If we were playing at home on the back of an unbeaten 25 match run some would be saying, "well it can't go on forever, somebody is going to beat us, why not Blackburn on Wednesday ?"

Blackburns home record is immense unbeaten at home in 25. I'm sure wilder won't think it will be as easy as some on here think.........

We have the (joint with Leeds ) best away record in the division with 9 points from 5. So Blackburn can stuff their so-called unbeaten home run up their collective arse.

How many of those games were played at this level? I'd guess no more than 5. So what is the relevance of that statistic I wonder?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it will be easy. I don't think any game is easy. But for heaven's sake, looking back at a series of games, mainly in a different division, from which they have been promoted from and drawing conclusions on a totally different set of circumstances?

All we know is, it won't be easy. But we are good. And the table suggests we are better than them.

Stiff test. No place for a 5 minute power nap. Need to be at it for the fulll 90 minutes. Much as I hate Leeds they put a full shift in at the Sty and that has to be our benchmark.
Same team to start and on the fromt foot from the get go.
Another 3 2 ?
Your my wife now Dave.[/
We certainly have the capability of unlocking there defence and scoring goals against them. However the same could be said of Blackburn and we need to defend for 90 mins, not the 85 of the last two games. Will be there to support the lads as I haven’t been to Blackburn since the 0-0 quarter final. 3pts and a clean sheet would do wonders for us
Very rare is there a game we’re a team doesnt have some part of the game spongebob!

I'm looking forward to seeing him play, as well Palmer and Armstrong, who I wanted us to sign, and who would've been an improvement on what we ended up with.
Armstrong didnt start yesterday and Palmer was an unused sub. We dont need players who are not good enough to get a starting place at Blackburn

No, we need Ben Woodburn and Conor Washington don't we?

I doubt Wilder will make any changes after the Birmingham experiment. Pick the same team until they stop performing.

I can still see Wilder making 2 or 3 changes with an eye to Saturday’s game tbh, as I think he’ll have considered the issue in the Birmingham game being that he made too many changes, rather than he made any changes. I’d personally go with the same XI though and then make changes as needed for Saturday.

I hope Wilder dont go into Wednesday nite squad experimental mode again, please play the winning team again and when we are 3 nowt up then bring the squadies on.

Thought the same but playing a match only 2.5 days later surely means a wise manager rotates and uses his squad. Remember McGoldrick is prone to injuries, if we over use him then we could lose him for many weeks.

Wilder will have loads of data and medical reports regards energy levels and injury probabilities on every player.
I suspect Wilder will play a slightly weaker side in order to ensure a decent side is put out against Hull.

No games are easy Sheffsteel, but I think Blackburn, off the two, is harder.
Play the same team, tinker against Hull, if we must.

Is there only me in the world who doesn't understand why a professional footballer can't play 2 games of 90 minutes in a week? Surely they can play and simply not train as much. Most of them will get a rest after Saturday anyway as it's the international break. From a player's point of view, surely you just want to play every game. I'd play the same team and then use the subs if players are looking tired.

Professional players can easily play 3 times a week BUT the evidence proves that it’s impossible to perform at their optimum.
Think the real issue is the current trend of playing a high pressing game.
This tactic breaks down and becomes non effectual if 1 or 2 players can’t keep up the intensity.
All clubs now have access to high level computer fitness/ energy levels data, they will know who can handle regular matches played at full intensity and who needs a rest.

Also some players tread a fine line between being injured and being fit to play. Some are always carrying slight knocks and never 100% fit, they can be given injections to help them play. That tiny bit of extra rest might prevent a major injury from occurring. This particularly applies to McGoldrick who has a history of injuries possibly due to over playing and not being allowed time to fully recover.
Also older bodies take longer to recover and we have some golden oldies up front ha. Prevention is better than cure.

After the Hull game, the squad (apart from a few) get 2 weeks off due to the international weekend.

Can we not "manage" our players with these breaks in Sept/Oct and Nov?

Mcgoldrick is becoming a key player, particularly away from home where he has the intelligence to drop deeper.

Perhaps same team v Blackburn and perhaps a tweak or two v Hull (Clark up top as got 4 last season v Hull)

UTB

Been mentioned that many of McGoldrick's injury concerns could have been a result of the long commute between Nottingham and Ipshize. That 3+ hours in the car means a tightening up of tendons and muscles that tear more easily when put under the intense strain of playing a modern game of football.

It's likely that the far shorter commute and the extended time he has to stretch out and recover will help him spend more time on the pitch as opposed to inside the treatment room.

He seems to be lasting the full 90 and is still working hard all the time he is on the pitch. Signs are that this is working.
Winner winner chicken dinner

Interesting theory, it does make sense.

Can't take credit for it. It was something discussed in the media when asked about his treatment record.
And, yes, it does make a lot of sense. We all know how stiff you feel after a long car journey. Doing that just after training will not be a wholesome experience.
This move to the Blades could turn out ot be the best spell of his career. Here's hoping.

I've mentioned previously (when all the doubt was going on during his pre season trial with us) that I thought he was by far the best player on the Ipswich side when they played at Bramall Lane last season. Constant threat, always showed for the ball, great control. He seemed to be shouldering all that was good from their performance in a tight 1-0 for us when Basham scored a header after moving to RWB for the winner.

Coutts absent from today's U23 squad. Another bench appearance at Blackburn? Or even a start giving Duffy a rest ?! and playing Fleck in his role??? Probably the former.

We'll have none of that shouting here!

It surely must help the fringe players to get/keep match fit if they get odd games now and again. They'll be much more reliable when they have to come in of neccesity to cover for injuries and suspensions for example than if they never get a game.

I can quote personal experience of this although not football, stick with me it'll seem relevent by the end.
Over the summer I was (running) racing every week and twice some weeks, as you take an easy day before a race and a recovery day afterwards over a period of time your performance falls away as to get to peak you need to be putting in the sessions daily. Think of that now as a pro footballer, probably does the same so 4 days a week without full on training.

Fuck off, Bill. Unless you live in Hadfield, you can't quote that show.

Now you are my wife, Bill

;)

First away game in 12 years. UTB! (And I will buy you a pint, Bill)

I can recommend the Stop and Rest. Last went there before the 0 0 penultimate game under Basset when we went up to the top flight.
It's a local pub for local people.

Last time I went to Ewood park we lost 6-1 Edwards scored his 200th goal .I was only a youngster I have vivid memories of us doing the conga at 6-0 down .Unfortunately I've double booked (teleman at the plug ) thus is one I would have made the effort for ..UTB

Got to be unchanged for me, keep the momentum and the winning side, for what will be a tough game. If needs be could make the odd change Saturday
