Loyalty Points debate

This has probably been done to death but I thought I'd dig up the corpse once more for an airing....

You'll see from the linked thread that TomSUFC25 is asking to use someone else's loyalty points so he can go to the Forest game. What's everyone's thought on this?

https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/forest-away.66783/#post-1828600

Here's mine if anyone is interested...

I admit, I'm going to the Forest game as a mate who I work with knows quite a few fans with well over 40,000 points. They don't go to all the away games and are quite happy for them to be 'pooled' to be used by others. The advantage for them being that it increases their own loyalty points even though they can't attend.

This is my fifth consecutive season as a ST holder, I can only get to a handful of away games, but otherwise I'd still have no chance of going to the Forest game if I used my own loyalty points which are still less than 20,000.

I know this is considered 'unethical' but what chance do fans like me have of going to away games as the loyalty points system is effectively a case of 'the rich getting richer....'

I think the club should have a re-think as soon you'll be needing 70,000 points to have any chance of going to an away game, especially as those with the points are making sure their points keep getting topped up.

I should point out that wherever possible, I try to use my own points as I did for the Blackburn game. I even waited until they went on General sale so I could get one for my mate from Wigan. I also try to go to games that aren't going to be so popular so I went down to QPR midweek last season. Even so, this isn't going to boost my loyalty points to the point where I can always get a ticket.

Anyway, I hope TomSUFC25 got sorted. We should encourage as many fans as possible to go to support the team.

I don't have a problem with people doing it.

I don't think you understand what 'safe standing' is. It is not a return to terraces.

For a standing match, the rail seats are simply paddlocked back out of use, so that everyone stands. Then for games where seating is needed (eg UEFA competitions etc) the seats are unlocked.

Safe standing as it exists in Germany effectively replaces one seat with one large 'safe' standing area. There would be NO increase in capacity.

In places where safe standing has already been introduced, it almost doubles the capacity of that area. Not sure what restrictions the government would impose here though.

I think a 10 or 5 year cut off of the oldest years points is the best way to eventually deal with this issue. Otherwise eventually our away fanbase will be like the cast of Dad's Army!

I have just under 45k points so the system works in my favour......however i do see the side of the argument that how are people who are at the bottom end of the points scale ever going to catch up. I used to follow England home and away and i think we could maybe install a similar system to the one that the FA used for official members. Basically, 70% of the ticket allocation was processed on a points (caps) system just like the one we have in place. The other 30% were then allocated using a random raffle system where you applied and possibly got lucky should you not have enough points to fall into the 70% bracket. That way you have a chance of a ticket and also you'd pick up the loyalty points if you got a ticket.

It still wouldn't solve the issue but it's at least a fairer shot at getting a ticket should you be on the lower end of the points scale.

The real point is as someone mentioned earlier, there will only be a handful of away games all season that will sell out very quickly with high levels of points, these games also seem to have low limits on away fan numbers like Forest, Wednesday and Rovrum
So for the majority of fans there are loads of away games that they can attend through out the season
Clearly the higher up the league we are the demand also increases significantly

We’ve been practicing “safe standing” at away games for years so nowt would change there then!!

But then, we actually worsen the problem, with effectively equalising more people on the maximum points.

Plus, like dad's army, they'll begin 'dropping off' :)

Where is the problem for you personally then? Despite not having enough points you've got a ticket for Forest.

To top it all after getting around the weaknesses in the system you still want those with double your points earned properly, to have their total reduced.

Do you want free travel on the away coaches as well, a nice lunch, be a mascot? F*** me.

I wonder who'd moan most if the cut off point was the initial L1 season and points earned before that were scrapped plus play off ticket points, semi final points etc
were taken off too?
Or anyone having an ST since then got an extra thousand points per season and away points were trebled?

My biggest gripe is that the younger blade is being left behind (as in my daughters case). How on earth are they supposed to catch up? She goes to the more obscure games (QPR, Bristol City etc) but then misses out on the more popular ones (unless points are “borrowed”) Catching up this way is a painfully slow slog and she realises the borrowing of someone’s points does her no favours but it’s a “live for now” attitude the younger ones have.
Maybe a slight adjustment in the amount of points dished out might help?
For example. 50pts were given to Donny and Bradford pre season night away games with nothing to play for. 100pts for Millwall, QPR, Boro (red button) and Bristol City away yet we hand out 100 pts each for Hull in the Carabao Cup and Inter at home as well!!
Live, less attractive televised games and matches with further to travel/pre season should be well rewarded. Tickets are fairly easily obtainable and it separates the occasional Blade from the “must see” Blade even at a younger level. Who would begrudge 300pts for those that travel to Reading live on sky? Or 250 pts to Ipswich the week before Xmas? Everyone has to earn the right but let’s give them a chance at least

I also propose that anyone who attended Bury away during the Madkins reign should automatically be awarded 50,000 points for that game alone! :D

Gets my vote!

So does this! Count me in :D

Should be double bonus points for attending the Southend away game that season as well ( the only highlight being the Dean Hammond song).

Depends.... what do you call a 'nice lunch'?

Yeah, Coco.
Smoke dem fuckers.

I was at the BDM in '79 and the Walsall game in '81 so I deserve 50,000 points just for them fuckers

As was I and Bury under Madkins... dish up them points!!

Don’t get me started on Oldham (3k at home cup game) Vale under Heath, all the play off and semi final Cup defeats, Chelsea relegation game, Plymouth away when it was postponed when reaching Exeter, Plymouth away night game when I arrived at ht and they still charged me full price to see us lose 1-0.
Not even going mention Newport and others!!

Lost 4-1 at Newport

I like many others are at an advantage of this system. Even though I probably only get to about 5 or 6 away games a season, I’ve had a season ticket since loyalty points were introduced therefore that’s a healthy points gain every season without needing to go away every week.

Where the biggest problem is is people wanting to take their kids etc who won’t have as many points. Maybe a way of alleviating that is if you know there’s a group of you wanting to go together, you somehow nominate who’s going in advance and then split the total of the points between them for that game. That way, one person may have to give up first dibs but it doesn’t mean you have to wait sweating on them selling out.

Another idea could be instead of taking the last 5 years, there is a system whereby the longer trips last longer on your membership than others. So for example you get say 100 points for going to somewhere like Bristol one week and then 100 for Villa for example but the Bristol points last 5 years but the Villa points last 4?

Either way as others have mentioned it would only get worse if we went up again.

Out of all those games only Bury away counts as all the others are before the L1 cut off date I think.

So 50000 to all of us who were there is perfectly acceptable.
Never mind the points. It’s a compo claim for the PTSD we all suffered after watching it until the Messiah arrived

Taking your point slightly more seriously though Sean Thornton , I have got my ticket for Forest, though I'd have rather been able to acquire via my own points and therefore also increased my points. I guess the main point I was trying to make is that people like me are never going to be in a position to get tickets for those big games legitimately as they are taken by those with exponentially more points, who will continue to do so and I'll never be able to catch up.

On a less serious note, I now can't believe I missed the offer of f***ing you as well!

Contrary to some opinion, I'm not gay . Sorry. Don't give up though! ( and no, I don't help them out while they're busy) not there's anything wrong with it, other than it making your eyes water.
