That’s exactly what I believe the situation is
For some spending 5 million is substantial as it’s the most we’ve ever spent in any January transfer window
For other 5 million is nothing because we’ll really struggle to buy a player guaranteed to be better than what we have.
As I said our best hope is probably a loan but that’s easier said than done.
Previously we’ve tended to target players under the radar who have potential and CW hopes to get the best out of them

But if we want a top Championship player then don’t see how it can be kept under the radar.
Think those types of targets receive media attention with plenty of clubs chasing their services.

£5 is five times what one of the buggers has put in.

Another good sauce says Wilder's main beef is about not knowing what he's got to spend in January because of the battle at the top.
May well equate to there not being any money (why would either owner commit much in the current circumstances?) but he doesn't even have that clarity at the moment.
The team's operating at close to its maximum with the resources we have and why should he carry on beyond the summer when in reality results and performances are likely to slide.

That's what I'm thinking. We've had £4.5m from the Brooks money and borrowed £7m against the rest of it. If CW had canything left last TW - Waghorn? - then it's hard to see more than that £5m or so would be spent without further investment.

I think that from the snippets revealed lately about Woodburn, this one's now starting to unravel. The timing of this is no coincidence. It seems he was a major spend last summer with the loan fee, wages and penalties and this will be a major factor in determining how much we have (or haven't) got to spend in the JTW.

There are no financial penalties in the Woodburn deal.

It's frustrating as we only need a couple of quality players to have an outstanding chance of automatic promotion. Next season Clarke, Sharp, Duffy, Mcgoldrick, Henderson etc will be a year older or gone, and we'll be looking at needing half a dozen quality players. Signing players is always a gamble financally, but it's hard to imagine a more auspicious climate to gamble in, given our squad is low cost and only needs tweaking.
