Connor Washington runs him a very close second. Johnson is poor with the ball but I can't compare Washington in that respect cos I don't think I've ever seen him touch the ball.

Washington is unique. I have never seen a player try so hard to get a touch of the ball only to fail time and time again. Still he's a good egg I suppose.

Washington has an assist and has hit the bar with an overhead kick recently, nearly scored against Blackburn too. He's not tearing it up but he's better than what we had last season on the bench and is young enough to improve.

Poor substitutions from Wilder tonight, thought we'd turned a corner with the Duffy at halftime one at Reading but we're back to inneffectual, it's not his fault really when we have no game changers but the kitchen sink approach never fucking works, and Stevens is routinely one of our best players, replacing him with Johnson is borderline offensive.

Coutts came on to win midfield but if anything we took a step back.

And why not put Smith on? At least he'd want it. Washington + losing = hoofball tedium.

Thought the same. Perfect opportunity- if he does nowt, nobody blames him and forget he ever came on anyway. No damage to the lad. But theres always the chance he gets a chance and he’s the hero. He would have given something a bit different to a tired forward line and no doubt run his knackers off chasing stuff down. Also, it might have lifted the crowd a bit, unlike the rolling of eyes and general groans Johnson received.

All the substitutions tonight were puzzling, but the worst was bringing on Johnson in the 89th minute, what on earth was the point ? It may as well been Tyler to blood him for the last few moments.

For my money, Fleck needs a rest, as does Duffy. Coutts is nowhere near the mark and may never be the player he was. How long can we go on relying on Basham ? Sooner or later, he is going to get knackered too. Norwood is a great addition, but he's going through a dodgy patch, too. I thought we missed Leon, but then again, it may be a while before he's fully match fit again as he seems to carrying cumulative injuries/fatigue.

The team as a whole looks tired, and it's clear we need fresh blood. The worry is the funds aren't there, and loans, in the position we're in (still challenging) isn't the answer, because whoever we get, will be dropped into the deep end, which will be a big ask, depending on whether or not they have recent match experience and are fit/up to the challenge.

As much as I like Wilder, his weakness is the subs and the timing of them.

I think it’s a bit harsh to fully assess Johnson on a few minutes each week. That’s not to say I think he is good, but how much impact can someone realistically make in a few minutes?
