Certainly an interesting one.

A make weight in a signing the other way? or just thrown a strop due to not being a regular first teamer?

Pity really, could have been our top scorer this year based on pre-season :D

Interesting to gauge the reaction, given that most didn't want to sign him back and didn't think he was good enough.

Not that bothered about losing his ability, more bothered about losing the lack of cover!

Seems a silly sale if we have no-one coming in to cover an already very thin area of the squad!

might pay fortunes wages with the fee

I know blackwell didn't rate fortune as high as killa and morgs but he may rate him higher than bromby

That would make sense, also i think that people have forgotten that france can also play at right back, so he would then become immediate number two for right back.

Also Kyle walker can play CH and young Maguire not far from the step up

Bromby

Having heard rumours about Bromby's departure last week, it has just been confirmed that he has indeed today joined dirty l***s for a fee of £250,000. Whilst we know that the lad is never going to be our centre half on a consistant basis, he did 'a job' to fill in if we had suspension or injury on a short term basis. He wasn't poor, I'd always say that the championship was probably his level, nothing more.
Lets take a worse case scenario now: Killa leaves (which we all know is reletively probable), then Morgan gets injured or suspended. The heart of our defence is ripped out completely. It means Blackwell signing two centre halves to sort our the mess.
We obviously need to replace Bromby, but who is going to come to us as back up to Killa and Morgan? They are our first choice partnership and few would argue with the quality and how well they compliment eachother.
So......who will Blackie sign to cover this?

Leeds United have agreed a £250,000 deal to sign Sheffield United defender Leigh Bromby..eight months after rejoining the Blades.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Watford 6ft defender is due to undergo a medical at Elland Road on Bank Holiday Monday after agreeing a four-year deal.

The 29-year-old only rejoined the Blades in January after an moderate spell at Vicarage Road.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson said: "We are delighted to agree terms with Leigh. He has good experience in the Championship and will be a valuable member of our squad."

I've just seen this rumoured on Sky Sports and im like, what the fuck. We've only just signed him back now were getting rid again only 5 days into the season, and after seeing Kilgallon play like a donkey for the first time ever, we need cover in the shape of Bromby more than ever.

Is powell still with us?

I read somewhere that he has been offered a 4 year contract.

If that was me and I was only on a 2yr deal at the moment I would grab it with both hands.

Players ultimately decide where they play, not managers or boards of directors.

What a disgrace! sky sports have confirmed the deal and with no rumours of anyone coming in i personally think that we are screwed. Blackwell will probably just loan in some useless prem reserve player in a week or so for cb cover. I really wouldn't be suprised if the pigs do better than us this season as nobody decent wants to play for blackwell, my sunday league team has a better chance of bringing a quality player in than him!

"Blackwell will probably just loan in some useless prem reserve player in a week or so for cb cover."

Like we did with Gary Cahill, for instance?

That was Robson that did that though. As crap a manager as he was, he had an eye for a player.

I'm intrigued about who we will bring in to be honest, I think we'll sign someone from League One.

The tone of this post typifies the faithful Blade - I ask why are we looking to sign just a cover centre back ? Why are'nt we looking to sign someone to challenge Killa and Morgan ? Last season when Ugo was playing Morgan couldn't get a game and the defence looked solid - why now this assumption that we just sign a cover for injury and illness ?. Lets sign a young up and coming centre back that will challenge the centre backs , keep them on their toes or perhaps everyones happy that we just have cover i.e. like Bennett, who when his time came was not up to the mark!

Can't argue with this FB, well said.

Well, obviously that's an ideal situation, but it means we have to pay for someone good enough to challenge Killa and Morgan, which we might not have the money to do at this moment. Additionally, we have to attract a player who is good enough to be able to expect a first team position in a Championship team, and tell him that Killa and Morgan will start ahead of him. Not impossible, but it probably means more money.

It's not always wrong to buy back-up players. Sometimes it's the right move. They are cheap, and you avoid getting a player who is going to get unsettled if he can't get a regular game in the first team. You say Bennett was not up to the mark when his time came, but actually he had one bad game - having made a number of first team appearances prior to that, and having played well. Paddy's had bad games too, and so will Bunn. Bennett remains a suitable back-up.

Having said all of that, a third CB is not really a 'back-up'. With the number of injuries and suspensions a CB gets, a third CB will get plenty of games.

Like that Turner fella Hull have just sold for silly money? Hull bought him for 300,000 I believe from Brentford ;-)

Jason Shackall would be worth a go.

we NEED cover, Morgs will not go all season without getting a suspension at some point, and how he doesn't get more injuries amazes me, he could literally run through a brick wall

IT's those that shirk challenges that are more likely to get injured.
