Henderson Top Drawer

If Man Utd had any sense they'd cash in on De Gea next summer and get Henderson in goal.

He's made so many saves that any other keeper we've had for years gets nowhere near.

They will spend about £40m on Pickford or another foreign keeper.

Hendo will be on loan at Burnley or the like.

It will prove how big they are though and that's the main thing.

Should probably give Pickford at least 300k per week as well.

Can we fuck afford him. I don't think that's even a reflection on our budget either, which is a rarity.

He's playing Premier League football next season, so we'll have to hope we can actually go up and get him on loan.

GK is just as worrying a situation as strikers for me going forward assuming we can't keep Henderson. He's going to leave a huge pair of shoes to fill.

I love the guy but is he a bit theatrical with some of his saves ? A real showman !!

Still he kept us in it today and won us a point, which is a depressing comment to make after playing Rotherham.
Does it matter? I think the kids call it "swag".

Thing is though, some goalkeepers are theatrical and don't make the saves.

Rather have someone doing scorpion kicks (think he's got it in his locker) and saving it than someone going full stretch, missing because he was in the wrong place when the shot was hit, and then beating the ground in a fit of pashun.

No no it doesn’t matter ! It all looks very impressive to be fair. Best keeper we’ve had since Paddy so I’m all for it ! If my post came across as having a dig, that wasn’t the intention
Oh right, yeah sorry I thought it was a moan. He is flair player to say he's a keeper but il tell you what... We lose that game today with any other keeper in the league between our sticks.

Absolutely, proper shot stopper and like bromtom said in his reply to me, he can save them all with his head if it keeps it out ;) it was just a couple of the saves today we had a little laugh at, admittedly after the replays, because live they look fantastic and get the crowd going !

That depends. There was one save he made today that he could’ve caught but he made it look ‘theatrical’ and tipped it over the bar instead. If they’d have scored from the resulting corner then yes, it would have mattered.

I’ll also add (as unpopular as it will be) that as good as he was today (he undoubtedly won us a point) he didn’t make any saves that I wouldn’t have expected him to make.

he is the best blade keeper in my life time, putting Kelly into second and kenny 3rd.

Top drawer indeed. Rotherham could have had 4 or 5 today [whereas we should have had 3] but I reckon he has saved us at least 5 or 6 points already this season.
If we go up then we have a chance of signing him, absolutely no chance otherwise and Wilder will already be scouting for a replacement next season.
If Cardiff get relegated I would go after Etheridge, a player we were linked to previously and I wouldn't imagine he would be in a completely different orbit, financially.

I disagree in both points.
Congrats on finding the negatives on our one positive yesterday though.

Where’s the negatives? I said he was good and that he undoubtedly got us the point. You do know it’s perfectly possible to think that Henderson was our man of the match but also think that none of the saves he made were world class, don’t you?

Which of those saves would you have not expected him to make? It’s an honest question. If you disagree then that’s fine but at least provide an argument.

What do you disagree with on the first point? If a keeper makes a ‘theatrical’ save and parries it out for a corner, instead of catching it, thereby keeping us under pressure you can’t see how that might not be such a good thing?

Long, Moore, Simonsen, Blackman, most of our keepers since Kelly don't make those saves.
90% of our play was shite yesterday I just find it odd that out of all of the displays you pick apart our best player and probably the best keeper in the division.
If you want my opinion on whether he's theatrical I'd say yes.
Do I think he could have caught any that he tipped over? No.
Do I reckon his decision making ie whether to tip, catch or punch- is fantastic? Yes I do.

Where have I picked it apart? That’s a bit of an overstatement.

If any of the keepers you mention hadn’t made those saves yesterday they’d have been slated for it.

The best save of the game was made by their defender, when had cleared McGoldricks shot off the line.

As I say, they were all good saves but not one of them made me think “wow, I can’t believe he’s saved that”

Deano is top draw and the reality is he will go onto play for a bigger club than us - whether that's Man United or somewhere else.

If we got promoted we might be in with a shout of him staying with us for a further year. If we dont, then no chance.

As to my view as to him been better than Kelly, I agree he has a long period of consistency to go, but on shot stopping and distribution, he is already better. Kelly command his area better, was fantastically constant and very professional, especially compared to Tracey who was potentially the best stop stopper. Not included Mel in my calculation as tragically he only got to play 9 times for us.

Great shot stopper. I think he needs to work on claiming crosses though.

Are you Simon Moores agent? I think you’re being a bit harsh to be honest, the instinctive save with his right arm after their player struck it well from about ten yards out, through a crowded penalty area, although straight at him was pretty special. Granted the first tip over was a bit ‘Hollywood’ but I don’t think he could have caught it. The second similar tip over, where he had to move his feet a lot more, was another great save.

I’ve never really bought into the ‘Henderson Hysteria’, I think he’s been a good reliable keeper since he came to us. But yesterday was by far his best performance and his MOM was earned due to his goalkeeping, not his goal celebrations and was richly deserved.

Tell Si there’s no need to worry though, there’s no hope that we’ll ever sign him permanently ;)

I haven’t said they weren’t great saves, I’ve said he didn’t make any saves that I wouldn’t have expected him to make.

I suppose my expectation levels of what a decent keeper should be able to do are just higher than others’
