Leicester and the night of the Davison obviously top 2 but I really enjoyed a 2-1 win at goodison park in the first league 1 season . Down to a 5 minute early goal but Hodges equalised before half-time and Brian Marwood popped up with the winner near the end and made himself a blade

This was a great day out
I also remember seeing it back on TV and when Marwood scored the winner and wheeled away, all the Everton fans sat in their seats but turned their heads towards us as absolute bedlam erupted on the away end

My top 3 best ever away days were Leicester as above. The 3 1 Bobby Davison night at the Sty and as a youngster watching us beat Man You 2 1 at Old Trafford in Bobby Charltons last home game for them.

Did all three. Keith Eddy scored the winner in a stroll to victory at OT. No big deal bitd. How times have changed

trusson late winner at rotherham. league cup
our first win that season turned the tide

and a midweek 2/0 win at oldham year we went up 89 90 , game changing win

a late late winner at Bury , we took about 5000
deane scored
First away game back in the top flight away at the baseball ground
we scored a late equaliser
deane scored

superb atmosphere in div 3 and div 1
A similar one at Bury ...a Keith Edwards equaliser in injury time in the Div 4 promotion season. Craig Madden has scored early on. Ground packed with Blades.

Other faves:

- West Brom away, down to ten men just before Xmas under Warnock., last minute Pesky hit the bar from about 35 yards and Asaba dives in to head in the rebound. Limbs were everywhere.

- Ipswich play off away as mentioned above

- the promotion game at Wolves in Div 3.. Two two. Only two stands were open but the atmosphere was fantastic. Was in their main stand wth my 7 month pregnant wife. When Agana scored to put us ahead the locals weren't too happy to see a few Blades in there !!!!

I was at that match and was bollocked by some Hull fans in The Bob Lord Stand who thought I was a Burnley fan as I’d shouted something about The Blades. I opened my jacket revealing my Blades scarf and they soon changed their tune from disgust to respect. They couldn’t believe that me and my three mates had gone over to Burnley. As the game went on you could see more and more red and white scarves and shirts being revealed around Turf Moor until at the final whistle the celebrations began.

I went over to Burnley on my Honda 100, took all day. Burnley fans around me swore that Hull wouldnt get two ( or was it three ?), within a few minutes Hull were 1 goal to the good, and as I recall quickly got the 2nd. I’ve never been as nervous and decided I’d made a mistake.

Completely forgot about that game until I read your post

was a weird one, half a ground great atmosphere and both clubs celebrating going up
was an excellent game too

Darlington, Blade dressed as a ref with a Hitler mustache and a red and white scarfe round his neck tried to blow his whistle to start the second half.

Leicester away, any one of three could have gone up, didn't start enjoying it til we scored the fourth.

Norwich away in the cup, absolutely rammed, we played well and went down fighting, all you can ever ask in a defeat.

The 3-1 night game at their place. Couldn't get tickets for the away end but got two in their south stand next to some steps, not too far from the Leppings Lane end. Before we went in I said " Strictly speaking we shouldn't be in there so remember to keep a low profile " he said " you can rely on me ". Dane scores, he leaps up and runs down about ten steps with both arms in the air screaming " Dane My Son, you beauty YEEEEEESSSSS " Leppings Lane is going mental, but there is a sad hush in the south stand, aside from my lunatic mate, our cover was blown.

Liverpool away Flo winner, went with a mate and we met up with some Scousers I knew through work and we agreed to meet with them afterwards for a drink. My mate ( son of the lunatic at Hillsbrough ) wasn't keen but I knew them well and we had a right laugh. Flo scored at the Kop end and one of them said it came off his shoulder not his head, I said I didn't care if it came off his arse. We went down that season, typical Blades.

Went to Palace, 1972,only to have the match postponed at 10 minutes to kick off due to incessant rain. Oh how I laughed. Turnstyle offered free tickets for re-arranged fixture, which I didn’t get to

Enjoyed plenty of those mentioned but I'm going to give a mention to two wins on Merseyside.

First one, winning at Goodison first season back in the top flight 1990/91. Marwood last minute winner, Hodges equalising and running into the away end, yellow balloons everywhere and the first time I saw us win away at a really big club.

Then a few years later just before relegation away at Anfield. As a little kid I loved watching Liverpool on tv and was a huge fan of Dalglish. They were the best team in Europe, if not the world, for a while.
Never thought I'd see us win at Anfield ever growing up.

