A Player accumulating five cautions will be automatically suspended for one first-team competitive match if he has accumulated those five cautions in (up to and including) the number of matches in the relevant League as set out in the table below:

League League Matches
Premier League 19
EFL 19 (Brentford match on 27th November)
National League 23

As we know Basham has a one match ban against Forest.

McGoldrick has 4 so will serve a one match ban if he gets another booking before the 19th game (we have played 15) so will miss the pigs match if he gets booked against Forest.

3 Bookings for Stevens, O'Connell and Freeman (so as long as they don't get booked twice in the next four matches they won't serve 1 match bans) after these 3 we are ok.

Bannan has 6 bookings and served his one match ban- I think he may pick another up trying to chase Fleck around next Friday.

bans take effect 7 days after the 5th yellow card, so McGoldrick wont miss the Derby if hes booked against forest.

Has the rule changed from last season ? Was the next game for a few years ÌIRC

I believe that’s just for red cards, gives you time to appeal them. Used to be 14 days.

It says the next game in any competition. In effect you could pick up a 5th in a league match and be banned for a cup match or vice versa.

Thought it was competition specific now. So five means missing next league game and red in cup game means missing next round or following season in same cup if knocked out.

Forest played Leeds last week and their important midfielder Colback picked up a booking and I’m sure it said on the BBC site at the time that his 5th booking means he misses the Sheffield United game next week.

However if the mid week EFL game to Burton counts then he’s available to play against us which means this rule is open to abuse.

Forest always planned to rest all their main players in the EFL cup.
So anyone close to a ban could be told to deliberately pick up a yellow card, then they miss the Burton match instead of a vital league game.

So effectively there’s no punishment which can’t be right. Does anyone know if the EFL cups games count towards suspensions.

It's always been open to abuse. I remember Michael Brown deliberately getting a booking for us so he missed a less-important match and was then available for a bigger match, and openly smiling about it.

Yes, v Stoke. Banned for 2 games two weeks later meaning he would be playing in the FA Cup semi
