Would have made the play offs but for his glandular fever.

Grinds my gears a bit this "lower league discovery" bollocks.

He did it on National tv in a Sheffield Derby playing for a club with twice the fanbase of Bournemouth.

Anyone would think they plucked him from Tesco's playing part time non-league!

Grinds my gears too. Man City are hardly lower league are they! Rediculous.

YOU DONT SELL PLAYERS LIKE BROOKS , you give them a fat pay rise and keep them at your club especially when they are as young as he was , plus he was a player the fans loved to watch . Don't watch match of the day tonight because linker and co will be saying what a good player the lad is and what a bargain he was and what a prospect he is , sell sell fuckin sell

Give the lad £30 K per week on the off chance, and tell Sharp Bash et al that they have to remain on £ 8/10 per week ?

I can see that working .

Not our player anymore.

At this point in time is circa £12m good business?

Not really.

Is there a sell on %?

Said this all along. Quality and believed he'd press on.

People citing "well Lavery scored 2 as well" are being daft and they know it, Brooksy is clearly a class act and was under contract, we jumped too soon at the early offers - and the replies will come "but we turned down one". So?

Had him at least £20 million player last year.

We gave him away. He's worth at the very least double what we sold him for just a few months later.

Once in a generation world class player for a championship club and we didn't make the most of it.

I only hope we have a significant sell on which might take us up to £20 million...

Or if she left you for someone richer and more successful

Yeah, but that's where this rubbish analogy falls down isn't it?

Because how am I meant to make reference to her being under contract to you, without sounding creepy and weird?

So you and all the people that liked this think that every club in the land pays all there players the same lol
Players are at a different stages of their career and abilities and age in every club and are payed accordingly.

let's just imagine United held him to his contract and he miraculously didn't let it affect him and he played as well as he is now for Bournemouth

Do you think we'd be any higher up the league than we are now ?

£2K a week? Do me a lemon. He signed a new contract in October last year, try 7 or 8k, maybe more seeing as we knew he was decent and wanted to keep him.

If he'd wanted £2K a week he could have signed a new contract at Walsall.
Firstly you are wrong regarding his salary.

But even if you were correct 8k to £30k a week which I know for a fact is correct. Plus bonuses that you or I could only wank over and the lad has made exactly the same decision to leave as every other 21 year old would.

Stop bleating on about loyalty. There is none in football.

Quote Eddie Howe;

"Two great goals from David, I am very pleased. He showed his qualities in both moments. He is certainly ahead of schedule, I'd say. We've been pleasantly surprised. We knew we were getting a good, technical player.

We liked the player a lot, watching him at Sheffield United. He hadn't played a lot at the back end of last season because he had glandular fever. That is probably why we were able to get him to be honest. If he'd continued to play as he had been, he'd have gone beyond us"

How flippin annoying is that...

Brooks wanted to go and we needed the money because our owners decided to create a dog's dinner at the top of the club.
Hopefully we've got a decent sell-on as he'll likely go for big money sooner or later.
The bigger problem is if the ownership carries on in a mess then we'll have to find more players to sell next summer.
Not sure there's much left to sell for decent money, possibly bar O'Connell.

He’s gone FFS time to move on!!!

Do we have to revisit this every time Brooks scores or does a nice dribble?
All it does is cause arguments and splits when we should be getting behind those players we do still have.

This is a long way from the worst piece of transfer business our club has done in my time supporting them.

I don’t see any other purpose in threads like this than to wind Blades up about something they can do fuck all about bar argue with each other.

He’s gone. He was a good player, who would have been good for us this season but we’ve no fucking money and we needed to strengthen so we sold him to do that. We got the most anyone would offer. To suggest otherwise is nonsense.

We should be happy that he’s doing well because it means we’ll get add ons, which will provide more much needed money, and maybe a sell on fee in the future, when we’ll probably still need money, not fucking arguing amongst ourselves like it was some of us that decided to sell him. Just fucking leave it now.

He's continuing to look more and more like an integral player for them. Wilson, Brooks and King offering all the threat going forward.

