In 2007 (in my view) we didn’t only get relegated, we missed the chance to blow the Pigs into oblivion, the club were United, the fan base was good and all the young support was favouring us, aided by a good price structure- but we blew it.

With the Pigs in absolute disarray this is the season where we have the chance again.

Sadly as seems to be the way with United through history we never have a board/manager/fans that are all on the same page - we either have a good manager with no backing ( Bassett) a good backing but shit manager or team, Good attendances but dire football.

We have the manager and the fans but don’t have Harmony at board level. So frustrating as the Pigs could go down and lose support this year.

I think people are overreacting to the disharmony at board level, yes they have fallen out and are fighting each other, but it seems to be having no bearing on the manager or our transfer plans, both of the owners need us to succeed to get any sort of ROI in the future, penny pinching wont and upsetting the manager and players wont help them one iota. Let them have their dick swinging contest, we can and hopefully will still obliterate them shitty twats.

Every super hero needs an arch villain as a nemesis.

I can’t wish them utter destruction. I would prefer that we were both in the Premier league and that we thrash them every time we play and that we are always top 6 while they always spend the season in a relegation battle.

The football fan is a fickle being.

If we had beaten Swansea at the weekend I gaurantee you wouldn’t have started this thread...

I remember during that prem season even the pig fans were saying that this was when the tables were going to turn forever

How wrong they were

As "call me Mr Chairman" Sir Dave Richards once said " We'll never play Sheffield United in a league game again"

That was before his company went bust and he started falling unaided into water features.

I'm at the fag end of my life, hopefully still got a good few years left in me though. However, I've given up hope of us actually winning anything in my lifetime but I'm still optimistic those bastards will implode into oblivion, in which case i'll still be pegging it with a smile on my face.

Do people not think that the animosity/banter between the two clubs is what keeps local youths supporting one of the Sheffield clubs and not go glory hunting? If one were to go it might mean youngsters start supporting Successful clubs, like Man U. A path that could lead to a decline in our support, if we are not successful. So, on those grounds, I don't want them to go bust, for the sake of Sheffield football.

This thread has nothing whatsoever to do with the Swansea result, unless you can point me to the bit that does.

Agreed .

No board, which is effectively what we now have, is the best we've had for years . Budget wise for team building is also the best we've seen since floppy Nobson was at the helm . *

It's a shame the current shenanigans will be sorted next year .

* I know it's not enough for some on here but then again it never will be enough for some o_O

Floppy nobson :D A new one, but an instant classic.

It's like that older brother that you were always fighting with when you were young and then when he leaves home you don't half miss him.

Last week was a perfect time for the Blades. They were fighting over transfer embargoes, radio coverage etc., we'd made some good signings and with a good preseason things were looking bright.

So how disappointing it was to lose against Swansea.

No matter what happens at Hillsborough if we don't deliver then our sneering at their predicament is a complete waste of time.

If we want to obliterate them then the season must start tonight.

An excerpt from last night's meeting ...

"A guy starts heckling Chansiri about prices, says United have better players, Chansiri doesn’t agree and jokes if you think United have better players than us you don’t know football. Round of applause from the audience."

Wednesday will not go down.
This is porcine level delusion.

No, they won't. No chance. They'll drop Hutchinson into defence for a start, and I would guess that they'll probably be able to loan another defender if Westwood goes.

But from what was said last night if the Owls don't go up then things are looking bad. So they could theoretically finish in the playoffs, lose, and still be in the brown stuff.

If you're going to "go for it" you've gotta do what Wolves did, not meekly, half-heartedly do it like Chancer did.

Back to the “expensive means better” mindset.

We definitely got the young fan base on board when we got to The Premier. We also took in a fair few students too who came to watch us then ended up staying in the city and supporting the club. McCabe's biggest success has been improving our attendances and fan base not only due to prices but also marketing kid and family days really well .

We have made up huge ground on Wednesday in terms of support and if the team continue to improve it will only get more people interested. I think talk of Wednesdays demise is premature but their play off final defeat certainly seems like a huge moment in their history now .
