Shocked to see BU go with no warning, and a shame really although I'd all-but given up posting there years ago. I know they had to look at every post for legal etc reasons which must have taken a long time - but hardly a major expense in the overall scheme of running a football club!

I guess may mean more work for Foxy and Linz here if it does get a mass influx of sometimes argumentative new members?!

And should definitely try and recruit Deadbat for a match review section. ;)

It does seem strange for it to close down without warning!
Anyway it was well past needing a change and its demise helped me find this site.

Maybe it was shut down because PH from last Friday's Q&A threatened to sue the Club after being referred to as PH :D

Hi everyone. Another BU refugee here. Looking forward to using this site though. Now, can anyone tell me how I post under a different alias if I want to have a pop at someone? ;-)

I remember seeing it. I am also 99% sure it was in response to trueblade, not Lennard....

Yes, I think you are right kozzy. Whatever happened to True? Has he been washed up on here does anyone know..?

Bert spent 10 years on that site and it's predecessors, however he hardly bothered of late as the enjoyment and humour had gone. That was largely due the the likes of Len and co who filled the forum with endless waffle about nothing at all and the tedious, repetitive whinging.

The censorship was pathetic, way over the top, but the site did provide the main source of information for many supporters at times.

Bert was banned 3 or 4 times over the years for trivial misdomeaners the most memorable one being the week D'Jaffo scored the winner at Hillsborough. Bert had explained to a Wednesdayite interloper what he though of him and his football club.

BU was probably ready to be put out of it's misery but the way it was done is nothing short of a disgrace both to the club and Windmill. The person responsible for it's sudden closure really does need a kick in the bollocks.

Hello folks :-)

Just as shocked as everyone that BU is no longer there, it was always the first port of call for me when turning on the PC, even though I had been banned since about 2003 ;-)

Anyway, anyone fancy a fish-finger sandwich?

Right that's it - there's no option but to come and lurk on here instead.

How long will it be before I can resume the comfort derived from:
  • Abject pessimism from Len
  • Match reports from Deadbat
  • Lengthy debates, legal counsel and occasional revelations from Darren
  • Intelligent asides and double entendres from Trig
  • 3rd person missives from Bert

There - I've posted now. Does that mean I can see the pictures???

Does that mean I can see the pictures???

As soon as the change in permissions script kicks in.

A newly registered user has lower permissions for a short time, until it's verified that:

a) They are a real member
b) They aren't here for the wrong reasons (mainly spam)

After your very first post, the script will kick in after a small time delay and you'll get everything a standard registered user gets access to :)

PS - Welcome! :)

Gotta add my welcome to all making their first appearance on this thread. I also have to take the blame for the transcript being made available... why this would reflect badly on BU and cause it to be shut down though, I have no idea. We did have a couple of links on there which Webbo removed and Webbo apparently passed on his regards to Foxy earlier for actually sitting there and typing it up.

It's a mystery... but an ill-timed one the day before the new season.

Your transcript was much appreciated by all Linz.

Maybe it had nothing to do with the club, maybe Windmill suddenly decided that, for whatever reason, they couldn't run the site anymore? Can't you get webbo's take on this if you're in contact with him..? I'm just curious as to the reason behind it, that's all.

I'm already liking it much better on here. My only regret is that I didn't come over sooner.

He says he did it off his own back, his decision. He started the site and now he's decided to close the site, in the click of a button. He says nobody pushed him or told him, it's purely his own decision. That's about it really

Foxy had a chat with him on the IRC channel and he basically said that he wasn't going to say anything other than the party line and that it was down to "resources".

Well, this is our new home. Just taken me coat off and looking for a hanger. Looks a nice site and maybe being rehoused won't be so bad after all :)

Aye, I had that too. He said he was never alone (as I suggested if it took too much time, as he said, then he should get helpers, and I said that many would volunteer, so wouldn't have to be paid resources)

He wasn't alone, he always made sure he banned me and didn't let the helpers do the task though :D

Been reading BU for many years but was never a member so its nice to find this forum where i can join in abit, UTB!

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this site but just thought I'd make everyone aware that I am absolutely terrible in arguments, until it hits a Sheffield United point, and then I can go like the clappers (with regards to expressing opinions of course!)

Lynz, I would personally like to thankyou for the transcript, it made a fascinating read for someone that couldnt get to see Mr McCabe. And with that, I look forward to getting to know you all. And having some. Heated, shall we say, discussions!

Ps you alll seem a lot friendlier than every other message board, how just seem to have a few main members that talk a lot of rubbish and argue with every point made!

I just had a lengthy chat with webbo in sufcchat and he insists it was his decision to shut the site down as it was too much work, he works independently of SUFC and owns a large number of forums etc.

He says sufc approached him a number of years ago about making his forum the official forum for sufc.

So it should be possible to ask sufc to just make another forum (this one) the official forum.

That's assuming what webbo says is true. If the club don't allow another forum to be made official on the OS then we can assume it was the clubs decision to shut down BU ;)

Blavdes (member of BU for maybe 6years or more )

Anyone, enough of this BU talk... let's talk about something far more pressing.. the working class's struggle in Maggie's Britain circa 1984 :)

You're lucky, all I got when i spoke to him was sarcasm!!

I've just joined today as well as a lot of you and would like to let you (especially the exiled blades) know that #sufc chat is still up and running if you want to join on match days. ;)
