It's OK holding all the cards legally but what use is a player that wants to be somewhere else?

If they're not fully focussed and committed to the here and now then you're better off without them.

There are thousands of players with similar ability but it's the ones with the strongest mindset that make it to the top.

Exactly, legally the club holds all the cards.

When a player wants to to leave, he holds them all, either:

a) He has to buy out his contract (which the buying club would do)
b) He's demoted to play with the kids, in which case they're losing value in their asset
c) They sell him

No player who wants to leave (winston bogarde aside), has ever been forced to stay.
 
If we sell players like Fleck and JOC then I'm not getting a season ticket for this season. Gonna play football Saturday afternoons instead. We start ripping the spine of the team apart then it's only going to end up one way. Can't see us finding adequate replacements for them players who are able to come straight in and do the job, unless we spend big, which isn't going to happen.

When does it stop?

If, say, JOC, Fleck, Clark, Duffy and Sharp are all the subject of interest, and they all want to be somewhere else, do we let them all go?

That's an unrealistic scenario but I'm a great believer in a fair wage structure and a sustainable business model so the short answer would be yes.

Having said that I think Fleck and JOC are the only ones currently at risk, and that's a marginal risk.

Wilder knows the market, knows what other clubs pay, and it is his job to manage his resources accordingly.

I don't think he will be short changing our players but silly offers from other clubs can relate to wages as well as transfer fees.

Tell you what. If we sell JOC and Fleck, then we might well have no choice in the matter if the players and agents are hell bent on a move.

If you don’t want to get a season ticket based on a couple of players sales, then nobody is stopping you, and I don’t think the more sensible and pragmatic Blades will be fussed.

Just make sure you shut the door on your way out

Bottom line is I'd rather use my time for myself, not got long left in the game at my age so would rather play Saturday's and achieve something personally. United will always be there.

I somewhat agree. But in a way, that post is far more negative than those that may appear to you to be moaning. Essentially the gist of your post is that we should shut up and accept our fate as a non-successful football outfit? If that's not your point then I apologise, but then it would only be fair that you propose a solution.

No need to apologise, that’s pretty much what I’m saying. I’m not going to pretend there’s a solution because there isn’t, other than appoint a good manager and let him get on with it.

In real life, it makes no difference whether one accepts our situation or not, there’s nothing we can do to change it, other than collectively agree to put more money through the turnstiles to add to our income, and even that would have a limited impact.
If there’s a potential owner out there who’s prepared to put up around £100m to get us into the PL they should make themselves known to us, so we can get behind them and protest until Kev and Princey sell up and fuck off.
