Foreign players

Before I joined the Carrier Bag Firm full time, a small part of my job meant that I was sometimes called to advise on Work Permits for foreign football players. Because of freedom of labour movement within the EU, that meant non-EU players. Essentially, it's a mathematical formula. The basic approach is - we don't give work permits to rubbish players from countries who aren't very good.
So, to automatically qualify for a Work Permit a player had to have played a high proportion of recent internationals for a highly ranked nation.
Under Brexit, there is an argument that new signings from EU countries may have to pass this test. Rather than "has an EU passport'

And I think there is still a quota for non EU players, isn't there?

In theory there could be a mass exodus of players post Brexit and an end to most of the foreign players coming to this country as most of them won’t have the prerequisite international country qualification games necessary. Those EU citizens already here should be ok. But those who arrived after the Brexit vote may have to go Jos

Wilders approach to player recruitment may be to our advantage, unlike a lot of the 'merry go round' british and foreign managers he prefers to attract established british players. This policy strengthens my view that if he wants to manage in the top division it will be with a promoted team rather than an existing premiership club and hopefully that will be us.

Or it could be quite the opposite in the interim - all the players currently here will bleed their clubs dry until the end of their bloated contracts because they can't move to another club in the UK and no club in Europe would pay them as much as their currently on.

As always, I'm contractually bound to explain Utd have signed three non-British Isles players into the Academy.

This Summer, Frenchman Nicksoen Gomis joined the Academy from Evreux FC 27.

German goalkeeper Jordan Amissah also joined, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are amongst his former clubs.

Simeon Oure has been at the Academy for a while longer. Following spells with USMF Gagne and Nimes Olympique in his native France.

We have trialled a small number of other foreign players in the U23s recently. There is, of course, a great Blog where you can get info on the progress of these youngsters & one off Scouting reports on any triallist....

If only I could find a blog that provided such information and also mentioned interesting beers as well?

To answer my own thread...

Burton Albion don't have any foreigners in their squad either.

No place for Johnny Foreigner in the squad, training staff only speak english, leads to clarity
of course footballers generally being thickos some wont understand even in english
Scottish would be foreign if theyd voted for independance , under Alex Salmon ,thats close enough
They realised what theyd miss out on though

Cheap Foreign Labour.

That's the whole point. You buy a foreigner a lot cheaper than the equivalent British lad.
Fortunately our ownership dispute means we don't spend very much on Brits, so there is little incentive to 'save' by buying Johnny Foreigner.

They already seem pretty foreign to me. Anyone whose staple diet* is deep fried Mars bars and drinks Irn Bru and Buckfast seems pretty foreign to a lad born in S12.

*As a 'modern man', of course i accept that there is no place in the world for these pseudo-racist stereotypes.
Scots have finer palettes than I suggested and also enjoy sheep's innards, Tennents lagers and shortbread in tartan tins.

they are very health orientated , neeps and tatties abound
and thistle and stag sandwiches

What's our best team using only foreign players like Sabella, Bobokis, Kachuro, JAF etc?

I heard the Prince wanted to go more continental but in true McCabe fashion told him British way is best.

Just realised Norwich manager is the German fella from Dortmund and Leeds Bielsa the Argy both took on foreign players and hey guess what both teams have done brilliant this season.

I still think Utd could do much better if they took a few foreign players as they just seem to add something different and better

That said Wilder has done brilliant this season and I really hope he gets us promoted as he will bloody deserve it.

I think with Wlider team spirit and togetherness is as important as anything else. He encourages his players to bond by socialising and having a beer together. Maybe, he feels a few foriegn players from different cultures might affect that togetherness.

If I am right, then who are we to disagree given results so far?

Probably preparing for when we leave the EU and all the European players get deported.
