Outgoing? O’Connell to Brighton

Ok. We just accept the fact that we have mediocre owners that will inevitably sell our best players, after all it’s the blades way. We’ll be reyt in a few years. It’s never ended badly before. I admire your ambition sir.

And if it's not true you and others have got lathered up for nothing.

Previous mistakes, of which we are all aware - after all they're revisited daily on here - mean we've been left behind. Until we get billionaire owners, and there's still no guarantee then, that's where we will stay maybe with the odd season or two in the PL, or with a bit of good fortune and keeping Wilder could be in a similar position to Burnley for example.

12 million and McCabe would drive him there personally - that's my guess anyway. A lad who cost us 300,000 and then sell on for 10m plus would definitely be accepted - in my view. We won't get that sort of bid though I don't think.

We can't replace O'Connell with a like for like - he's too good and he's a ball playing/carrying centre half. But we could sign a decent centre half for a million or so that would do a solid job for us. i think O'Connell represents much more than simply a footballer. He's a crowd favourute and a huge part of two season's ago success. I don't think United fans have connected with a player as much as Coutts, Fleck and O'Connell for many years even more so than Harry Maguire, Jamie Murphy, Billy Sharp and Brooks.

Agree with most of that again. All sensible points but to me it boils down to what do we want as a football club....

Replacing a class player with one who can do a solid job is not gonna give us a realistic chance to get promoted.

Surely we should be aiming / striving to improve rather admitting defeat and stagnating - what’s point otherwise? We want more than merely existing as a football club surely?

Fuck me! No wonder the Prince decided it was time to upgrade his quid.
A nifty 10 million buy out and 4 weeks later he'd be swimming in gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.

100% agree with that and Premier League clubs have plenty of money. Make them cough up.

If it’s a case of much higher wages being offered then match it and keep him here. We just sold Brooks for £12m, use some of that.

Everyone then wants a rise and the player budget shrinks?

Exactly.

Do you really think Wilder is admitting defeat and willing to stagnate? Do you think he'd still be here if that's what he thought the board wanted?

If he walked, we'd have our answer. Let's wait and see.

Sadly our owners are paupers in Championship terms.

The problem is you'll always get a divided fanbase between those who don't want to risk an outsider, and would rather we continue as also rans under KM, and those who want to see the boat pushed out by whoever is able to.

Personally I'm stuck in the middle as I would like to see our club get close to realising it's potential at some point before it's 100 years since we last won a major trophy.

Leonard can deputise surely.

Nope he's on his way to Southend for £150k we wanted more but when a players head is turned.
We also cannot stand in a players way when the big clubs come calling.

But don't worry blades I've heard we are about to swoop for Ex Wednesday legend
Glen Loovens to replace O'Connell.

Brentford want 10 million plus for the relatively untested Chris Mepham (21 appearancess). They have already rejected a 10 million pound bid from Bournemouth:http://www.skysports.com/football/n...urnemouth-bid-10m-for-brentfords-chris-mepham
We'd be giving him away at that price, and stand very little chance of replacing him.A left football centre half, in his early to mid 20s who is good on the ball and in the air, and reads the game well. Rocking horse shit.

On another note, I think Blades fans need to understand where we are in the football food chain. There are clubs in our league (without parachute payments) whose owners are willing to put in 39 million of personal funds over every three year cycle.Sometimes they spunk it all in one year (Forest anyone?). There are also clubs with parachute payments willing to do this, which make the divide even bigger. Kevin McCabe publically admitted that we need an ownership model and personal that will allow us to come closer to doing this (last season at the University bash).Until then, I would suggest the Blades best chance of being competitive is to become a bigger Brentford. By that, I mean selling players at the right time; for the right money; then and reinvesting in the next line of potentially high value players that will come from the academy, and external conveyer belt, and make us big money. It is still possible to be successful employing this method; particularly if a club is patient with its manager.

My Concerns

Selling players at the right time?

A club who has a player on a long contract, with no release clause, has to be prepared to reject offers for young players if you think the value could exponentially grow within a year or two. Kyle Walker is the obvious example. Brooks may well prove to be the next.It is the football staffs responsibility to determine this, using their expertise. If the club's valuation is a long way from the buying club's, or you feel a player has the potential to drastically increase in value in the near future, you have to be prepared to say no and hold the player to their contract.

