As we are near the end of the decade, I thought it might be interesting to get people's views on the best Blades XI over the past 10 years. Mine would be:

Kenny

Naughton
Morgan
Jagielka
Unsworth (for 05-06)

Devlin (for 2000-01)
Brown
McCall
Tonge (for 2001-03)

Beattie
Hulse (for 06-07)

Subs:

Tracey
Murphy
Kilgallon
Geary
Montgomery
Bent
Ndlovu

Its quite a hard one, as we have not had that many players of class, but plenty with lots of guts and heart

I would go for

GK - Kenny
RB - Jagielka
LB - Armstrong
CD - Morgan
CD - Kilgallon
RW - Ndlovu
LW - Tonge
CM - Brown
CM - McCall
CF - Beattie
CF - Bent

Subs

Tracey
Murphy
Naughton
Montgomery
Kazim-Richards
Hulse
Shipperley

How about one for "best" team and one for "favourites"? I'm guessing the two won't be too far apart, but for example Sarbs would never make "best" but would make my "favourites"

I don't think you should be going there..........does Warrington mean anything to you??

That is one of those jokes that ceased to be funny at the second time of telling

The Reverend Jeffrey John on the other hand.............

Mine:

Paddy

Geary Murphy Jags Armstrong

Devlin Brown Monty Ndlovu

Hulse Beattie

Subs

Tracey
Naughton
Morgan
McCall
Shipperley
Tonge
Bent

If people keep posting on this thread, I will work out a "player of the decade" table on the basis of how many times players appear in the selections with 1 point for being included in the first XI and 0.5 poingt for being included as a sub.

Polls close 5pm today!

GK - Kenny
RB - Naughton
LB - Unsworth
CD - Morgan
CD - Jagielka
RW - Ndlovu
LW - Tonge
CM - Brown
CM - McCall
CF - Beattie
CF - Kabba

Kabba, Gray, Bent, Webber, Pesky and Hulse all have an argument for the 2nd striking spot.

When you put this team together 3 things jump out at you:

- we have had a lot of good defensive players
- we haven't had a consistently good midfield for ages
- what a poor return we've had from our forwards: all the good ones were sold too fast, and there are too many who were injury prone or just didn't deliver. By my reckoning only 1 player has scored more than 30 goals for us in the last 10 years - that's pathetic.

Mine are, taking the best performances in those positions over a season...

Kenny (02-03)

Naughton (08-09)
Murphy (02-03)
Morgan (06-07)
Harley (02-03)

Ndlovu (02-03)
Brown (02-03)
Jagielka (06-07)
Tonge (02-03)

Hulse (06-07)
BT Mk1 (07-08)

Joking aside, Rob Ullathorne was the best corner taker I've ever seen play for Sheffield United.
