FAO Those who leave games early

On the Kop, a lot leave via the front row. You can tell they don’t really want to leave as they drag their heals and mope their way out in case we get a goal. Yesterday, they must’ve got right to the exit and thought ‘fook, I’m actually at the exit and the whistle hasn’t gone, I’ve actually got to fookin leave now!’....

Twats.

Never left a game early except for Crewe away when we were 2-0 down or something, and we had lads like Forte ambling around not giving a fuck. Bad bad day that.

Don’t mind folk leaving early, their choice after all (however stupid) but what does piss me off is making the rest of the row stand up to accommodate them.

Imagine being that desperate to be at home...why bother coming out of the house in the first place?

if we are 3-0 now then I dont see a problem but I think majority of us agree 1-1 is the problem

the greatest example of never leave early, was the aguero goal in 2012 because man city fans left as you see yesterday. I remember reading that man city people realised they need to beef up the secuirity, as it was really easy for thousands to climb to back in

In 2 and a half decades of supporting Sheffield United, I have left early once - First game of this season vs Swansea. Had to go a couple of minutes before they scored the winner to catch the train. It felt very strange. My own fault for leaving it late to book travel, and I regretted it even though we lost. I always stay until the death. It was magic watching Sharp's winner slip in and the Kop going crackers.

Just stay until the end. Clap the players off the pitch. Why do you care if you're sat in traffic for a bit longer? What are you in such a rush to go home to? Best bit of the day's already done!

having watched since 1967, I have left early only 3 times !

Thinking back we must have been really shit that day, but those games go back to lates 70's early 80's which was at times understandable.

Nope, I can't understand why people do.

After recently re-rupturing the old Achilles it's probably in mine and everyone else's interests for me to hobble in and hobble out a bit earlier to reduce chances of further fck up or holding folk up. Still nearly decked it as i reacted to the roar as Billy scored

I'll leave early if there's seconds left and we're down by two goals or more. If it's a tight game I'll often walk to the Cherry St end of the kop and watch from the steps or Gangway A as the final whistle approaches. Nothing to do with the traffic, but all to do with getting served in the Golden Lion.

Got to own up here as I was heading down the kop steps as Sir Billy scored. Never done it before but the vicar, all the guests and especially my beautiful bride were getting mighty pissed off.
You could have got someone to stand in for you!

A mate of mine used to leave between 4.35 and 4.40 for Saturday games in the late 80s and early 90s (10 minute half times then). In our 1989-90 promotion season he missed something like 10 goals doing this. His finest moment was leaving the Brighton home game when we were losing 4-3...

What does it matter? It's not like it's a big game.... in 20 years time they're not going to be talking about that 90th minute goal that got us up to 8th in the season we finished mid table in the championship.... it's a social event for a lot of people and if they'd rather sneak out for an extra pint or get home early so what... at least they turned up

What annoys me about it is that it means the fans have given up on the prospect of us scoring/ changing the game, and if you leave early, you’re hoping we don’t score because then you’d have missed it.

Most ridiculous one from my memory was people leaving in the Wigan game - one goal would have meant premier league survival but clearly for some people the traffic was a bigger concern.

Each to their own. It's not something I've ever done.

I do wonder though why some people buy season tickets with the routine they have. There must be half a dozen blokes who sit in the close vicinity to me year in year out who always arrive 5 or 10 minutes after kick off, disappear 5 or 10 minutes before half time, come back 5 or 10 minutes into the second half, and then go 5 or 10 minutes before the end whatever the scoreline, usually telling everyone which pub they're off to.

What happened at the end of Titanic anyway?
Are you old enough to remember the Walsall game where all we needed was a draw to stay in the third?
It was very similar, there were moments where it looked safe but you always knew going down was inevitable.

If any of us are still alive from 81/82 division 4, try and remember Northampton away a Tuesday night match. We didn't play well, Northampton gave us the run around and went 1-0 up. Late on a good few Blades left, we stopped and up popped Mike Trusson. Got two at least one was a header from a corner, bit of help here Silent. Full time and we legged it back to the car, catching up with early leavers and shared the news.
Never in the history of SUFC has the F word been used so much by so few in such a short time.

Thanks for reading.

Should it really surprise anyone?

The atmosphere even managed to be flat in the second half at 4-0, with the Kop zombies still slumped in their seats showing zero enthusiasm.

Leaving 5 minutes early is just the natural follow on from that.

NOTHING is going to reclaim the lost passion. We could be 4-0 up v Wednesday at Bramall Lane and it'd be the same. Might actually be worse because Wednesday don't have Jack Grealish...

Not enough standing, too much music and too many mobile phones. Change that and see what happens.

I don't understand the mentality at all. Unless you have work or some massive event in your life why the hell would you rush out? I'll never understand it.

Never understood leaving a game early.

Pay decent money to get in and only lasts a couple of hours yet you want to leave early to "miss the traffic". It's bizarre. If your so concerned about traffic stay at home and listen to the game on Radio Sheffield, that is of course unless your a pig then bad luck :D

I would rather miss traffic by staying in the ground for an extra 10-15 minutes having applauded us off, and then miss some more traffic by having a coffee in McDonalds or something.

Dont normally leave early but Kelly Brook promised me a shag as long as I was home before 5.00 PM

At it again yesterday. Winning 4-1, one of the best performances we've ever seen from United, and people are still streaming out with 5 minutes to go
Yep, “they pay their money” etc, etc, but they are fucking weird.

This except the McDonalds rubbish however I am usually staying in the Copthorne, only fair to give a little back after all McCabe has done for us!
Take cover!
