. In his first interview Dowell stated that Wilder has talked about playing two number 10s behind a striker, which was definitely a second half experiment yesterday. To play this system you'd probably have an out and out targetman e.g. Madine with the two number 10s floating either side. It's definitely our new plan B.

Warnock isn’t going to come out and say “we’re giving him away for a pittance” is he? I suspect we’ll be paying a lot lower % of his wages than Colin is making out. Financially favourable could be recouping £10k a week for him, it’s very ambiguous and probably said to appease their fans who wonder why they’re paying him to sit and do bugger all.
