Football loyalty is very different to any other form of custom.
Understandably fans will make more excuses for their club than they would another business they use.
Long term fans invest a lot of time, money, and emotion in their clubs. They have a right to strong opinions even if sometimes misguided.
Being upset about signing one of the biggest dickheads in the game we've crossed swords with, isn't like falsely accusing McCabe of pocketing the money.
I don't have a problem whatsoever with fans being happy with signing him.
I do find the turn turtles now trying to justify or make excuses for his past ridiculous however. Many of the same would be having a field day if the Pigs were resigning him.
Equally this North Korea-esque attitude of put up with it and stop moaning or fuck off, is pathetic. The type of approach that comes from the self styled 'lads' or the real big Blades who think they have the monopoly on how to support the club.
I like the fact Wilder is big on doing background checks into players characters and attitudes. I can't believe that he won't have taken that very seriously in this case.
However if he's shocked and upset at the social media reaction like some are suggesting, then he's incredibly out of touch imho as a Blade. Personally I don't believe he will be, especially as I don't think social media is his bag. No doubt mates, or people at the club, will pass on the reaction.
In my near 40 years supporting the club I'm struggling to remember a more divisive prospective signing for this many reasons. We've had ex-pigs, a previously convicted rapist, a convicted woman beater....
With Madine there are multiple concerns not just the one issue.
It may turn out a masterstroke. Let's hope to God it does.
But let's not pretend people are out of order for being disappointed or questioning this.
