It's one of the great quandaries of having a large squad.
Players not quite good enough to displace the first teamers but don't want to vegetate on the bench.
Did notice he "created" the goal against Leeds with a long throw, a "skill" we'd, probably, never utilise.

PS: Good Luck To The Lad.

No criticism intended by the way, I just thought you may be pleased/disinterested/disgusted (delete as appropriate) to see how he was getting on.

Some of us are genuinely interested. Leonard "may" have played for us last Saturday when we lost to Bristol City seeing as Fleck was out injured.

Always liked Leonard - perhaps our biggest problem and possibly Southend didn't do him any good by hanging on to him last summer. We wanted him last summer (as we all remember). He may have been a permanent fixture in the team by now as when Coutts got injured at Burton last November, it may have been Lenny that dropped into that position and not Lundstram. If he had gelled, then we may not have signed Lee Evans in January as most of us could see that Lunny was not a replacement for Coutts. Lenny also, may not have been a fit for Coutts, but for me he had a better footballing brain than Lunny.

Sometimes it's just being in the right place at the right time - sadly for Lenny, it didn't work out right "up norf".

He goes with my best wishes anyway.

All's well that ends well it seems

All's well indeed and anyone who helps stop DirtyLeeds getting 3 points is fine by me.

Been great having you on hear Rootshallbloke. Please don't be a stranger, unless of coures you have another 'wonder striker' like Cadette or Guthrie you need to dump on some mugs.

We do seem to produce players that are great for us and then total tossers when they go elsewhere. I put it down to the sun, sea, sand and the Cathedral of Football that is Roots Hall. It's always difficult for other clubs to meet those high standards.;)

Guthrie? - they had our pants down with that from memory - £100K, I think - must be something with Sarfend chairmen wanting to stuff the thick idiots up norf

New stand, new record signing super striker and a draw at home agisnt last season's champions.

What could possibly go wrong......

So as expected, he's slotted in perfectly and apparently already looks to be worth the fee.

Just wait until January, he'll be worth double what they paid. That's why we should have loaned him with no fixed permanent fee in place.

We never even got to see his long throw either...

lol - good call.

As a strategy it seems to have been quite lucrative, plus the sell-on dosh from Lenny this time. For all of the piss taking about our Ron's hair he is pretty astute at wringing the last few quid out of a deal. Frankly, that is how us small fry survive in the lower reaches.

yes ,accepted and you have to do what is required. Many many clubs have had our pants down in the past. We've produced a few decent kids from when our academy came on stream early 00's - but we have always had to buy. Looks like we have made a bit from only having him for 6 months or so - why should clubs like ours not do what Chelsea do?, only at a much higher level - I personally can see no reason why not.

At least the academy has now taken the majority of decent kids in Sheffield to ours and not the pigs - their indoor training facility is a last century plastic blow up bubble - laughable really - they really are MASSIVE !

Isn’t what they've paid essentially roughly half of what we've paid for Norwood (accepting that both are undisclosed)? I’d be surprised if come January he’ll be at that value.

I genuinely believe that Lenny's long throw was hexed when he was with us. In all the years I watched him I never saw a goal as a result of his throw. Then bugger me, off to the ̶s̶c̶u̶m̶ Millwall and his throw creates a goal on his debut, bloody typical.

I have good memories of Southend, my dad used to know the Chairman in the 1990’s (John Adams) so we went down a few times and were treated really well down there, always took us into the changing rooms for both teams before the game and had a nice meal after. I wasn’t very old at the time but it seemed a decent club.

I remember taking my seat in the new south stand that sunny August afternoon in 1975,full of hope.We had finished sixth the previous season and had just signed Chris Guthrie from Southend,a big centre forward to help fire us into Europe. In true SUFC tradition,we were relegated and finished bottom of the league with only six victories all season,it could only happen at BDTBL.

Even the crapiest corniest Holywood studio would reject the United script outlines as totally implausible.....

Seems like Lenny has settled in very well at Millwall. He scored one and his long throw made another against Ipswich and all in all the fans have taken to him. From what I've seen of him there he appears to have been given a similar role to that which he had with us. A great shame that he couldn't make it with you guys but you are perched quite happily at the top of the Championship so all's well that ends well for you and him. Good luck this season, Christ knows why, but I have soft spot for you Northern chappies so I hope you go all the way.

Jeez, you guys seem to losing players at some rate this last few weeks! I presume those injuries don’t bode well for your season?

He also played bloody well against us. Fair play to him. He's doing a good job at Millwall and the fans at the club already love him. You must like to see him do well. Btw, I started a thread recently about how well he was doing, just in case you get any complaints about how we love to bang on about players no longer with us, or something like that.

Yep, serious wrong end of pineapple up the arse time. 4 established first teamers out with serious injuries till next season. The biggest loss was Tom Hopper who was scoring for fun before being kicked out of the game and his season. We will now probably limp towards January where we can get some replacements in. I don't know what the refs have been like in the Championship this season, but in FL1 the standard has been absolutely appalling. As a result tackles are taking players out without any reaction by the refs. Probably an over reaction but they have been bad.
