Duffy should have come off for Coutts. Billy was on his tod in dangerous areas waiting for a ball in all game and they took him off, McG for Leon and I think we might have done something.

The main issue was the style though. Playing for a point from 45 onwards, fuck that noise. Anyone that's watched United knows that we don't do shut up shop, at best we close 2 checkouts and put a wet floor cone out.

I'm furious to be honest. Absolutely shit in the second half, outstanding in the first.

The issue today is tactics. We came out second half to play for the point. This must be instructions from the manager because professional footballers don't decide to change tactics off their own bat. We sat off them, let them play through us, and got punished.

Really don't think we can blame the subs who got thrown into a team that had already lost its way.

It's only so frustrating because we showed in the first half how much better we are than them.

Don’t really blame the subs. From the moment they stepped on the pitch for the second half they weren’t at it, so we had to try and change it somehow.

Duffy had a poor game by his standards, we really, really need back up or a different option to him. We rely on his guile and creativity too much. If Woodburn isn’t up to it then we need to spend big in January on Luke Freeman to have a viable alternative.

For me that's Wilders weakness his substitutions are crap.

Duffy wasn’t having a good game. The problem with taking him off however is that we went to a flat midfield and the space that Duffy was previously occupying was now being occupied by Derby players, there was absolutely no link between our Midfield and Strikers. The other thing it did was take the space away from Norwood and him and Coutts didn’t seem to know exactly where they were playing.

Clarke and Washington weren’t on long enough to make any difference, especially with the service, though it’s fashionable to dislike them at the moment (especially Clarke). I would’ve made the Sharp/Clarke change myself, not because Sharp needed taking off but something needed to change. If Duffy hadn’t gone off I’d have taken McGoldrick off instead of Sharp but without Duffy on we needed McGoldrick to drop deeper.

Normally I take accept a defeat fairly well, it happens, but that has completely pissed me off. Wilder not talking to the team at half time? What was that about? We were cruising that first half. I could accept it if Derby had played really well but they haven’t, we’ve just given them the win.

The fact he never had a squeak at goal wasn't down to him. Looked to me like he was in the right places at the right times, but the service to him was well, well below standard

The only quality ball in the box I can remember throughout the whole match resulted in a goal

Honestly think that Wilder has gone "I'll show them" to the media who say we only play one way, and changed it so we could try and be Happy Shopper Boro and it's not worked at all.

That wasn't United in the second half. Unbelievably poor.

The second half reminded me of the Hull away game last year. We looked utterly lethargic and couldn’t even make simple short passes properly.

Shame, because between the 2nd and 45th minutes, we were exceptionally good.

I could not agree more, dreadful 2nd half I was just waiting for them to score. The difference between a £5m player and a freeby. But the service was v poor for the strikers, Freeman and Stevens never got anywhere near their box in that 2nd half. Did we create a chance in the 2nd half, can’t sat I remember one!

VV disappointed, I don’t mind losing but that was truly awful for the first 5 minutes and all the second half. As good as the Villa game was in the first half this was the opposite in the second half.

I would have taken McGoldrick off for Coutts, left Sharp on with Duffy behind him. The extra man in midfield may have strengthened us and helped regain control of the game, while keeping Duffy on with less defending to do would also have been worth a try.

Don’t know why we have some players who can do no right in many fans eyes and an equal number who can do no wrong. If Duffy had been able to put a decent cross in today or pass to a man in a better position we could have scored 3 in the first half. That doesn’t make him a bad player all of a sudden, he was just having a bad day, but it does explain why he was taken off.

I’ve not read the thread because I’m pissed and pissed off. We don’t have any decent subs to bring on to replace the usual top 3 so no subs we make can ever be bad. Poor squad is more appropriate.