Pulling rank on all you youngsters, 3-1 win at Newcastle (Russell hat-trick in first 20 minutes), got us into the semi-final of the Cup for the first time in my life. We were a league below Newcastle, and this was at a time that the Cup was regarded as more important than the League. About 18000 Blades there (away team got a third of the tickets), and Ilkla Moor Bahtat rang out from all sides of the ground for the whole 90 minutes. Did any other oldies on here go to that game?
It being United, the 3 semi-finals (2 replays) were a huge anti-climax, and we didn't score a single goal in the 3 games.:(

Quite a few memorable ones, Darlington, Leicester and any win at the sty. Winning 4 - 0 at leeds, 6 - 1 at Cardiff are up there not forgetting the 4 - 0 win at Peterborough in div 4.

Peterborough 4th division. Wor it Gerry Somers and Hodgy in charge of them and what they were not going due to the Blades. We were canon fodder.
OK
We went 3 -0 up quick smart and finished winning 4 - 0.
Even Richardson (Paul ?) had a good game, Steve Charles told him so by using both hands round his throat.

Palace away, mid week, possibly August 2003 is worth a mention. From memory we were one up when Paddy kenny got sent off and having no keeper on the bench Jags went in goal. Bracing ourselves for the onslaught and inevitable Palace equaliser, United's 10 men went straight up the other end and made it 2-0. Think Brown got sent off too late in game so we finished with 9 men and won 2-1. Heroics from Jags in goal and Blades making all the noise.

Peter Morris was Peterborough's manager. Gerry Summers managed Oxford and Gillingham (Hodgy was his assistant at Priestfield)

IpswIch away as it was a Tuesday night and frankly after the 1 1 on the Saturday we were expecting to be beat. The others were great days out and all that but we knew what was coming. Ipswich meant so much as we turned something round and we’re going to Wembley for only the second time in many many years and we don’t mention the other time.

Northampton was great as the challenge to get in their end was so immense and this even more satisfying. Plus the pre match boozets were great

Yep I was also there. We beat them at home 4-0 as well I recall. That season us, Bournemouth and.....two others went up, Bratfud I think.

Also one of the of the Blades contingent at Turf Moor that night , Hull were 1-0 before we’d even got in I think ironically it might have been Marwood who scored at 2-0 the Imodium Extra family pack was out ! And that was the longest end for a final whistle I remember . Special praise to the heroics of Roger Hansbury that night a one man battle against Hull , thought we’d fucked it after we’d lost 3-1 at Bolton on Sat before only to realise Bristol Rovers had won at Hull
Did enjoy the celebratory beers after as the the Hull coaches went passed with a few re

Wasn’t that 61 ? Leicester beat Barnsley in the 6th round, they drew at Leicester then lost the replay at Oakwell in extra time i believe. Leicester lost the final to the great Spurs team of the era, Blanchflower, McKay, White, Jones, Allen, Norman, can’t remember t’others

Rotherham away in 1984. United needing the points near the end of the season for our promotion push. Bob Atkins pops up with a last minute winner. Mental scenes on the away end and on the 69 bus home (I was only 14). Fucking brill

Didn’t Mike Trusson score for them ?

Bill Brown would be in goal and Henry at FB. Bobby Smith CF. Terry Dyson?

The great Spurs team which was the first team to do the league and cup double for very many years; at the time it was assumed to be more or less impossible. Now we barely bat an eyelid when it is done. (Is 'bat an eyelid' right? It felt strange as I wrote it.)

I went to Oldham when we thrashed them 5-1 and Colin Morris was brilliant,3-1 at the sty,2-3 at Norwich in the cup a great day,2-1 at Rotherham when the wall fell down on their kop.
The worst was probably the 0-3 defeat at Altrincham in fa cup replay.

Kenny didn't get sent off. He was injured after a collision. He didn't play again till Boxing Day. We didn't go down to 10 men till the second half when Brown was sent off.

Epic performance. Allison and Ndlovu for us I think, Palace's goal was a pen I reckon. Jags didn't have a fat lot to do as the team worked so hard to keep the ball away from goal.

My Dad went to the first replay at the City Ground, but missed the other 2 games due to work commitments I think.

He said that the feeling at the time was that despite the double not having been done since the 19th Century United and Leicester were really just engaged in a playoff to decide who would lose to Tottenham in the final.

Fun fact: There have been 8 FA Cup semi finals that have gone to 3 or more games. United have been involved in 4 of those ties (1899 v Liverpool, 1902 v Derby, 1928 v Huddersfield, 1961 v Leicester). We won the first 2 ties and lost the last 2 ties.
