I’m certain he won’t. I’m afraid Tufty rates Stears a good deal higher than you appear to do. Egan, assuming he signs, will play RCB. Tufty previously went after the Blackburn lad who got injured, Linehan, for exactly the same role. As I understand it the manager thinks we conceded too many goals. Bash, for all his qualities, is a dodgy defender.

I’m afraid some Blades confuse what they want to happen with what is likely to happen.
Egan won’t offer what Basham does.

I realise everything. I’m surprised you needed to ask. I spotted Jake’s limitations at Championship level early doors. It’s what I do.

Stears a far better player. Tufty thinks so too. You do realise Jakie doesn’t figure in his plans don’t you? You Shakeys really will have to abandon your wishful thinking and face facts some time soon or life will become a series of disappointments.

When Stears is on the bench first game

Seeing the arguments from the Brentford fans saying good money for a player in the last season of the contract.

Why didn’t they do what we do and offer him a new deal in Jan and get the better players tied down to deals. Get even more money for him then. Poor business from them I believe.

Something I've always said. Clubs should all take note of Sheffield United's transfer strategies for maximum financial gain.

So who is going to be the in the back 3 come the first game?

Leonard/Basham - Egan/Stearman/Wright - JOC

My starting 11 (unlikely btw as more players will surely come in)

Hendo

Basham Egan JOC

Freeman Baldock

Coutts Fleck

Duffy

Mcgoldrick Clarke

Love Brentford, regularly sell their established championship players for market value,no dramas, just get on with the job and are always a very competative team.I think we could learn an awful lot from Brentford and their fans, they understand the realities of life,i wish we did........respect !!

I think they get above market value, which is even more worthy of respect. They don't sell until the ridiculous offers are made by desperate big spenders or premier league clubs. They maintain a low wage bill and secure their players on long, advantageous contracts. See Hogan, and the current valuation of Mepham and Watkins, who haven't even done that much at this level yet. A very well run club. If United could become a bigger Brentford or Peterborough, I'd be delighted. Promotion would be an inevitability.

He may have refused to sign? Just speculating. If so I'm suprised he wasn't sold with two years left.

I would be giving Wilder pelters if he put Baldock at left wing back.

Just had to post this.

Brilliant. So apart from being better than a central defender rated as our best by many of our fans, and one of the stand out performers in the division last season, this signing is a bit of a damp squib?

"All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"

Alan Nixon’s story from last week + our interest in Egan = rehashed story for clicks by the mirror in jack o Connell

Egan will divide opinion.

Not spectacular by any means, more Neil Collins than Harry Maguire.

Jesus, that statement is depressing.

Why? Unless we have an ownership willing to compete with the 39 million losses every three year cycle, it's inevitable.Even those clubs, if they are run properly, have to resell players at the right time or you end up like the pigs who have turned huge bids under Chansiri. It's only really the paruchute clubs that have carte blanche for a year or two. It's sound policy to buy players for low sums and sell them for big bucks until you have a promotion squad; if you've reinvested well.We should have a bigger financial punch than Brentford due to our size, so promotion should be more achievable.

I would like to see him given a chance in there for when Stevens has a wobble. Either that or get another LWB. Possibly even Baldock and Freeman switching RWB and LWB several times throughout a game. Just keeps opposition teams on their toes.

Either way we should be looking at 2 for each position and LWB is solely Stevens at the minute.

We need someone like Egan who has a prime responsibility to stop the ball going in our net.
When he has the ball he passes to teammates who are more suited to develop play.
We conceded last season as we were in need of a stopper
Step forward Egan

I know he's been a target for quite some time TB but I'm a little surprised CW didn't go for a CB with more pace and mobility than Egan. Being solid is one thing (and was missing on occasion last season leading to some soft goals being conceded) but there remains a risk of being undone by opposing strikers getting in behind the defence. I know he suffered a bad injury last season but I would have thought someone like Curtis Nelson would have been worth a go.

We do that if a> we think the player is worth keeping beyond his contract or b> if the player is happy to sign. Unfortunately b> is difficult because the players know there's bigger money outside of our club. In Egan's case, I don't believe that we have discussed a new deal so it is more likely to be option a>.
