Depends if the wage situation has changed I guess....

Deal would have been done earlier in the window but for that sticking point I reckon. Fingers crossed, I believe he’d be a decent option for us and genuinely strengthen us.

Were his wages ever a sticking point? Is that a known fact or an assumption?

From listening to our only source of accurate information, Chris Wilder it seems more than likely that in order to get something moving, you're reliant on the current club doing their business first. So if Villa haven't brought in a striker, Hogan is still required.

Something which Radio Sheffield tweeted yesterday was that a striker is likely to be the last business done before the window closes for this reason.

Waghorn was possible as Ipswich were willing to sell. Norwood happened after the first deadline as Brighton were concentrated on other business themselves.

Wages may well be a sticking point, but seems more likely that its because other clubs are trying to sort themselves first, of course unless that club is a selling club under embargo...

Was an assumption based on what the likes of Alan Nixon were tweeting while the rumours were ‘live’ so to speak.... basically said him and Gallagher wouldn’t happen do to wages at the time.

To me it’s seemed like villa would be willing to sell at that point or loan to get off their books. But I’m only guessing.

But agree It may be once villa look at thir situation if they can get most of the wages off the wage bill they’d be willing to loan out if they look covered elsewhere.

Wonder why he's so out of favour at Villa, is it that they want him off their wage bill or does Bruce not rate him at all ?

If we loan Hogan do we have to buy him in January?
As far as I knew it used to be "a loan until January" then clubs added "loan with a VIEW to buy" but now a lot of the deals seem to be "on loan until January, permanent from then on".
It must all be down to the player and both teams though. I'm guessing all 3 options are still available. I think Villa will want a sale to be honest.
He's always been my number one choice so I really have my fingers crossed for this one.

He’s just not cut it there for whatever reason. I suspect there’s a big expectation on him after they paid £12m for him from Brentford. He was scoring for fun at Brentford of course.

I mentioned on another thread that I watched him closely in one game and wasn’t impressed. Kept going offside. But...that’s one game and I trust Wilder to know what he’s doing if he thinks he’s worth pushing the boat out for.

I also have to keep reminding myself that I am impressed by no one very easily! It’s just the way I am!

Looking at Villa's strikers and I know age and character come into it but I would rather take a punt for a season on Ross McCormack than spunking millions on Hogan.

Hogan had one good season at Brentford and yes, if we can get that Hogan then happy days.....I just can't help thinking however that he may turn into a very expensive flop.

Of the two strikers that appear to be currently linked I would take Nahki Wells over Hogan every time...unless there is any truth in the Assombalonga whispers....

A problem with Hogan is that he seems to be like a younger version of Sharpy. Not the quickest player and has a bite to him. Where's the young, black, pacey french players?

He’s injury prone and probably past his best already. He’s never stayed fit for one season and only played 30 games in a season once. Good luck to the lad but it’s a worrying signing for me

Exactly this.
Out of all the Strikers we have been linked with he would be the worst option in my opinion.

Those loan-until-January-then-permanent deals are being made purely as a reaction to the early closure of the permanent transfer window. To all intents and purposes they're permanent deals.

Could only possibly be a loan, not loan to buy, due to wages. On that basis, and assuming Villa subsidised part, not too much risk.

It’s interesting seeing Villa fans reaction to the possibility of Hogan coming to us on Twitter.

Some are saying he’d be perfect in a system where Grealish and McGinn are playing behind him. I think we have similar players in our midfield (albeit not on the same level technically), so I’d be excited somewhat if he did come based on those suggestions.

Out of interest what have his injuries been? Back and knees are always most worrying.

I only think we should take him if its loan to permanent / if we loan him say until January or the end of the season with a recall option then effectively we're just getting him fit for Villa's benefit.
