Wilder on the boardroom struggle

Just goes to prove what we all knew.

Success comes in spite of McCabe. Not because of him.
Did Wilder arrive at the Lane because of him or in spite of him?
He needs to sort the situation fast but let’s realise that despite his obvious mistakes he is responsible for some good things for the club. Surely you can see that?

Accept mediocrity? Link to whoever said it?

It's the just the comparative perception of our season between fans on this forum. Some on here see avoiding relegation, finishing mid table & above our rivals as constituting a 'good season' and some see being happy with slipping from 1st to 11th, with boardroom shenanigans, coupled with less than awe inspiring signings as 'mediocrity'. It's a curate's egg of a season, the nuance of opinion is in the direction of travel.

Yes. The point however is that no one has used the actual phrase to suggest that's what we should do. Some find it attractive to use as a stick to beat other fans with, who don't agree with constant negativity. It's a falsehood.

Without investment this team will struggle next year, similar to Barnsley, if we do drop back again I doubt all of the 20,000 who went with us last time will stick around for another stint in league 1.

I've seen the the Dingles used as an example of how we might struggle and I am not convinced they are a fair comparison mate tbh.

What people seem to forget is that they sold their crown jewels in Hourihaine, Winnal and Mawson. Now if we were to proceed into the summer and flog JOC, Fleck and Brooks then maybe we could follow their path but that's still a big IF. As things stand this team could go again and still hold its own, in my opinion.

I want to hear from Abdullah. I want to know why he wants full control, I want to know what his plans and ideas are and I want to know what the situation with McCabe is from HIS side.

Because as it stands, we’re looking at 3 options:
1) McCabe takes back full control and we go back to a tight budget while Kev tries to drum up investment (but not actually selling up) from all corners of the world. So basically back to pre-Prince days, albeit at a higher level (for now).
2) Abdullah takes full control and we have absolutely no idea what he wants, intends and can afford.
3) This dual owner stand-off continues and the club is in limbo with both refusing to fund something they may not own in the near future.

We know option 1 because we’ve already been through it. Option 3 is a terrifying thought. So please Princey- please speak to us and make option 2 a positive prospect.

The pigs on the Sheffield Forum football section are cock-a-hoop this evening for some reason. Can someone join and/or give me their log in info so I can get banned again? The fact that those sorry fuckers are getting some joy out of this really pisses me off.

The Prince's lack of words are quite damning. He owns 50% of the club yet is saying nothing at all. What are his intentions? What does he want? If he wants to take over he need to get the Blades fans trust and show them what he can do. He is saying nothing. I think he needs calling out big time for that. The shareholders to me should be demanding some kind of statement from him or his people - at leeast McCabe has said something. If it is in the hands of laywers and he cannot say much - then say that. He needs to give us something, We have heard nothing from him for about a year now. He is treating us like fools. Say what you wannt about Chansiri and that mob but at least he is there, involved and trying things (not all coming off). The lack of action, words, presence is damning I am afraid from our international owner.

Sounds to me like give me money I’ll stay.

He says he wants to continue here at the lane but needs reassurances over things like budget and ASAP.

Wilder stock is high if we offer him no budget he would be better off jumping ship on a purely professional point of a view.

Kind of agree. If he stays and we struggle next season - say bottom half - nobody is going to be interested in him at all. The League One title and start will mean sod all to Prem clubs. He may get another Champ job but that would be about it. So a tough call for him.

As far as I am aware, the last United game he attended in person was the Malaga friendly. Since then he has had 'representatives' attend on his behalf.

Maybe this is why we have only sold 12000 season tickets its the uncertainty that is holding us back.

It is a huge drop off from 18,000 ST holders - a third have not renewed so far. Sure, we may sell a thousand or so more but not sure it will be much more now. I expected us to continue with 26,000+ crowds next season but will struggle for 20,000 on current sales. Is it the uncertainty at the top, price increases for many or just the novelty of success / Championship has worn off?

.....or live on Facebook?

Very clever from CW made it clear he wants to stay but that the ambitions of the club have to meet those of himself and his management team at a time when his stock is as high as it ever has been aside from the Fulham manager he has the highest stock of any Championship manager, clearly isn’t content to just survive in the Championship but see the club become a Premier league side long term, I fear we may have seen the last home game at the Lane with Chris at the helm.

It needed saying, & I'm still saying it
I'm not a fan of ultimatums

I have run a business and if anyone ever gave me an ultimatum there was only going to be one winner - me!!

I can't quite understand this "God like" worship of Chris Wilder, yes he has done great things but he is also culpable (as well as the players) for the way the team has performed in the second half of the season, Nigel Clough took a lot of stick for the way he set his teams up, that was his way of dealing with "no money" situation, it wasn't pretty and arguable had more success than CW even if he couldn't get us out League one (Burton won today and just maybe could keep them in the division which would be a great achievement - and you don't hear him moaning about having no money!!), I would be saying to CW "if you want to go then go but be warned there are a lot worse run clubs than this one"

I sincerely hope he stays but he needs to learn a bit of diplomacy - and keep his gob shut! sorting out "boardroom issues" is never going to be easy in any business but you get your head down and get on with the job - or leave.

It's been a great season I hope it doesn't get spoilt.

I wouldn't be too sure. As much as I rate CW, there are only a small handful* of clubs that he could go to and who would want him & it represent a step up. Unless he properly throws a strop & walks out without a job to go to, we'll need to wait until promotions & relegation's have been decided before we start to panic. I think that pool is Southampton, WBA, Stoke, Huddersfield, Boro, as an outside bet Villa and as a really outside bet Sunderland.

*Edit: Handful & a half. ;)

Clough had a far bigger budget than Chris Wilder and achieved much less. Our team has over achieved in the second half of the season after massively overachieving in the first.Wilder is entitled to his view and is putting his own remuneration in jeopardy for -what he perceives - to be the good of the club.

Lest we forget we had some wonderful days with NC
How do you know NC had a bigger budget than CW, it's not public knowledge.
I'll say again "I think CW is a great fit for United and i hope he stays" I just think he is playing a dangerous game.

Did make me worry when I heard his interview but is it just a dig at the boardroom to get themselves sorted. Must admit rather have a manager that says it as it is. Just hope his so called mate Wit keeps out of it

hi kev.. glad you could join us finally

The timing of this is very unfortunate because if there's one club CW would move to from us it's Southampton and whether they get relegated or not I think they will be looking for a.new manager in the summer !
