Hull, Unsworths last minute goal promotion season?

That's the one, another rollercoaster of a game for a Blades fan but definitely one of the best 'last minuters' in my time as a Blade.

It's a shame (to put it mildly) that Unsy will probably always be remembered for a certain penalty rather than for that goal.

Nah not in my mind, he will always be remembered for that goal.

Me too, he was only doing a job for Wigan although his celebration was a bit over the top. I was disappointed in the reaction he got when he faced us for Burnley, particularly at their place when you could see he wanted to come over and applaud us at one point.

I'll always remember him for scoring directly from a corner against Derby. Absolutely fantastic.

Last minute penalty winner at home to Coventry on his debut was another although you could maybe counteract that with the one and only penalty miss of his career v Blackburn ! One of those players who always gave 100%.

Haven't had the pleasure of seeing his penalty replayed since so I can't remember his reaction but to be fair he was employed by Wigan and by scoring that goal it gave them a great chance of retaining their place in the division. I read an interview with him after saying how after the game whilst happy to have kept Wigan up was gutted that we went down, so much so that when the other players went out on a night on the piss he couldn't do it.

Always gave his all and provided us with some great moments, although I "couldn't bare to look at him" when he got sent off for smacking Eagles when they did us 4-1 at the Lane and looked like catching us.

I felt sorry for him after the Wigan penalty.

He was in a real no win situation really, he was Wigans regular penalty taker at the time so if he had given it to someone else and missed then he would have been accused of bottling it, if he had taken it and misses he would have faced accusations of purposely missing it, and if he had taken and scored (which happened) he would have been vilified by his former club whom he had a good rapport with and enjoyed promotion with.

I'm sure i have seen it written a couple of times since that he still has a real soft spot for the Blades and is apologetic for sending us down. I'd rather remember him for the promotion season and being instrumental in that, rather than being the man who sent us down

I think I saw somewhere he said he now wishes he'd not scored the penalty. If someone mentions Unsworth to me the Hull goal comes straight to my mind, never the Wigan one.

I loved the Rhino, that celebration when he scored against Hull is probably one of my favourite memories at t'Lane.

What a man :)

If either of the penalties he took at the Lane that year had had the opposite outcome we'd have stayed up.
