Is that picture cropped SB? I would have been just to the right of the goal

Who can name the keeper, answers on a postcard to wtf@no idea.co.uk

“Greasy” Gary Sprake, fondly remembered for throwing the ball into his own net on one occasion. The other two Leeds players are Paul Reaney and the wee lad Billy Bremner.

As for the two in stripes, I have no idea, but we won 3-0 and must have been top of Division 1 after that win.

Fucking Bremner. Nasty little twat. He was the bastard child of Doyle, Billy Tightshirt and Morgs.

Sprake threw the ball into his own net at the Anfield kop end. Liverpool fans started singing Careless Hands (Des Oconnor song) that was in the charts.

Great photo Silent. I was on the kop that night. Age 16 waiting for my O level results. Diana Ross at number 1 with I'm Still Waiting. Blades were awesome.

The very best days.

Agreed , but every fan in the country would have loved to have in in their team ( along with Reaney , Madeley , Charlton, Giles , Clarke ......... )

I hated them as much as anybody ( and Don Revie even more so ) but had to accept they were one hell of a side .

As good a footballer as Giles was, John Harris had no time for him, describing him as a "dirty little player". Strong language from gentleman John.

Every good team needed a Giles ,Harris bought Hockey ,but he wasn't as nasty or skilful.

... who very occasionally , put in the odd dubious tackle but was otherwise exemplary in his behaviour .

I was on the John Street. My first solo visit aged 13. I remember two things that night.

1 A big whole appearing on the Shoreham as some Leeds infiltraters were 're-educated' by the SRA .

2. And after another foul by Jack Charlton (may be have been booked) the immortal chant
'What's it like to be inside Jackie Charlton !'

I think there was over 40,000 there that night. The largest crowd I have been party to at BDTBL. It was a truly fantastic game. Arguably the best ever Blades game given the opposition and result. We were awesome!

Just found this. Funny how we scored all three goals in the 90th minute !!

December 1967 at Anfield. Love Jack Charlton's reaction

They were fucking sublime. Everything about them was how footballers should play (at that time) They knew how to soak up pressure, adapt, build the attack, strike clinically, shut the opposition out and keep the lead. They only struggled when they couldn't make a game predictable (like vs Sunderland at Wembley in the 73 FAC Final) but that was rare. Everyone knew their roles and stuck to them and Revie rarely needed a plan b, because plan a worked so well.

That was a shirt.

The whole kit in fact. It just oozed style. If you look at Currie when he came to the Lane - short hair, fresh complexion and tucked in shirt and then look three or four years later, shirt out, sidies, long hair, wearing that kit it is clear to see why men and women idolised him (obviously for different reasons) When I met him outside BDTBL after a training session and he signed my autograph book, it was a truly magical moment. I was giddy as fuck. Tony fucking Currie!

Fucking superstar. Bigger than Jesus and three times as talented.

Real men in those days, they would play on a building site for a pittance and not complain, unlike the fanny's of today

17 year old Cahill was there just before I joined the RAF. Last match before joining was Derby away ( I think)