Selling for the right money
What is the right money for your best assets? I'd suggest the cost of replacing them with like for like replacements, and a big financial stipend because you don't let your best assets go just for what they're worth. If clubs aren't prepared to pay over the odds for your best assets, you keep them.

Reinvestment
The academy is holding up well post EPPP, and is still butressing our budget with player sales.I have concerns about the depth and breadth of our scouting system. Similar concerns have been expressed by the Prince. Wilder's track record whilst not perfect, is extremely good.

I can’t even begin to understand the logic if we even think twice about selling our best centre half, whos a proven championship player at 23, for half his worth. When he’s tied down to a new contract.

This would leave me absolutely empty to be honest. And I’d completely regret renewing.

I must have been asleep I dreamt that we were looking to buy at least two central defenders and that the shutters were down

Do this United and regrettably after over seventy years of the same you WILL AT LAST have fucked me off Forbes Illey Cockerill TC Deano
Walker and the rest For fucks sake Board grow apair Board Fucking Bournemouth Brighton jumpedup twats

Aden Flint...goal scoring cb at his peak 28? £7m to smog monsters...think he'd just signed a new 3 year deal.
Yet Brentford want £10m for an untried cb?
Brighton allegedly offer 5-6m for O'Connell
None of it makes much sense to me

Just my opinion, but I think whilst Flint is excellent at this level and would slot seamlessly at the centre of our back three, he has technical limitations that would put premier league clubs off him. No idea on Mepham, but Brentford seem to almost always get big bucks. O'Connell, like Maguire, could play at any level.Left footed, good on the ball, reads the game well, solid in the air, left footed, pretty quick...

Before anybody calls Nixon out for been full of shit, I heard the exact same thing earlier today from somebody close to the club, he has been bang on the money previously. I just shook my head when he told me.

Anyway, I'm just off to listen to some music to calm down from this news...

“Hey siri, play History Repeating by the propellerheads”

If and it is a big if any one else is bartered it puts Chris Wilder in a very unfavourable light He has publicly stated that the shutters are down No one else going apart from those that we know about or words to that effect IMO IF Jack is sold, then the next man through the revolving door could be Chris Wilder. And then mr Prince and Mr sell em all McCabe you can put the pittance received in yer pipes and smoke it It will confirm what some already believe that really you don’t give a flying fuck about OUR TEAM

I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over fucking Alan Nixon gossip.

However if for some warped reason we did sell JOC for £5 million to the PL, I'd be seriously apoplectic after being quite chilled over the Brooks deal.

Good call re. Nixon. We're in the dog days of summer, any journalists of note (i.e. not Nixon) will be reporting on the WC and ubsustantiated rumours is all they've got. Remember Wilder was going to Sunderland? Not a shred of evidence, but enough to cause panic stations among many on here. Agents are a curse on football, but journos trying to undermine a club with wild gossip aren't much better.

Unless it's designed to cheer up that shower at S6 who will be flogging their better players. If anybody wants them.

Does anyone fancy having a pre-season Blades get together. We could all meet at bdtbl go for walk, stop off at a few pubs and lynch Alan Nixon...

Except we're as likely to say no as an Essex Girl in Benidorm.

It's quite simple really, Nixon likes to tweet...a lot....he's a proper, "look at me" type of bloke....as far as JOC and/or Fleck going are concerned he's either made it up, (by putting 2 and 2 together, looking at the type of players other clubs are after and have missed out on) or he's heard a whisper that there could be something happening.

No doubt Nixon does get snippets although I don't think he's anywhere near ITK as he would like to think!

The easy answer to stopping this happening again is to buy players nobody else is bothered about, lot less stressful in the long run, we might go down but at least it stops all this bollocks, ruining my summer,it was all going so well, Wilder stays, new budget, only recruiting 4- quality additions, even England are doing ok,and then there's the weather, lets hope it all ends well,I dread to think what the s6 twats are making of it.

While I get your point Brighton put the phone down ring jocs agent and say.

“Dem Blades have said no you told us they always say yes”

Agent: don’t worry if you can do 20k pw and give me 500k agent fee I’ll get jock to put in a transfer request.

It all depends on if he wants to go. Whether or not his agent bends his ear that way thinking of the £££. Or if the player does genuinely think he's got a chance of playing premier league football. If any or both of those things are true, get the best amount you can and move on/reinvest. CW has always said if a player isn't happy/ wants to leave he will because there's no point keeping them. I would be looking for at least double the 5-6m being quoted though.
