I would be amazed if we paid 5 million for anyone given the boardroom debacle.

We are more likely to sell O'Connell than buy Waghorn imho.

I agree Rev, but this is less my position given it looks like we'll be (eventually) paying a 4million fee for a defender imminently.

A very Bladey post ,value for money signing McGoldrick and yet we should gamble on Marriot ?? Surely better to spend on a proven player at this level ,no ?

Just going in what I have seen from him. He did have a good season last year, and if we get him I hope he carries thatnon obviously. I just think Marriott could be the next player like Vardy. Or The Hogan Brentford signed.

The blokes just got 16 goals and 10 assists for Ipswich last season.

What the fuck are people wanting?
Someone cheaper than 7million quid? After 1 good season whilst being 28.

And also slate Waghorn for having one good season. They need to look at Marriott's career before last season (at a lesser level)

Waghorn is a left and Wilder likes balance. Not sure on £5m but if most of that is incentives then I am good to go.

Waghorn was involved in 27 goals last year, you only have to read what Ipswich fans are saying about him to realise what a big player he's been for them too. His attributes seem to be that of a Wilder type player.

A front pairing made up of two of Waghorn, Gallagher, Sharp or Clarke will be brilliant.

Duffy or Woodburn in behind.

Fleck & Coutts.

JOC, Egan, Basham.

Henderson.

Thats an excellent spine.

Only the issue of getting the 3 players in now!

Agreed. If we can pull of the players listed in your lineup there then this transfer window has gone from abysmal to excellent; providing they perform as expected, of course.

Rumours getting more realistic versus what we will pay in wages. This is an indication that Wilder is fed up of waiting for Southampton and Gallagher to make up their mind.

Not sure hes an upgrade on Clarke but if he's Clarke mark2 that has to be good enough doesn't it ?

On thinking about his age again - say we pay £5m (and personally I’m not sure we’d go that high) he’s 28 nearly 29....

I’m sure he’d have another 4/5 years in him. Until say 33. We’d essentially be renting him for that period at say a mill a year. Not the end of the world Lgiven rhats probably gallaghees loan fee too. And he was very productive last year involved in 27 goals

People REALLY need to let go of Hogan / Gallagher now. It isn’t happening, they want too much in wages for us to in good faith pay - ain’t happening so we’re clearly moving down our list of targets.

What's the problem here? A very good season last year, their fans rate him and finally...

£5m for Waghorn or £6m for Madine - you choose
To be fair I think that's only a relevant comparison should we find ourselves right in the automatic promotion mix and looking for a striker to get us over the line. If we could get Waghorn for £5m, a decent chunk of which depends on our being promoted to the Premier League, then I'd be happy with the deal.

Sheffield United launch record £5m bid for Ipswich's Martyn Waghorn
SIMON JONES:
Sheffield United have made a club record £5million bid for Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn.

The 28-year old had an impressive campaign with Ipswich last season scoring 16 goals and providing 11 assists. He has been linked with Middlesbrough and Derby County but Ipswich are keen to hold on to him.

Indeed, manager Paul Hurst said this week: 'I'm not going to say right now that ''he's not going anywhere'' but it will take a helluva lot of money and I don't know if anyone is going to be willing to do that.'

Sheffield United are flush with the £11m brought in from David Brooks's sale to Bournemouth and have a bid on the table from West Brom for goalkeeper Simon Moore.

Manager Chris Wilder also has interest in Southampton's Sam Gallagher and Liverpool's Ben Woodburn. He wants two strikers as Ched Evans is expected to complete a move to Fleetwood Town. Brentford defender John Egan is also Wilder's wishlist.

5 million seems a lot of money for someone at that age. It'd be unusual for us to buy somebody at peak valuation. If we got promoted nobody would give a solitary shit.If...

Waghorn is the one I've been hoping we'd go for all along .

Just what we're looking for and if we can get him for , say, 3.5 plus add ons I'm almost sure he'll turn out to be a great buy and a fans favourite in no time at all .

16 goals is officially "proven" in my book,
I just can't see us being able to nick a rivals best striker. I don't think we are in the right place yet or have the right budget to get players from teams in this division that they are desperate to keep hold of.

Excuse me. You can't stop a player leaving if he wants to go. His agent has probably turned his head. Ipswich need to cover their losses for the next few years. blah blah blah etc.

The one thing that I don't think has been mentioned much re Waghorn and Egan is the double whammy of strengthening us and weakening divisional rivals. It doesn't take much to destabilize a team, just look at the state of us in Lg 1 when Wolves took Macdonald. They romped the league with MacDonald as player of the season. We plummeted under Weir and were only just saved by Clough.

The Daily Mail is well informed about us so that's made me sit up and take notice.

I don't agree with spending £5m on him but hopefully a lot of it would be conditional on success. Then again, I don't know why Ipswich would accept such an offer.

If Wilder rates him that much I don't know why he didn't sign him for peanuts last summer.

Why would you prefer him over Waghorn? I'm seriously surprised.

For a better price I'd take Marriott - up to £2mil with add ons. £6.5mil or anything above 4? No chance. Waghorn every time.
We would be Marriott's big move. His big chance. He's young, in form and exciting. Waghorn has all the attributes that I'd really like but a 28 year old ex premiership striker for £5m plus just doesn't sound as much of a Wilder type buy.
He's scored 20 in the Scottish Championship before (*scoffs) but other than last season he's had a patchy record with clubs and goals.
I really like Wilders attitude of giving lower league players (usually the best at their current club) their big chance, failing that players with hunger or something to prove. This guy has been at Rangers, Sunderland and even Ipswich. I'm not saying we are a sideways step but his motivation would purely come down to his personality and mind set which I obviously couldn't comment on.

Let's not forget the original post by Nixon, our estimations are miles off what his club want. How much would you be willing to pay?

Looking at this, three things stand out for me;

- He's unselfish
- Would provide good competition on free kicks which we could very much do with

And most importantly...

He can take a fucking corner.

Can we all watch the video and see the first touch from Mcgoldrick. Wow

I can see us flushing out a bigger deal for another club to snap this lad up now, he is for sale as the new manager wants to build his team....

We might be the publicity they need to market the player to a wider audience..

Expect Forest or similar who are throwing it about (possibly Cardiff) to get involved.. that would be music to Ipswich’s ears..

He was shithouse at Rangers but I think that was more to do with poor management than anything. Since coming south he's improved quite a bit and I think Wilder can squeeze a lot more potential out of him.

Young too. I'd be appeh if he came here.

It doesn’t matter if they want £10million. If Waghorn wants to make a fuss for a move then we will have a chance.

Henderson
Egan
Mcgoldrick
Waghorn

Maybe one more like a Brooks replacement would be unreal.