I think Fraser might have something to say about that.

But no one’s saying he’s shit.

Your so wrong , we were a different team when Brooks was on form , as for decent money your havin a laff , remember when we totally hammered the pigs , Brooks was instrumental in that game , when he played his 1st game for Wales he won man of the match ,when he came off and sat on the bench they announced it on the tannoy , and nobody knew who he was , the player next to him asked him is that you ! I bet they know who he is now , YOU DONT SELL PLAYERS LIKE BROOKS , you give them a fat pay rise and keep them at your club especially when they are as young as he was , plus he was a player the fans loved to watch . Everyone knows that Brooks was quality Wavy, that's why he went to the PL! He said he was ready when he got the move and the displays for Bournemouth proved it. All this stuff of don't sell your best players is quite frankly totally unrealistic! Every team in the Championship has to sell its best players, its just when you do that and to maximise the sale of that player. If Brooks had played and scored as many as Maddison for Norwich then we'd have been able to demand as much as they got for Maddison. But Brooks was injured for three months and scored 3 goals last season to Maddison's 14 and Norwich weren't up to much last season either, whereas we were right in the mix.

With that in mind £12m or thereabouts wasn't a bad fee. I agree with Brooks in the side we'd be a better side but that's a very obvious statement. Its whether it was right to sell Brooks and if the player wants to leave - and that was what was said by Wilder and I trust Wilder - then it makes it hard to keep onto them. As for giving him a big wage increase, are you seriously suggesting we can afford to match what Bournemouth have offered him and the fact that they can offer him PL football and he want to play for Wales as first choice and where better to play that in in the PL. I might add that Bournemouth won't keep onto him for long either.

We can keep arguing this after every game but quite frankly what's the point! He's gone and its boring debating this and every time he plays well do we have to have a post about him!?

He's a funny shaped headed sh*t stirrer. A fully grown man who gets homesick when leaves Bournemouth and hasn't got the fibre in his fabric to step up to a big job. I suspect that he's on the wind up, and if he's not, then i'm even less interested in his views. Pr*ck.

Maybe it’s a consequence of not living in Sheffield or not knowing too many Unitedites, but most discussions I’ve had with fans of other Premier League clubs have focused less on questioning how we could sell him or sell him at the price we got, and much more on questioning why their own clubs didn’t take advantage of getting him when he was available. It’s been a repeat of the conversations re: Maguire when Leicester got him from Hull for a very similar fee.

I don't know why so many long term fans are surprised.

At Sheffield United the rule is we're only allowed very good players every 20 years or so.

I suspect that with both the players mentioned, they were scouted a great number of times by other clubs and for whatever reason, either deemed not to be good enough or no better than they currently had on their books.

Maguire has improved season on season as a player at higher & higher levels, which is rare. Although I think that he's dropped a b*llock by not leaving Leicester after the WC. He needed to be playing continental football after his showing and at his age.

When the Bournemouth bid came in for DB, if there had been any other interested parties, it would've prompted counter bids. It didn't.

Eddie Howe's idea that somehow Bournemouth have pulled off a master stroke due to DB's illness is pure fantasy. The reason why they bought him in the summer is due to the fact that either no one else wanted him or that no one wanted him in excess of the money that Bournemouth bid. In essence they over paid for him and appear to have got lucky.

Shame no one else shared your valuation otherwise we’d have got £20m for him. It’s quite simple saying he was worth that but if the market wasn’t paying it. I’m assuming that the ‘Berkshire Blade player valuation model’ isn’t a viable second career option.

Yes, absolutely. There are nineteen clubs in the PL thinking ‘how did we not spot him?’

All this we would be better with Brookes in the team is neither here or there.

Wilder preferred to sell the player and get some cash to strengthen in other areas.
That’s pretty much it.
When the bid was accepted the Brookes knew he had to go.

Whether the players agent pushed it then why not. The chances were he would not play every week for us this season either.

Yes, he is worth more now because he has proved his quality at the highest level. He played 12 games last season........ how much did you expect to get.
